Rob was the only one I could get to come out and look at the boiler for a home we were purchasing on short notice. Our inspector had noticed that is was leaking CO2 and there were a couple of other problems that were noted by the inspector and another Heating contractor had told us the Boiler should just be replaced. The seller had a few things fixed, but we were not confident that everything was fixed properly. Rob said he would come out and give us his unbiased opinion. The sellers, Realtors and myself were all present when Rob came out. He was able to explain what he thought should be done and make all parties comfortable with his evaluation. He made some fixes onsite and told us that although it was an older boiler, it still had a lot of life left in it. I would not hesitate to recommend Rob to anyone who has a hot water heating system. I don't know the cost, since the sellers paid for repairs.

I had recently moved to Denver.  It was October and was getting cold. I wanted to have my 95 year old boiler serviced and checked out before I turned it on for the winter.  Due to my procrastination I found myself in a pinch because it was the first week of October and I had to leave for a business trip for two weeks.  I was afraid to leave the house without heat for that period because the weather was predicting quite a cold snap while I would be gone.
I called several outfits and no one could come in the two day window I had remaining since they were all booked doing the same service for people who had better planning skills.  I found a tag on my boiler with Ball Mechanical?s phone number.  I called and left a message.  Late that day, about the time I gave up hope, he called me back.  When I explained my situation, he said he happened to be nearby and asked if he could come over immediately.  I said yes and he showed up about 10 minutes later.  He was very helpful and thorough and specializes in old boilers.  He even remembered doing some work on this boiler with his father some years ago.  He explained a lot about how the system works and even topped off the system with water and bled the radiators upstairs, even though that was not part of the service I had requested.  I thought he was great and he really bailed me out of a jam.  I don't think he charged me an excessive amount even though he knew I was in a bind.

They specialize in maintaining older boiler systems. I had used his father for many years, and he continues the good service. I don't know of anyone else that offers the same type of service in the Denver area. I really feel that they are experts in their field, and they always offer a fair price.

Excellent workmanship, service, expertise, and trustworthiness. This is a longtime family business. The founder, "Doc" Ball has retired, but his son, Rob, has kept it alive - thank goodness. If you have a steam boiler and hot water heating system in an older home, this is who you need to call when you need service. If it's repairable, Rob will repair it before he would suggest any replacement. These type of heating systems are complex and need a particular expertise; replacing a steam boiler system is many times more costly that a gas-fired furnace in a home with central heating and A/C. Rob has been instrumental in keeping the boiler, piping, and radiators functioning properly in our nearly 80-year old home in Park Hill. "Doc" and Rob Ball's reputation for keeping the heating systems alive in these classic homes is legendary in our neighborhood. I would trust any recommendation Rob made. Rob has serviced our system for a number of years as well as those of many of our neighbors. Our previous service calls were more routine, involving cleaning and various valve replacements. Today's service was more critical in that a significant dripping leak suddenly appeared which was first noticed when a damp area was noticed in a carpeted area in the finished part of the basement outside the boiler room. A call to Rob brought him out the same day (last night) to assess what needed to be done. He obtained the materials he needed this morning and completed the job today. Here's where he exceeded the call to duty: because of a remodeling job years ago, the boiler room was walled off and access to the area of the leak was limited. Actually, it appeared to be impossible. I was prepared to remove a built-in bookcase on one wall to provide access to the work area. However, Rob, with hardly mentioning it, was able to climb over the 5-foot high boiler, contort himself over the large diameter steam pipes above it, and get down on the back side where there was minimal space to stand and bend down in order to get to the leaking pipe where it entered the boiler near the floor. An amazing feat in itself - one that I could never perform. I suspect a lesser company, or one with less dedicated employees, would have merely had me remove the wall and bookcase - or, even worse, suggest replacing the entire boiler - needlessly as it turned out. Service - positively! I would rely on Rob any day!
