It went very slowly.  I think it was about three weeks from the signing of the contract till they began actual work.  The work was quietly done, in that the workers did not talk loudly or play music.  The take down phase left old roof staples all over the place.
The next phase began the delay problems.  The shipment was not enough to cover the whole roof.  They did not use the right shingles at the end; my very observant wife was able to detect thinner shingles in two parts of the roof.  This is where they had run out and instead of doing it right, they tried to get by with the thinner ones.  This precipitated about two extra trips out, because they only fixed one section the first time and we had to point out the remaining section to a manager before they would accept our claim.  This was quite a hassle.  Finally, my acid test for roofers is cleanup, as nails can either cause a trip to the hospital if one goes into the foot, or a trip to the tire store if one goes into a tire.  My wife found about three or four handfuls of nails.  It is evident they had not at all run the magnet to scour for nails.  They had to come two times for this before my wife was satisfied.  There are methods used by good roofers to prevent nails and debris from getting all over your property; Stahl roofing did not use them.  The last problem was that during removal of my old roof they tossed debris onto my new deck and damaged both the deck and the railing.  I had to eat that one.  No, I would not use them again.

They had assigned the job to a specific representative who was very responsive to our calls. He also negotiated with the insurance company which was a long process because we had to get everything approved by the insurance. There were times when the insurance company did not want to pay for certain items but they reduced the estimate on the roof in order to accommodate that; so that the insurance company would pay for it. We got three quotes and they were the best and maybe if we had got three more then maybe they wouldn’t have been. They were the best that we found. They came and loaded all the stuff on the roof and then it was actually a week before they came and actually did the roof repair.

I bought an Angie's List "Big Deal" giving us $200.00 worth of gutter services for $99.00. I contacted the company for an estimate and secured an appointment within a few days. The estimator emailed over a written estimate of $420.00 and contract, explaining that within a few days after receiving the signed contract, I would be contacted and put on the company's work schedule. The estimate was O.K., about comparable to other company estimates I had had in the past, but with the "Big Deal" I'd save a few hundred bucks, so I signed and faxed back the agreement. Then--nothing for two weeks. I had to call them to ask when I'd be put on the schedule. Long story short-- they had had such an overwhelming response to the Angie's List "Big Deal," that it was obvious they had "too much" work. Anyway, after they located my paperwork, they called me back, apologized for the delay, and sent a team out the next day to perform my gutter replacement/addition. Finally, I waited for the balance due bill, but it never came, so I just sent the balance due myself so I wouldn't be "lost" again.
Overall, the price and quality were just fine. I am happy with the gutters. The only reason for the B ratings here are due to the lack of communication/slow response, because I was lost in the overwhelming number of jobs they got from Angie's List!

I spent considerable time researching roofing companies before signing a contract with Stahl (AVI Roofing).  I already had an estimate from my insurance company, so I knew the full extent of the damage claim.  I was referred to Stahl by a trusted source and I called them immediately.  The Stahl representative responded within 2 hours of my call and gave me a complete estimate within 24 hours.  The sales rep was knowledgeable, thorough, professional, and honest during each step of the process.  Most importantly, he only sold me what I needed and was not running the scam I encountered from many other roofing contractors.  (Most of the original roofers I spoke to would not give me a standalone estimate to replace my roof.  They wanted my approved insurance claim and told me they would take care of all the details.  In my opinion this is a scam.)
I was told before signing a contract that there was a backlog of roofing jobs and it may be 3-4 weeks before they could start.  That was fine with me.  They called me 2 weeks later to schedule a date to load the shingles and start the job.   The job actually started 2 days later than planned due to weather-caused delays the week prior.  The work went quickly (1.5 days) and they completely cleaned up after the job was finished.  The whole project was completed with 3 weeks of my initial call.
Bottom line:  If you want a reputable, knowledgeable LOCAL roofer who isn't trying to scam you or your insurance company, call Stahl.

The roof job was scheduled for a Wednesday and no one showed up.  I called and was told they wouldn't be there until Thursday. I requested they call me Wednesday night if there would be any additional delay.   So Thursday I called at 11:30AM to find out they weren't coming until Friday.  I called the salesman and complained-he assured me they would be there Friday at 7:30.  I asked if they could come at 8:30 instead and he said ok.  Later Thurs. the production manager came and viewed the area and also assured me they would be there at 8:30.  At 7:15 AM Fri. I had several workers in front of my house (I wasn't even dressed, the dogs hadn't been out).  I asked that they leave my gate closed so I could let my dogs out on a few times during the day.  The first time I checked before I let them out & of course the gate was open. When the production manager came to see how things were I told him about the early arrival time and the gate issue and he got very confrontational and blamed me for not having dogs who would stay on the property.  He also said they wanted to start earlier because of the heat.  This would have been ok if the salesman had said something about that.  I would have been dressed and the dogs taken care of earlier.  During the roof installation one of my sky lights received 4 stress cracks.  The salesman reluctantly agreed to replace it (had to be ordered in). The gutter installers couldn't complete the installation the same day because they didn't bring enough gutter.  This was a special ordered color of gutter from their measurements so why didn't they have enough the first trip? They completed the gutters the next day.  Three weeks later they came to replace the damaged skylight (they said it should just take 1-2 hours).  After about 2 hours the worker said he had to go to Home Depot to get some matching flashing.  Then after another 1 1/2 hours he tells me he had to put the original (cracked) skyliht back in because the factory had sent the wrong size.  What concerns me is if he had been able to make the wrong size skylight fit would he have told me.  If it had started leaking later on I wouldn't have known why.  I feel that once he realized the new skylight was the wrong size he should have told me and reordered the correct size.  Why didn't they check the size before they brought it out to install.  At this point I had no trust left that they would replace the skylight correctly so declined to have them try again.

It was a longer process than first thought becasue of Rain and work had to be rescheduled.  Was a bit confusing due to the roof was done by one company and the gutter work by a different company.  Sometimes they did not communicate that well, but Steve Soils kept on top of everything.  He stopped by and called often; even had them redo a portion of gutter to how he wanted it and did the final approval.  Price was $1,281.00 (less with Angie's List Coupon ($99 for $200 worth of gutter repair or replacement)) Of course, we do not know how all this works out as yet.  We've had nothing but beautiful Colorado weather, but winter will come and Steve has promised that he is "on call" and if there are any leaks in the basement he will make it right.

The estimate process and salesperson visit and interactions went smoothly, and the work started as scheduled. they were done with the roof and the gutters quickly and efficiently, but did not install all the additional soffitt vents and roof vents-I needed to call them back for that. Then it took some time for the roof inspection by the City--the roof failed the inspection, reportedly for some minor things. Things went downhill from there. I was told the things that needed to be fixed were completed, and the re-inspection would take place towards the end of August. I had a ladder leaning against my house for almost two weeks that they dropped off for that purpose, but never had any follow-up. I finally called the office to ask about the re-inspection, was it done, did it pass. Kim could find no record that the re-inspectuion had ever been schedled, but she did get the ladder moved until it could be. I got a followup call finally from Ryan who said he would be out to "fix the minor things" (despite having a prior message from him indicating that would happen weeks earlier). That was the last I heard from Ryan. Time passed, and I finally called Kim again, having never seen that the roof passed inspection. She checked with the City and found the re-inspection had never been scheduled, and did arrange for this. By now we were around 10/24. I finally got a re-inspection 10/29, and the roof failed again--the inspector note sounded like the "minor things" noted the fiirst time had never been fixed. It is now 10/31, and the roof has yet to pass inspection.
I do credit Kim in the office for always taking my calls, following up with me as she promised. She is the main reason the company got the rating it got for service. The roof and gutters look good, and we have had several rains and snows, and there have been no leaks. However, finalizing the process has been frustrating and disappointing, and I would not recommend this company given this experience. It should not be like this.

I didn't hear from him for 4 to 5 weeks. I went away on a trip and when I returned there was a message on my phone that day June 19th. The message stated the roofers would be there on June 22nd. I immediately called the comp and talked to the mgr and he explained it was our responsibility to remove the gutter helmets since the contract stated that. On July 9th the crew finally came to take off the old roof and replace with new roof. I went out to talk to the crew member in charge and found out that he didn?t speak English, but had a young teenager to translate. The purpose was to explain to the crew that the diverters needed to be taken off very carefully and they all agreed. They proceeded to start working and then the representative arrived and I explained the issue to him. He stated that he would take care of it. After the roof was scraped the representative stated that the sheaving wasn?t up to code and he would have to install new sheaving which would cost $2475 extra. I believed this to be unethical because the estimate wasn?t based on zoning upgrades. I also explained to them that I park my car in the garage and didn?t want to park the car in the street the representative stated that would be fine. In the course of doing the scraping of the garage one of the workers fell through and debris fell on the car. The representative took pictures of the damage and stated to me that he didn?t know the car was in the garage. The job was almost completed I explained to the rep that I needed an itemized bill and also wanted a copy of the warranties of labor and material and list of subcontractors and or written document that everyone was paid for the work. I have contacted them on numerous occasions since I only received a bill dated July 10th which the project was not finished then. The project was not completed until July 24th. They then sent me a passed due bill before the project was done also.

I needed 2 simple roofing tasks completed in short time. A couple of companies that I contacted were not able to schedule me quickly, but AVI was able to work me in, which is a plus. But then the hassles began... The worst part about my experience was the lack of responsiveness and poor communication between AVI and myself, as well as between the individuals working for AVI. It took a few phone calls to reach the right person for a quote. I was told that it would be done the next day. After waiting two days, the quote had still not yet reached me. I called back to reschedule. The quote came in slightly higher than expected, but I went ahead with it because of time constraints. Even after multiple discussions and specific dates described, there was still confusion regarding when the work was needed to be complete. When I called back to confirm that all was on schedule, I found out that the work was scheduled days after it needed to be complete (for the sale of my house). Thankfully they were able to reschedule to meet my deadline (a plus, but this should not have been necessary). In short, while on the phone, each employee was very nice and seemed to understand my situation. But in practice, I feel like the follow through just fell short. The work was completed and is fine, but I hope for better customer interaction in the future.

The crew did a great job. I really liked how well they cleaned up afterwards. The edges of the north side of my roof were not trimmed, so I called them and they came back immediately to fix the problem. Otherwise the inspector would not have given his stamp of approval. Overall, I was completely happy with the service I received.

AVI came out and promptly to give an estimate. We had some trouble communicating about when the work would be done. The first time they came to do the work it was too windy and the guys left without saying anything. I didn't hear from anyone until I called the office to set up a time for them to come out again. Once they arrived to do the work they were very efficient and did a good job on the repairs. I received a follow up call once the work was complete to make sure everything I was done correctly. The estimate seemed a little expensive at first but it took two guys most of one day to do the work so in the end it seemed fair.

Although they came a day late, they did notify me that they would not be able to do the work until a day later. While the workman failed to correctly diagnose the leak on the first try (a rainstorm immediately after repair showed the leak was as bad as ever), a call to the office brought a manager who pulled out more tiles and found the actual problem. He provided specific instructions to the workman who returned (with apologies) and fixed the leak. Though multiple trips were required, the work was completed for the amount of the original quote. We were especially impressed by the professionalism of the manager who came out.
