John Thurmond was able to come only a few days after I called him. He was prompt and right on time from when he called to confirm the appointment that morning. He spent five hours at our home, thoroughly inspecting everything and explaining in details everything he found. I was able to accompany him everywhere to watch him as he worked. It was a bitterly cold and snowy day, so he wasn't able to get a complete roof evaluation, but he is coming back at the end of the week to finish that part, since the weather will be better. When he discovered some items or areas of concern in our home, John explained in detail what it all meant, and whether this was something that could be a possible "deal breaker" for a potential buyer of our home, and what things might be of concern to an inspector hired by a buyer of our home. He also explained all our options of what we could do in each case, advising us on repairs/checks we should have done before our house goes on the market, and what things we should just leave "as is," since they are issues for the next homeowner to decide upon. All this was very helpful, as a pre-listing home inspection helps a seller to avoid any surprises at the end of a sale that they wouldn't have known about previously, as well as giving potential home buyers confidence that the home is well-maintained and that certain areas of concern have been corrected or dealt with before the sale. John stayed well beyond the "3 to 3 1/2 hours" time frame he'd told us about, taking photos of anything that was of concern, then submitting a detailed report with the photos to us via e-mail later that evening. Very convenient. He will be returning later this week to check the roof, and said he will re-check our stove at that time, since we have just had a safety issue repaired that he discovered during his inspection. He was friendly and yet professional, explaining many things about homes, the entire gamut of home inspection and that industry, and older homes, in particular, which will generally have "issues," just due to the age of the home. A helpful and enlightening experience and we're so glad we did this prior to putting our home on the market. Now we know what things need to be easily corrected by our handyman. John also advised us that we might forego one "cosmetic" improvement we were going to do to the home (new kitchen floor), as we would be able to use that money to complete 2 to 3 tasks on his recommended list of repairs with the money spent on new flooring--so money better spent elsewhere.
