The reason I do not think it was an "A" for overall experience is for a few minor complaints (described below) that were ultimately handled to my satisfaction, which is always something to keep in mind when researching a prospective vendor or service company. I am very grateful that SolarGlass lived up to their mission of truly aiming to please the customer. Otherwise this could have been a very different review.
I chose to work with SolarGlass Window and Door in Cherry Creek after finding out that they offered storm windows. I had a hard time locating storm windows since everyone replaces windows these days. I was not interested in replacement windows because of the cost and the fact that my windows operate very well. Just looking for a little more insulation.Ed, my rep, showed me the Larson Gold line of storm windows. It is a good product and operates well. The only thing I'm not 100% pleased about is the Low E hard coat glass option that I opted to go with.
Not until after installation did I come to understand that the Low E coating has a hazy quality that is disruptive to clear viewing through a sunlit window. My home receives a lot of beautiful sunshine beaming through the windows, and I love looking through clean, clear glass. I was also not informed that tremendous care and diligence is required to keep the windows clean and not mar the hard coated surface because once it is marred nothing can be done. I'm glad I thought to ask if the manufacturer, Larson, had any special cleaning instructions that I should know about because I easily could have permanently damaged the window surface by using the typical squeegee or an ammonia product -hardly unusual methods of cleaning windows, but both are no-no's for these windows. Additionally - I have since discovered that many window cleaning companies including my favorite one, won't go near this type of window cleaning job, viewing it as a potential liability.
Another minor complaint besides not being warned about the issues mentioned above is that SolarGlass allowed installers with no apparent knowledge of what they were handling to clean the windows before installation, resulting in storm windows that appeared to have been cleaned with what one person commented looked like a mixture of mayonnaise and water. White milky streaks and swirls were visible. Greasy fingerprints were obvious and adhesive residue was left on one of the windows and some silicone caulk on another.
The Good News and perhaps the main reason for an above average grade- Ed made sure that every complaint was resolved to my complete satisfaction and he hired a professional window cleaner with special knowledge of the Low E hard coat surface to take care of the mess that had been left behind by the original crew. For me, that gesture helped to minimize some of the other issues- the Low E glass, the lack of information up front and the long timeline required for this project. It continues to be a welcome surprise these days when customer service is valued as I believe it is at SolarGlass Window and Door. Thanks to you all.
And the new windows are WONDERFUL. Noticeably less noise, less heat when sun shines in directly through some of the windows, easy cleaning, easier to take the screens in and out......
