Last Spring I found a wonderful contractor (Bill, at First Choice Construction) to replace my average size L shaped deck. He had been using the Super Deck Store for years and sent me there. I asked the salesman a lot of questions because I wanted zero maintenance and no future problems. I chose a plastic product made by Gossen and a glass picket railing. He assured me the Gossen product was fantastic, everything I was looking for, but he did warn me that people didn't always like the glass railing because it was hard to keep clean. Bill had sent over the correct deck measurements, (allowing for wastage), and I showed their "Product Specialist, Scott, a brochure photo of the exact color, size and brand of the products I wanted. Turns out he over orders the planks and fasteners and the wrong kind of railing. Reordering the correct glass pickets was going to cause a delay, so I went online and found they wouldn't be delivered any faster, but they were cheaper. Scott assured me he would honor that price. At completion Bill offered to take back the extra planks, still on the pallet they were delivered on, (because the Store would charge to pick them up). When he got there, they told him they were going to discontinue the Gossen line because people were unhappy with it, that it scratched too easily. They wanted him to tell me they would only take back a few, (with a restocking fee!), and the rest were too scratched. Bill told them he couldn't believe how they were treating a customer, that he didn't see any scratches on the planks, and if there were any, they would have been caused when dumped off their truck. He backed me up everyway he could, but it just got worse from there. I never received any kind of an apology and they ignored me until I put a stop payment on my credit card. I wanted them to take back all the planks, refund the restocking fee, and honor the internet picket price they said they would on the glass pickets. (I gave up on getting a credit for over $60 in fasteners). They had me contact the District Gossen rep to come look at the planks that were taking up lots of room in my driveway for many weeks. He didn't see any scratches. Then they inundated me with loads of bizarre invoices and credits in the mail. (one credit memo would be identical to another except for a price had changed from negative to positive). It truly was an awful experience and I did eventually get the credits, but I am left with a deck I am nervous about using. However, the one thing they didn't want me to buy,- the glass picket railing- looks great.
