The contractor, Junior, ran out of cement and it was nearly 1 1/2 hours before the cement truck returned to finish pouring the driveway. There is an ugly jagged seam running through the lower 1/4 of my driveway. The cement is a different color. The integrity of this cojoint is one of my primary concerns. I've spoken to several other individuals working with cement and everyone of them says this is absolutely not the way cement should be poured and that it will crack. Also, within two weeks of the the cement being poured, I had a crack show up in the driveway...not in one of the seams and not in the area of the cojoint. Plus I have a crack in the back patio pad that was poured on the same day. I also have white streaks throughout the driveway and front steps; these showed up the day the cement was poured. I understand now that they should have cured the cement to prevent the streaking since it was a hot day. I contacted the general manager, M.A. Warwick, on 9/26 voicing my dissatisfaction. I received no return call. I called and spoke to the owner, Mark DeGeorge, on 10/16 regarding the issue. Interestingly enough, he wasn't concerned about the cracks or the cojoint, but the white streaks. He contacted M.A. and M.A. left me a message stating Junior will contact me by Monday, 10/20. On 10/22, having not heard from Junior, I called M.A. and left another message. I received no call back from either M.A. or Junior, or the owner asking if my problem has been resolved. I went with the company because they told me they "used their own people"; no contractors. Yet, Junior is a contractor (Quinones Concrete). I feel as if I was misinformed from the start. I have a very pour result, one that will not last as long as it should because Junior ran out of cement and "poured hot mud". He even knew he wasn't going to have enough when he ordered the cement on 9/20. He knew that that the cement truck would have to go and get another load to finish the job. Had I known that there was an issue such as this, I would have demanded they wait until the second truck could be there waiting for the first truck to finish. I reported them to BBB. BBB closed the case stating the business tried to contact me and rectify situation. I never received a call. If they called, they didn't leave a message. Since then, the back pad has split into four pieces. I do not think they prepped the ground appropriately. The slab will need to be replaced in the next year or two. Lessons learned: do your research. Get multiple bids. Get references. Learn as much as you can before hiring. Also, I paid for job prior to completion. Big mistake! I lost all ability to negotiate once they had my money.
