Made an appointment at 10:00 AM with the sales guy at my home. No one showed up. Called the office at 10:30 AM - found out there was a and quot;scheduling mistakeand quot; and we were and quot;actuallyand quot; scheduled for 11:00. Waited until 11:15. Called the office three times - got no response. Finally got a return call at 11:30 telling me that he was and quot;stuck in trafficand quot; - on a holiday Monday - and trying to reschedule me for later in the week. So the time I had to take off from work - wasted. And I can check a traffic report in seconds - so please don't lie to me. And there's no way I'm letting a company that can't show up on time for the sales visit do major structural renovations to my home. So lesson learned.
Description of Work: Nothing. Didn't show up.

Like a lot of companies, sales force was good and seemingly knowledgeable. Interest and attention certainly flagged upon receipt of our down payment. The company was short on manpower, short on conveyors and dump trucks and short on attention to our project. Excuses abound but 9-1/2 months over four seasons is a bit much to complete a 900 sq ft basement conversion. The work effort is punishing, without a doubt - hand digging and hand held jack hammers to loosen the dirt with the excavated material then removed with five gallon buckets carried over to a conveyor into the dump truck. It is a very manpower intensive effort but there were plenty of times when there would be one or two workers over at our place. The management of the labor force, to the extent it occurred, was sporadic. We were very involved in following development of this project, asking questions, etc. to make sure we were getting quality product for our money. Too bad they took a shortcut by not extending the continuous vapor barrier over the entirety of the outside of the new concrete walls. The Sept 2013 rains came and, lo and behold, we had water come into our new (and fortunately, at that time, unfinished) basement. I had to hire a drainage engineer to do some independent analysis in order to compel Crawlspaces 2 Basements to address the flaws in their work product. The subsequent framing effort was about average, at best. The contract says and quot;Through many years of experience, we have developed a highly efficient technique to form and pour the footings, pads, piers, walls and slab for your new basement.and quot; That's questionable. And from my experience, it appears this contractor is not overly concerned with its reputation and doing whatever it can to maintain it.
Description of Work: Excavate and haul away 250 CY dirt and concrete while deepening and expanding a 6' high crawlspace. New reinforced concrete walls, concrete floor over perimeter drainage system, various other structural support and rough framing.

I finally got tired of waiting and called them back. They told me that the brick mason wasn't available until spring. This was confusing because I didn't need brick work, but needed concrete. They were very nice and seemed to know what they were talking about, but I don't think that they wanted to do the job.
Description of Work: They came out and looked at my crawlspace and never called me back.

Response from Crawlspaces 2 Basements
The member had a failing foundation under her residence and expected someone to come in and fix the problem in 5 to 10 days due to her scheduled vacation. The member had let this problem consistently get worse for over 40 years and it instantly became someone else's emergency to repair. The repairs to the foundation were extensive and in our professional opinion the residence needed a new foundation all together due to several items of negligence (bad roof, bad gutters, no positive drainage around the residence, developed property to the north storm water is dumped on the member's property, general neglect on the owners part, no up-keep on the property for decades, etc.) to the residence by the member. The member was not interested in hearing what the proper repair involved she just wanted it fixed as cheap as possible. Her response was she couldn't afford the proper repairs on a fixed income. I then proceeded to spend additional time with the member (our time was no charge to her) talking to her about things that should or could be done for a minimal investments. These particular tasks we did not perform in house and I explained this to her several times with my associate present (and once again she had no comprehension on her part). I was just trying to help and be a good steward of our appointment and to her situation. The member could not understand the severity of the condition. Her physical condition would not allow her to go into the basement/crawlspace so she could not personally inspect what my associate and I saw in the basement. I also consulted my Structural Engineer to go out to the residence and perform a site inspection; he indicated that The member's house was one of the worst foundation conditions he had ever seen. Our engineer and myself specialize in the preservation and repairs to vintage and historical homes with over 80 projects in our portfolio. This is what we do for a living and we know what were talking about! My associate and I spent over 2 hours out at the house trying to explain to her what was going on with no comprehension on her part! I told her she should consult a brick mason trying to find some sort of option for her. I also indicated to her at that time that C2B was not a brick mason and that I would try to contact my mason to see if they could assist, unfortunately my mason was booked out until spring. Once again my time was Pro-Bono with no appreciation on the member's part. I tried to explain to the member that C2B could not come in and put a band aid repair on the foundation (which is what she wanted) due to the legal liabilities of her request regarding failure of the foundation after the completion of any band aid repairs. Her response was that was my problem and not hers! Crawlspaces 2 Basements was very sorry that we could not help the member. We will not provide band aid repair services like the member wanted. C2B prides itself in quality work and we will not provide services that can run the risk of our clients home, clients lives, or our workers lives. If the member does not understand that then we ARE NOT the contractor for her! If this is how she responds to contractors that provide her FREE time and and HONEST opinion about her home; how is she going to respond to a contractor that provides band aid repair that fails! I'm sorry that she feels the way she does, I cannot change that! I'm sorry she wants a band aid repair, I cannot change that! I'm sorry that she does not comprehend what I conveyed at her residence, I cannot change that! Crawlspaces 2 Basements WILL ALWAYS provide quality work and services. I am extremely disappointed that the member felt the need to lash out in this manner, especially with all of the time we spent with her and educating her on the situation. It is obvious to me that no one else cared enough to spend the same amount of time with her that I had. C2B works extremely hard to keep our ratings high. I have personally been recognized on several other ratings on Angie's List and others. Unfortunately we are unable to fulfill everyone's request, especially when they are substandard and can risk the lives and property of others!!!!!! Jason S. Crawlspaces 2 Basements

Went well - very informative
Description of Work: I emailed the company on 10/19/11 to see if a small project was something they would entertain. Jason called me within 30 minutes, and through our conversation was able to determine that the initial project would be too small for them, due to the size of their team and their carrying costs, but he was able to provide feasibility and a ballpark estimate on a larger crawlspace reclamation project over the phone. Very impressive! They were responsive, definitive, and helpful. I will call them if and when we decide to go ahead with the larger project. Thanks!

I bought a house with undisclosed termite damage that my home inspector, realtor and structural engineer missed. The damage involved the entire support beam and posts, and even though I knew I would be repairing some structural elements at one point or another in my 100+ year old house, I completely missed this monster in the basement. I had a parade of contractors touring my home as soon as I learned the severity of the situation, and for four long months I wasted my time with contractors who would come have a look, say they would give me an estimate in a couple days, and then disappear. The few bids I did get were either beyond my means or felt dubious, and I was running out of contractors! I'm sure any home owner, especially a new one, would understand that I found this situation disheartening. Luckily at an intersection I was waiting behind a white van with this companies decal. Figured if anyone knew how to replace the main support structure of an old house it would be a company like this, so I decided to attempt one more bid. My call was picked up by Jason and he was so refreshing to talk to! He immediately gave me information without me having to dig, beg or trick it out of him. He OFFERED up ball park figures, something every previous contractor REFUSED to do. This may not sound like much but it is incredibly stressful not to know if something starts at $500 or $50,000. It was nice to be treated like a reasonable person. Jason came out a few days later, discussed the realities of a project like mine, and I had a bid from him a week later. My experience with him was so positive compared to all the previous contractors that I wanted to give him the job, even if his bid was significantly more. And it wasn't. The work was completed quickly, final cost as expected and with minimal intrusion on my life (a different contractor had said I'd have to move out during the process). My structural engineer was happy with the work they did, I wasn't financially hobbled and I now have peace of mind... at least when it comes to my homes structure. I don't know if I had a string of bad luck at the beginning or a bit of good luck at the end, but Crawlspaces 2 Basements is a benefit to the industry.
Description of Work: Replaced wooden main support beam spanning length of home and posts with steel. Posts required new footings. Also raised and repaired a failed floor sill and sistered some joists. Cleaned up the resulting mess.

My wife and I were down to two homes in our home buying search. One we liked more than the other but it had no basement. It was just a basement with mostly crawl space. We like the house enough that i began to do research on the various companies in the Columbus, OH location willing to consider a project where the crawlspace of a basement is transformed into livable space. Essentially, take a partial basement and make it a full. Unfortunately, not many companies did this in Columbus. I could not find anyone willing to take on the job that seemed to have previous experience. When I was doing my research I found CrawlSpaces2Basements.com. Although located in Denver, I wanted to call to discuss my options. I spoke to Jason Shaw, program manager at CrawlSpaces2Basements.com. We spoke for over 30 minutes easily, and he patiently answered all of my questions and concerns on my situation. At one point I even considered flying him out to Columbus to do the job! It just wasn't a job I was financially ready to take on. I wish he was in Columbus or their company would expand to across the country. It sounds like a great business model. I told Jason I would post the favorable report on Angies List. Although it has been 5 months since I spoke to him, I wanted to post this. I have a friend in Denver who I will refer to Jason. The website is professional and so was Jason. I would recommend this company to anyone considering remodeling a basement or who has a crawl space and interested in making it a normal size basement.
Description of Work: This report is based on a phone call between myself and Jason Shaw, program manager at CrawlSpaces2Basements. It was extremely professional. The fact his company is located in Denver, CO and I am in Columbus, OH and he is taking the time to talk to me speaks volumes of the company.
