A+ Hardwood floors did a great job! I would hire them again in a heartbeat!
These people know their stuff. The floors are beautiful and we can't tell where the old flooring starts and the new flooring begins. We used their clean sweep service and that was great. Their was hardly any dust anywhere. I have had hardwood installed once before, at another house, and that went ok. Now that I have experienced a great job, I won't hire anyone else for hardwood.
We had some concerns about the stains and finishes because I remembered the last time I had floors installed, it smelled in the house for months. We had the floors installed while we were gone, and used the water base option they offer. I could hardly smell anything when we got home. The entire staff is very accommodating and helpful. They went out of their way to help with the stain choices, and even brought us out a board with the stain choices we were trying to decide between. They also found that the damage under the fridge was a little worse that we even suspected, and a part of the subfloor needed replaced. They said that if I had a piece of plywood, they would repair it and not charge us. Another example of great customer service.
Unbelievably, we spilled some hair dye on a section of the floor not, 2months after they were finished. The owner of the company, Larry I think, came out to address the issue. The dye came right out, he refinished it and didn't charge me a thing! I also had just replaced some wooden hand rails and I wanted to match them to the hardwood floors and he brought me out product to do that too at no additional cost. Now thats customer service! I highly recommend this company and will use them in the future.
When not under close inspection the flooring is fine, but a little more attention to details/results more in line with what Aaron represented would have made it much better. Standing on its own, the new install is nice and we think would rate a B (good), but when added with the issues noted for the resanding/old floor it brings the project to a C (fair).
"As the customer states, we came to his house to assess what issues he was having. He was unahppy with the final coat so we put another coat down and, as he states, paid for his hotel expense. Our estimate states, "Trim will occasionally be slightly damaged due to sanding procedure. Homeowner can remove trim to avoid any damages." The customer knew the possibility of damage and chose not to remove the trim. Some damage was done during sanding, he complained about this and we paid for his new trim, as he states. We are unsure of how much more we could have done to make him happy. We addressed his concerns and did everything he asked."
Upon mentioning this to Brittany, the company rep who answers the phone, she sloughed it off as a walk-off problem. Upon further research, I found that walk-off might be the solution for a few problem spots or blemishes, but not for an entire floor. The new residents, one of whom is an experienced property manager, complained that it was difficult to walk barefoot/shoeless on such abrasive flooring.
They agreed that either the finishing sanding hadn?t been done or done properly or that something went awry with the finish application.
Upon contacting Brittany again, she agreed to have Larry (the owner) meet me at the site to see what could be done. One of the residents was present when I met with Larry. After much dithering, he offered to provide a free screening and coating, to be done when the place becomes vacant again and he would send me a coupon to that effect. A week later, upon contacting A+ again, I received their ?coupon?. It was a letter stating what had been promised, but it was typed on blank paper. There was no letterhead used and there was no authorizing name or signature given. I left a message with A+, questioning the validity of their coupon (anyone could have typed it up), and asking for rectification of this problem ?coupon?. However, I have received no response from them. Their professionalism and customer service are non-existent.
In addition, I mentioned to Larry that use of dust containment equipment on this job was questionable since I had layers of dust everywhere to clean/wipe up when A+ was finished with the job. I?ve never had to cleanup so much dust on previous sandings with other refinishers who used dust containment systems. These comments were shrugged off by Larry also.
"Once the customer called with concerns, we immediately sent Larry out to meet her that day. She did not bring the correct key so we told her it would not be a problem to come back the next day, which we did. Once we inspected the floor, the renters had already moved in and had created significant damage to the hardwood floors with their furniture. Once Larry inspected the floor, he agreed that the floors were slightly rough. He told her we could come in immediately to buff the floors and put a new coat of finish down at no charge. Or we would do the free coat of finish once the current renters moved out. She agreed to this and we sent her a letter stating to call us anytime to schedule the free coat. At this point we feel that we have resolved any issues with this job. We would also like to take a moment to thank all of the Angie's List Members for the great reviews and honoring us with our second Super Service Award in as many years."
