High Timber Deck

About us

High Timber Deck has been locally owned and operated in the Colorado Foothills for over a decade. Randy Romanin, owner, is not your typical 'jack of all trades' carpenter. He specializes in custom decks are outdoor living spaces. As a small business owner, Randy has his hand in every step of each project - from the concept to the finishing touches. While he recognizes that this limits him somewhat, he still chooses to do business the old fashioned way - and the outcome is a beautifully handcrafted piece of functional artwork.

It went well, but (as with all contractors) be sure that what you think you are getting a bid for is exactly what you are going to get. I assumed my bid included the existing gate to the deck that was demolished, but I had to pay extra to get the gate. I assumed that the new stairs down from the deck would reach the ground or the patio that the old stairs reached, but they didn't (old stairs were not to code). We had to go get a treated 6x6 and cut it up and install it to support the bottom of the stairs and bridge to the existing patio (or I guess we could have paid them to do that--don't know how much). There was a small glitch with the woodhouse floor, and I am waiting to hear back on a small (6"x2") piece of material to fix that. Randy did do a little extra work on my flight of stairs out front, so I think we are even!
Other than that, Randy and Dan were professional, informative, and really skilled. The deck is beautiful and will last longer than I do. I would give them, overall, an A-.

I initially receive quotes from 4 companies and looked at a lot of decks. I noticed that the large companies who run several crews, tend to have varying quality depending on what crew built the deck. High Timber Decks prices were very competitive. Randy (the owner) is always on site and does the work himself. He is very meticulous and does excellent work. Be patient with him on the business aspect of the job (not his strong point) because the quality of work is well worth it. Like every construction project (we have done a few) we ran into a few glitches (county would not allow us to use old footers, etc.), but no show stoppers, and no problems with High Timber Deck. Went with 6x6 timbers posts, cedar fascia boards, composite decking and metal rail. Finish product looks wonderful.

Randy, the hands-on owner, has excellent extensive experience as evidenced by his design approach and fine craftsmanship. I am very pleased. (Note: As in most projects, if there are certain details you want done in a particular way, be sure to emphasize them in advance so they are understood.)

Randy answered our initial call. He then came out at the appointed time to get a complete description of the work we wanted. He replied with a detailed quote by phone within 24 hours. Randy was more able/willing to give us a quote in a timely manner and his quote was more reasonable than any of the other contractors we contacted. He showed up on time with his crew on the start date we agreed upon. Not only did he complete the job as contracted but he showed thoughtfulness and excellent workmanship in the way he did the job. He went the extra mile in the care he took designing and installing the gates and fencing. His methods insured our convenience and aesthetic appreciation of the way he tied the new stairway to the existing deck. He also consistently sought our input before finalizing parts of the installation to be certain that it met our functional needs, e.g. the fencing installation would keep dogs in. Randy and his crew finished before the projected deadline, kept the work site organized and clean, hauled away all their trash, never made unnecessary noise, e.g., they didn't play a loud radio to bother neighbors or shout at each other. Randy never found "surprise" items to raise the price. The job was finished for the price originally quoted. We recommend High Timber Deckworks without qualification.
