Sewer line
replaced in 2009 is now bellied, 50+ feet. Plumber unwilling to fix, repair or
replace.
In March 2009,
I began the process of purchasing my home.
During that process, I had the sewer line cleaned and camera
inspected. The clay sewer line did not
pass inspection second to a large "belly"/low level area in the
backyard and was collecting debris, etc.
Based on that advice and after having water backing into my home, I
elected to have the sewer line replaced in June 2009. "Plumber" came highly recommended
and began replacing the old sewer line from the edge of my back patio to the
edge of the alley. The
"plumber's" estimate/cost for the job was $4000.00 which was paid by
check and cashed. Prior to job, asked
plumber to file permit with the city.
At the end
of March 2011, I began to have water backing into my home. At first it was when the upstairs shower was
being used, then became more severe when the washing machine and other types of
plumbing were being used. After having to wet vac my laundry room, there was a
sandy-type substance around the floor drain and several dime-size rocks that
came out of the drain. Based on that,
Aurora Water was called. Aurora Water
confirmed that all their pipes were in working order and to call a
plumber. I called my "plumber"
and he stated I should get someone who could clean the line. I told him I would also have it camera
inspected. "Plumber" told me
to call him back after I found out any new info. I called a completely different plumber who
did not know my home, had them clean the line and perform a camera
inspection. Based on this inspection, I
was told there was little to nothing that was clogging the pipe and based on
the camera inspection, my "new" PVC sewer line was
"bellied"/had a low level of over 50+ feet, or approximately from the
edge of my patio all the way to the edge of the alley. Camera inspection/dvd shows excess water in
sewer pipe and is not draining appropriately where my "new" sewer
line meets the city sewer line, at the edge of the alley.
When I
called the "plumber" to report my findings, he stated there was not
appropriate fall at the edge of my house and that he told me that in the
beginning. He said to resolve the issue
I would have to have my sewer line cleaned once a year and turn my washing
machine on and let it run to help create enough pressure to free the line. I
told the "plumber" that when he was hired for the job, it was to
correct any issues with the "new" sewer line from the edge of the
patio to the edge of the alley.
"Plumber" began to get upset, said I was not listening, stated
I did not even know why I had my sewer line replaced." "Plumber"
then stated he was standing by his work and that there was nothing else he
could or would do."
"Plumber" then stated he had to go and hung up.
After
researching this project from the beginning, and though they are not allowed to
give legal advice, I sought out the office where the permit had been
filed. After speaking with two
inspectors, the city permit office and the Aurora Water office, all have stated
that it sounds as if the "plumber" did not backfill and bed the
"new" sewer line properly. All stated that a "new" sewer
line should not be having these kinds of difficulties after only 1 1/2-2 years
old.
In summary,
I feel I have spent $4000.00 for an inferior sewer line replacement. My "new" sewer line is doing
exactly what my old one was doing. I
paid the "plumber" to fix/resolve the issue and now I have exactly
what I did before, the only difference is that it is PVC pipe.

Denny's was prompt and professional, worked very efficiently and their pricing was very reasonable. While there, I asked questions about several other plumbing related issues I was having and they took the time to walk through my concerns and suggest a resolution - even telling me what they believed I might be able to do myself and thus save the cost. I had them back a second time the following week to replace a faucet in a basement utility sink. They called two hours prior to their scheduled arrival to tell me an emergency had come up and they would be a bit later to arrive if that worked for me. On both occasions, when the work was completed, they reviewed with me prior to collecting payment to make sure I was satisfied. I find Denny's to be very honest and dependable.
