We were going to sell our home. After talking to a Realtor, he suggested getting the roof certified after we mentioned that it had 3 layers of shingles and was at least 12 years since the last layer was installed. Not knowing where exactly to find roofer, we asked friends for referrals. One of our friend's roofers was a "can't miss" guy. We talked to him, he was alright, pretty laid back, didn't really seem overly enthused, just a straight-forward blue collar, sole-proprietor kind of guy. So what the heck, we gave him a try. Not exactly the kind of service/quality we wanted, but it was alright. He made some repairs but said he couldn't certify it. Great :-(
So one day on my way to my office on my scooter, I'm driving up to a light and I see this truck completely wrapped with a roofing company decal and advertisement. I'm not normally one to go for big brand, or big-box type of outfits, but I asked them to roll down their window. They gave me some cards, and the light turned green.
I call them a week or so later. Nathan answers the phone. Perfectly nice, very knowledgeable. He asks a lot of specific questions and makes some suggestions. I told him about our previous guy and that we were looking for a second opinion. He wants to come out and have a look. There is a chance that the roof could be replaced by insurance, he says, and that I should start by calling my insurance company to find out what my coverage is.
Days go by, and I haven't done anything about the roof. Nathan, the good business-person he is, periodically gives me follow up calls to see if I have made any progress. Not sure what I'm actually going to do, I have no good answer. He eases up on the occasional calls, which I found quite professional and low-pressure. Maybe a few weeks later, I call my insurance. Bingo, I have wind/hail damage coverage if I need it. I call Nathan back, he remembers me well, and he is EXTREMELY quick to help. He gets my address, checks out the roof on his own, and confirms he can see visible signs of hair and wind damage, some looking more recent. He explains the insurance process to me, what we need to do, etc. Though he has never worked with my particular insurance company before, so he couldn't vouch for their process or ease to work with, he sets me off in the right direction and I call my insurance company back to tell them the findings. Off we go.
No more than a couple days later, Nathan is meeting with our insurance adjuster on our roof. Not only does the adjuster agree there is damage and it needs replacing, we have an obsolete T-Lock roof, so they can't replace individual shingles. The whole roof has to come down. Furthermore, the existing gutters won't be able to fit on a new roof because of the obsolete way they were mounted. And lastly, when they checked the attic, I needed new decking because my boards were spaced too far apart!
What does this all mean? Nathan (and Jamie) of All Around Roofing have me covered, they've got our back. They keep us updated in a frequent and timely fashion. They took all the hassle out of working with our insurance company, even though they'd never worked together before. Before I know it, I've been approved for the roof and now the financial aspect comes into play. Nathan explains how the money will trade hands, what may or may not happen with the checks, etc. I'm feeling good and reassured. Sure enough, our checks have to be endorsed by our mortgage company, and so we have to wait for insurance to mail them to me, I need to contact my mortgage company to find out how to get their endorsement, etc.
As the logistics begin to pile on, we realize the timing could take weeks. Explaining to Nathan, as he knew from the beginning, we wanted to sell the house and quickly. He arranged to begin the roof replacement even before the money exchanged hands. All he needed was a signed contract, contingent only on the insurance company approving and paying, he spoke to my insurance company to ensure they were approving the amounts and were sending checks, and he placed my order ASAP. Great! Wonderful guy, wonderful company.
The great service doesn't stop there. We are also getting our house painted. Nathan suggests we wait to paint until after the roof replacement due to the nature of job and how it can be messy. Unfortunately, the painters pushed us WAY up in their schedule, so we couldn't turn them away. As the painters are needing to prep and scrape all the fascia boards, the old gutters are in the way. I explain to Nathan that I don't want these guys painting around the gutters. So what does Nathan do? He personally rushes over and removes the gutters himself. From what I heard, it's a difficult and messy job. He and his team pull through BIG TIME again.
The painters are done after a couple of days, and within another day or 2, Nathan and team are out of the house. We weren't onsite at the house while the replacement was going on, but Nathan was great to keep us up-to-date. We even had a special request to add a venture for a range hood that we were going to add. Nathan needed to know what width pipe we needed to accommodate. We had no idea, other than it was an IKEA island range hood. So we look online, and there are no instructions or specs for this hood that we can find. So what does Nathan do? He drives down to IKEA and finds out for us!! They place the vent and the ducting in the exact right spot for the future hood, good to go.
They were in and out within a couple of days. Cleanup was quick and efficient. They protected the house with minimal, if any, blemishes to the new paint job. Fast, courteous, professional, the list goes on and on and on. We've used plenty of contractors in our lifetime for various projects big and small. We are pleased to say that, in no uncertain terms, this was the most seamless, easy and enjoyable housing project we have ever had the pleasure of being part of. That is an easy compliment and endorsement to give because we practically consider ourselves scarred and disenchanted for life with pretty much any contractor/vendor we have ever dealt with. We don't know if there were any serious complications, gotchas or "situations" before, during or after the project, because Nathan sheltered us completely from any of that. If there was something that needed to be addressed, he took care of it, and all we knew was that we had a beautiful new roof. Isn't that how it should be?
What more can we say? Call All Around Roofing and ask specifically for Nathan and Jamie!
The thing that differentiates an average roofer from a great one is what happens if there is an issue. Well, one of the roofing nails when through a freon line in an upstairs air conditioning unit. Chris immediately called his own a/c guy and had it taken care of -- I was really impressed with that kind of service. And I was so glad that I didn't have to argue about it to get it done. These guys are great and I'd be more than happy to use them again or to recommend them to anyone.
