First Choice Flooring

The entire process, from quote to installation, was professional and high-quality. Joe and his team are very good at what they do and it shows in the end result. Joe has been in the business a long time and, unlike some of the fly-by-night companies, has a strong body of knowledge and can offer a very large selection of product.

Far exceeded my expectations! It looks phenomenal! Joe and his team are top-notch professionals. Also, there is not a spec of dust in my house!

My salesman (Ray Meyers) was knowledgeable, professional, and not high pressured. I'm very happy with my carpet choice, First Choice Flooring, and my installers. The price was competitive compared to a highly advertised competitor and First Choice Flooring provides a lifetime installation warranty.

I called First Choice Flooring for an estimate on flooring for my basement. The salesperson brought mainly vinyl samples.  I was not pleased with  the samples offered because when I called to schedule the appointment I asked for a specific brand of vinyl and a second brand I also wanted to see, and he brought neither.   However, the salesman said he had been an installer for many years, had used this product in his home office, and assured me their vinyl would work just fine over my cement floor. Their estimate was comparable to another estimate  I had gotten, and because of their positive ratings on Angie's List, I chose First Choice.  However, when the subcontractors came (nearly 2 hours late) a week later, they refused to install the vinyl, saying my floor was too damaged because my home was over 50 years old, and I would not be happy at all with the results.  They said it would look like "ocean waves", and if I wanted vinyl I would have to completely tear out and repour my cement  floor.  At this point they had not removed any carpet.  I insisted they call First Choice and speak to them, which they did, and then they left, taking the finyl with them.  They were very apologetic, but explained that they did not want to do a job with which I would not be satisfied, and they felt very strongly that the vinyl would not be acceptable in my basement.  
The same sales rep from First Choice came that afternoon and brought carpet samples, since that was presented as the only possibility for replacing the damaged carpet in my basement. (The installers suggested that vinyl plank flooring might work, but at over $7000, it was nothing I could even consider.)  The sales rep assured me they would not charge me for the vinyl that was not installed (???!!!) and sold me carpet with a lifetime warranty, and included a lifetime installation warranty.  The carpet was installed just over a week later, the same day my company from Australia arrived to stay in my guest suite in the basement, which was quite inconvenient, but it got done.  The cost was just over $300 more for the carpet than for the vinyl, though had I selected a lower grade carpet (comparable to the vinyl choices I was offered) it would have been less expensive than the vinyl.  The entire experience was frustrating and stressful ( I explained my impending company time-frame in the very first phone call), but I am pleased with the quality of the carpet that I now have, and the installers did a good job.

I called for an estimate and left message.  Joe returned call within two hours and scheduled appt for in-home estimate.  He arrived promptly with sample books along.  My husband & I chose several colors of the carpeting that we thought might work.  Joe has a good eye for color and was helpful with his advice.  Joe ordered larger sizes of those colors and we received them in the mail about a week later.  Good thing or we would have chosen the wrong one based on the smaller sizes!  Joe thoroughly explained the installation process that they use and the workers that he employs (permanent employees, not temps or contract).  After our selection, the carpet was ordered. Installation was scheduled when it arrived.  The workers arrived on time, moved the remaining few pieces of the heavy furniture to our garage, and did the entire installation in 6-8 hrs. They were very courteous and professional the entire time.  Joe came back a week later to see the results for himself and verify that we were satisfied.  We are very happy with the choice and will definitely use them again.  The time from estimate to installation was about 3 1/2 weeks.

The only problem we ran into was that the installers did not plan to seal the joints in the padding with duct tape as Joe had confirmed in the installation explanation.  When I questioned the installers, they had not planned to do this and did not have any tape with them.  We were able to provide it and they were happy to do it the way we understood it was to be done.  However, had we not been present, it would have not been done that way but this would not prevent us from using them in the future.

They were very responsive and always on time for a job that took a while. I couldn't have asked for a better company.

They did a great job. They were very friendly and helpful. They gave great options. They went out of their way to make things go smoothly and it was a very pleasant experience.

Overall the experience was very good. The owner was on time for the estimate, had the materials when he said he would, and returned calls and messages very quickly. The installer did a good job on the install but lacked a little on the professional side. When he walked in to the empty apartment to start the job he right off the bat turned up the heat and turned on his radio very loud. It was hard to talk to him with it so loud but HE seemed not to mind as he must have been use to it. Although the apartment was empty, if other tenants had been home at the time, they would of had a valid noise complaint.

I got estimates from several carpet companies. Joe at First Choice was the only one who showed up to give me an estimate at the time he said he would. He also had the least expensive bid that included more services (moving furniture along with the tear out, removal, and installation of new carpet). Joe got the carpet ordered within a day after I told him which type/color my company had chosen. The install date was set for about a week after carpet was ordered. The crew showed up right on time on the first day of install and immediately began moving furniture out and ripping up the old carpet. There was some confusion about the order in which the carpet needed to go down in different areas of the office, but the crew was very cooperative and adjusted how they laid the carpet to fit our needs. Joe, the owner, stopped by to check on the progress about halfway throught the 1st day. The crew showed up a couple of hours later than planned on the second day, but they were still able to finish laying the carpet by that evening. There were a few areas where the paint got scraped up when the old baseboard was being removed. The foremant of the crew said that they would buy some matching paint and take care of the touch-up for us. Also, they ran a little short on baseboard, so are planning to come back to install the areas that weren't covered once the new baseboard comes in; more had to be ordered since they don't keep extra on hand. I am confident that they will return to finish and make all repairs as soon as they have the supplies, and will update this report if that is not the case.

Also resolved an installation problem with a doorway slider. Alerted to the need for water valve inspection prior to installation of flooring. I needed to have the Denver home painted and the flooring replaced long distance--I am in California. Joe went to his local Home Depot the see the examples I chose at my CA Home Depot, then matched with his product. He also suggested a carpet that would be a better choice for wheelchair/walker movement since this is in a retirement home. He worked with the painters to complete the job efficiently and ensure that color choices were good.

ALTHOUGH WE WAITED FOR OUR INSTALLATION FOR A FEW WEEKS, THE WORK WAS WORTH THE WAIT. OUR INSTALLER WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND THE WORK PERFORMED WAS VERY TOP NOTCH. YOU WONT FIND A BETTER JOB!
