What left a bad taste in my mouth was that the office had provided me with an estimate based on an hourly rate prior to scheduling my move, and verbally confirmed this with me. After the move was completed a new minimum charge that they don't include on their estimates or advertisements was placed on my invoice. This increased my cost by over 20%. If this had been mentioned prior to the move, I would have chosen another company. I wouldn't trust them in the future.
Overall, the move day went well. Hard workers and showed up on time. The movers had to separate our loads into two. One load for our temporary apartment and one for storage. That was done very efficiently. No real damage noted except for a few corners that were nicked as furniture was moved around them. Several items are in storage, so I don't know yet if any damage will be discovered on that load. I purchased full coverage insurance.
Would have given whole experience an A if I didn't have some billing issues. On completion of move from Denver to San Diego, company attempted to charge us for entire move even though there was still a future move from apartment to our eventual home that was included on the bill of lading. They did correct that, however I was charged for one months storage and one time fee to move into storage . This amount was never paid to the storage company after many calls from myself to Colorado Hi Tec (Wheaton Van Lines) accounting department. They were confused on the issue which was a very easy one to correct. I found it difficult to have to go back and forth from the storage company to the accounting department, when accounting should have assumed that role. Bottom line is to check your billing carefully and ask to speak to a manager if it is not correct. I ended up paying the storage company and getting my balance due adjusted from Colorad Hi Tec. So all worked out with frustration on my end.
Overall, I would use them again.
I had a lot of antiques and they were in the truck for a week, my big screen was lost and I was delivered somebody elses.
They charged my card (breaking the law) the day after loading when it should be charged upon delivery, they lost boxes, they said I did not mark correctly upon delivery, , broke things that were not replaced (they said I had to find original invoices), did not put anything together because they could not find the box that contained all the screws, etc, it took two months to deliver my television.
An antique desk was messed up in the mechanism.
The day of delivery They were leaving and still had a box and an oriental rug, if I had not checked the truck I would have lost those pieces.
I had to hire two men to assemble all the furniture and spend about 400 dollars extra.
I would never use this company again. Four years ago Mayflower moved me to denver and they were fantastic..
The estimate followed two days later. Colorado Hi-Tec's pricing was significantly lower than two other companies. John had estimated my shipment at 8,500 lbs. while others estimated the shipment at 10,000 lbs. While I recognized that John probably underestimated my shipment, it didn't cause me concern. I felt that John was the most straight-forward, personable representative that visited my home and would live up to his statement, "You're going to have a good move with us." I accepted Colorado Hi-Tec's not-to-exceed price.
The downside of this short estimate is that the crew showed up at my house on the day of the move and immediately said, "This isn't going to fit in the truck." I must admit that possibility didn't occur to me. Another truck was arranged to pick up the remainder of my goods that same day. The crew did a great job protecting the large things like furniture. They were courteous and seemed to take a great deal of care loading things onto the truck. They fit most of my things onto the first truck. There was one concern. After my dryer was already loaded up I was told that the top was dented and that it was in that condition when they went to take it out of the house. I honestly don't remember the dryer having a dent. I would have appreciated them pointing that out before starting to move it.
I didn't think the second crew that showed up to load the second truck did the same quality job the first crew did. I asked them why they weren't protecting certain things and they said that it would be better packed at the warehouse. This second shipment was to be stored for a time and was not guaranteed to arrive with the main shipment.
The first shipment arrived at the latter end of the four day window and the second shipment arrived a week later. I thought the local Wheaton agent's crew were careful and conscientious. This being said there were some furniture items that arrived with corner dents. This was disappointing. Also, some of the boxes on the first truck were crushed. There was no visible damage to the goods packed inside. The vast majority of the shipment arrived without damage.
I was pleased with the experience, but I did give Colorado Hi-Tec a "B" for overall experience because of the split delivery, the way the goods on the second truck were packed (even if it was just driving 10 miles back to the warehouse), and the arrival condition of a couple of pieces of furniture.
