We went over the requirements 3 times before we recived a bid. At the time of signing he wanted 50% up front. We had purchased all of the tile and doors ourselves, and he had not ordered the trim pieces. So he had no out of pocket expenses. We went with 20% up front and 30% fiirst day. Stupid mistake on our part. He showed up on the starting day and got his other 30%. Then he ordered trim materials. He sent us a bill for them "due upon receipt", and we gave him 50% up front. I said I'll pay you the day the materials arrive. Then I said I would make it out to the supplier directly. Tony's wife and account said no way and "We are not a bank." So we paid them. Tony's daughter in law was subcontracted for the trim work, ok fine. The day that the guys who do the trim work show up it was not even her people she subbed it out again. So 2 sub's. The people that did the trim were called Falcon Trim ( they did a great job). After these issues. I started getting bills for things like 1.5 hours for taking cabinets out of the pod ( which was in our front yard). Going to get grout 1 hour. We never were told that we were going to be charged these items, nor did we authorize it ( in your agreement state taht all changes must b e authorized in writting with the associated charges itemized). All of the tile was on site, and all of the grout was brought in, but he ran out of grout, and wanted to charge for going to get it. Then my wife received a nasty email from Tony's wife, Jan, profanity and all about how we were not living up to our end of the deal.( I still have acopy of it) Remember we gave them 50% up front,paid for all materials up front, and are the customer. They then said they were over 90% done and wanted more money. I said no you're not, and they would not continue to work until I paid them. They were no where near 90% done. In fact today 11/30/09 they still are not done ( we are missing base trim on our kitchen and master bath cabinets). All of their bills were payable upon reciept. Even though they never really finished we paid them and had them sign a lein release that they were paid in full. They did sign a lein release that they were paid in full, and I negotiated most of the additional charges away. We then had a problem with our tile in our dog room floor. It was cracking. So we called Tony and asked him to come fix it. " I do not warranty work that I was not paid in full for, " $55,000.00 for six weeks labor,and a signed lein waiver that states he was paid in full. I had to hire another tile person, and he showed me that Tony did not put compound across the entire base of the tile he just dab bed it in 4 spots. So that left gaps that cracked the tile. I hope it is no that way in the entire house.
