Like a lot of companies, sales force was good and seemingly knowledgeable. Interest and attention certainly flagged upon receipt of our down payment. The company was short on manpower, short on conveyors and dump trucks and short on attention to our project. Excuses abound but 9-1/2 months over four seasons is a bit much to complete a 900 sq ft basement conversion. The work effort is punishing, without a doubt - hand digging and hand held jack hammers to loosen the dirt with the excavated material then removed with five gallon buckets carried over to a conveyor into the dump truck. It is a very manpower intensive effort but there were plenty of times when there would be one or two workers over at our place. The management of the labor force, to the extent it occurred, was sporadic. We were very involved in following development of this project, asking questions, etc. to make sure we were getting quality product for our money. Too bad they took a shortcut by not extending the continuous vapor barrier over the entirety of the outside of the new concrete walls. The Sept 2013 rains came and, lo and behold, we had water come into our new (and fortunately, at that time, unfinished) basement. I had to hire a drainage engineer to do some independent analysis in order to compel Crawlspaces 2 Basements to address the flaws in their work product. The subsequent framing effort was about average, at best. The contract says and quot;Through many years of experience, we have developed a highly efficient technique to form and pour the footings, pads, piers, walls and slab for your new basement.and quot; That's questionable. And from my experience, it appears this contractor is not overly concerned with its reputation and doing whatever it can to maintain it.

I bought a house with undisclosed termite damage that my home inspector, realtor and structural engineer missed. The damage involved the entire support beam and posts, and even though I knew I would be repairing some structural elements at one point or another in my 100+ year old house, I completely missed this monster in the basement. I had a parade of contractors touring my home as soon as I learned the severity of the situation, and for four long months I wasted my time with contractors who would come have a look, say they would give me an estimate in a couple days, and then disappear. The few bids I did get were either beyond my means or felt dubious, and I was running out of contractors! I'm sure any home owner, especially a new one, would understand that I found this situation disheartening. Luckily at an intersection I was waiting behind a white van with this companies decal. Figured if anyone knew how to replace the main support structure of an old house it would be a company like this, so I decided to attempt one more bid. My call was picked up by Jason and he was so refreshing to talk to! He immediately gave me information without me having to dig, beg or trick it out of him. He OFFERED up ball park figures, something every previous contractor REFUSED to do. This may not sound like much but it is incredibly stressful not to know if something starts at $500 or $50,000. It was nice to be treated like a reasonable person. Jason came out a few days later, discussed the realities of a project like mine, and I had a bid from him a week later. My experience with him was so positive compared to all the previous contractors that I wanted to give him the job, even if his bid was significantly more. And it wasn't. The work was completed quickly, final cost as expected and with minimal intrusion on my life (a different contractor had said I'd have to move out during the process). My structural engineer was happy with the work they did, I wasn't financially hobbled and I now have peace of mind... at least when it comes to my homes structure. I don't know if I had a string of bad luck at the beginning or a bit of good luck at the end, but Crawlspaces 2 Basements is a benefit to the industry.
