LJ's Piano Tuning & Repair

About us

LJ's Piano Tuning is a small business (sole proprietorship) that was started by Laura Jo Trexler in January 2008 in Denver, CO. Since beginning almost 7 years ago, her business has grown exponentially, gaining more than 250 regular clients. Aside from private tunings, she has tuned for numerous churches, schools, universities and theaters, which include Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Brandeis University, University of Colorado (Denver) the Arvada Center, Aurora Fox Theater, Creede Repertory Theater, Town Hall Arts Center and Onofrio Piano Company to name a few. In 2007, Laura Jo took up a year long apprenticeship under a local Denver tuner of 30 yrs. Being an accomplished pianist and avid piano lover, the art of tuning came naturally. She tunes using pitch forks, rather than digital tuners. In 2009, the woman with whom she apprenticed under handed down her client list, and Laura Jo tuned full time until she was accepted into the MFA Acting program at Brandeis University in Boston, where she began studies in 2011. After graduating with her MFA in May '14, Laura Jo made the decision to move her business to NYC and looks to build up her New York/Boston clientele, so she can tune full-time throughout the year. She charges $150 for a standard tuning, $225 for a pitch raise, and $75 per hour for repair labor.

I can't say enough positive things about LJ. She is ethical, efficient and provides quality service and results. LJ also tuned my piano and she spent extra time and care to complete the job where others might have left without completing the job as thoroughly as she did. Thank you LJ!

My neighber donated her piano to me. It is a very old Chickering upright piano that hadn't been used or tuned for years. Laura Jo came within the same week that I called. She arrived on time and was very professional from beginning to end. She explained two options for me and she was not pushy about her opinion. Rather, after I asked some quesitons she gently shared the pros/cons to the two options and in the end, I agreed with her recommendation. She is a focused and patient worker. We will definiely use her in the future.

My antique Broadwood is finicky and hard to tune. After Laura Jo was done it sounded like a new instrument!
