My regular awesome mechanic Pete Peterson told me he didn’t work on transmission replacement but gave me the name of someone he highly recommended so I called Don at Transmission Clinic and told him I needed a transmission replaced. He said hold on... he would look at my transmission on my 1996 Mazda Miata and determine what needed to be done and that if it needed a complete rebuild on the transmission it would need a rebuild as the one for my car was no longer manufactured but he could rebuild it if necessary. After a day in the shop I received the diagnosis. He replaced a part and wanted me to take the car out and drive it for a couple days and see if everything was good. Well it was as good as new and he replaced the fluid and filter and sent me on my way for about 8%of what I thought I would end up spending. I am in awe of anyone who in this day and age would ignore my “I need a new transmission” and do what was actually needed and save me a fortune ( to me ) . In addition everyone I encountered there was nicer than the last. What a business model. Thanks to everyone there.

I have a 2007 Ford Explorer that was driving with noticeable slipping at random intervals. I started researching transmission repair shops immediately. After, spending the better part of my Sunday afternoon reading reviews of any and every transmission shop around......I came across the name Transmission Clinic(3875 Interpark Dr Colorado Springs, CO 80907). I read all the reviews that I could find on this place on the internet. Then, Monday morning a took a trip to the business to see it for myself. I found the location and noticed that there was a lot of cars in the parking lot and the mechanics were all busy working in each bay. I proceeded into the office and was met by a super friendly staff member named Jess( a very knowledgeable lady that runs the counter) who immediately greeted me. I explained my problem with my car....and she said to bring it in on Tuesday for a free diagnosis. I dropped the car off that Tuesday and a hour later I received a text.....my car was being checked over. Before, the close of business I was informed that my car needed a new transmission. I told the owner Don C., that I needed some time to get the funds for the work and asked if i could leave the vehicle there in the meantime.....he said YES! With three kids in college money is tight. Two weeks later....I called the shop and told them to go ahead with the work. They went straight to work on it. A few days later I was informed that my explorer was ready for pickup. I went to pick up the truck and was told by Jess that the mechanic wanted to speak to me. I was introduced to the mechanic and he pointed out a safety issue not related to the work performed. I immediately drove it to a repair shop and had them look and it and was told that it needed to be repaired ASAP. The shop(transmission) told me to drive the vehicle for 500 miles and then return to the shop for a inspection. I followed the requirement and returned as asked and the inspection produced no concerns. I couldn't believe how nice the truck was driving. I just happen to have the previous owner of the vehicle with me for a quick lunch meeting a week after the repair. We started driving the vehicle and he noticed that it was running smoothly and asked if I repaired it. I told him that I put a rebuilt transmission in it over at the Transmission Clinic. As we were leaving the restaurant he asked if he could drive the explorer to see how it felt. I had to answer a call on the drive back to my office and when I looked over at his face I noticed a look of concern or something. My phone call literally took the duration of the entire trip time back to my office( A 15 Minute Call) to complete. He parked the car and got out and was making a phone call as I stepped out the vehicle. I waited for him to finish his call......then he turned to me and said. I just called my wife to let her know that we made a mistake selling the car because it drives beautifully. He said it drove just as nice as it did when he bought it brand new in 2007. He said that he replaced transmissions in the past on two of his former vehicles and neither of them drove that nicely after the repairs were made. He said that he sold me the vehicle because he didn't want the headache of trying to have it repaired and thus he did tell me when I purchased the vehicle back in July/2018 that the transmission was slipping and sold it to me for a fair price. I have put over a 1000 miles on it both highway and city driving. My feelings on the repairs conducted by the Transmission Clinic located at 3875 Interpark Dr Colorado Springs, CO 80907....is as follows. They are all truly highly respectful, dedicated, knowledgeable, helpful, and highly qualified trained mechanics that are shoulders above the competition out there. The owner Don has assembled a truly star studded staff that deserves the right to pat themselves on the back....because they darn sure did a fantastic job on my explorer and I couldn't be happier with their work. The $2800.00 I spent on the repairs was money well spent. I wouldn't even hesitate to recommend the Transmission Clinic to anyone in need of transmission services or repairs because I truly know that they will treat you right but more importantly they will go out of their way to make any and all repairs if needed right so that your driving down the road safe and soundly. I have a few vehicles( 3 suv's and 3 car's) but since I picked up my explorer. I have driven it daily since getting it back and my other cars are 2014 and newer and their work on this explorer makes it drive as if it was a new car itself. The number to the Transmission Clinic is (719) 822-0517. The reason I'm providing the number is because I did the research and read the reviews out there for all the shops I could find reviews on. This place is a hidden gem known to those who care about their vehicles and respect their hard earn money and can't afford to waste it or their time. Please, note I read the reviews and I saw the negative ones also, but what I learned from taking the time to go there myself was that the owner himself was very honest when I told him about the good and bad reviews. He took the time to to explain his side of the reviews and his answers made since and he even said that he can't please everyone but he wishes he could. I don't typically do reviews....I did one on a new Jaguar I bought a few years back(Sill Terhar in Broomfield, Colorado>Great Dealership<) and one on a awful restaurant experience in the springs that I won't mention by name because they are out of business now. I wasn't going to do a review on this place because I was just being lazy. But, I was talking to a friend who has a transmission going out on his 2001 Chevy Malibu and I know money is tight for him.....and I recommended the Transmission Clinic to him because of the free diagnosis. I hope it works out for him and I hope that this review gives anyone in need of transmission repairs at the very least the insight and ability to move forward with the assistance of the Transmission Clinic's advice or mechanical services. My names is James, I'm 48, a native of the springs and would meet anyone to show them my vehicle and how nicely it drives. But, I know that you putting your trust in the Transmission Clinic would be all the proof you'll ever need.....because their workmanship speaks volumes and I truly believe Don and his staff go out of their way to help customers as if we are a family and friends. Thank you guy's for a job well done and the peace of mind that i'm driving a vehicle with a sound and safe transmission in it. Sincerely, James S.

After 161K miles the transmission in my 2002 Lexus RX300 started slipping and the VSC and check engine lights came on. I took it to Brakes Plus and they found code P0770 Shift Solenoid E Malfunction in the transmission. They recommended I take the car to Transmission Clinic here in Colorado Springs. I called Don Callender and he said I could bring it right over. He verified the code and said it was time for a new rebuilt transmission that comes with a 3 year, 100,000 mile warranty. I left the car on a Thursday morning and by Friday afternoon at 5 pm it was ready to be picked up. Hard to believe he was able to get and install a rebuilt transmission that fast but he was. Very professional shop. I would highly recommend Transmission Clinic. Only complaint is that Don did not let me know that there was a 5% discount for Angie's List members.

We bought a used car which turned out to have a serious transmission problem: on hills, the engine would race, faster and faster, until it SLAMMED into a lower gear. We took the car to Don, who examined the car and explained the situation in detail: the transmission computer was shot, and until it was replaced, he couldn't tell whether the transmission was mechanically damaged or not. He made all the arrangements to have the vehicle towed to a Toyota dealer, and to have a new computer ordered, installed, and programmed. He also arranged to have the car towed back to his shop. Once the computer was working, Don could tell that the transmission only required one minor adjustment, which he completed. During this drawn-out process, Don stayed in touch with us and kept us apprised of progress. We are VERY satisfied with the car's transmission performance since we picked it up. We will use Don and Transmission Clinic for any future transmission work.

The cost of the repair was $0 because the dealer (bless his heart) paid for these repairs.

They came and got the car with their car hauler company, took it down to the shop, took the transmission out, took it apart and found out the transmission was no good. The gears were gone! So he called me and made some suggestions and we decided that he could look around the area and find another transmission. Once he found one, he had the company (In Denver?) deliver it. Low and behold they delivered an automatic transmission, mine was a 5 speed manual. So he called the place back and HE had one of HIS people drive up to the place to get it. Once they got the correct transmission they put it in and I went and picked it up. All the people in the place are courteous, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. I called them almost everyday (hoping I wasn't being a pain in the butt) to get an update and everyitme I called they were just as friendly as the first time I called. I always got a complete update and I am completely satisfied with the work they did. I recommend anybody that needs a transmission fixed to call these guys first.

I was sent to this company from a different tire place I was using to have work done. This company only put my truck on the scanner, they did not even inspect it. He gave me the run around and never really told me what was wrong. First he said something was wrong then he said it was something else entirely. Customer service was lousy and I left very unsatisfied.
Response from Transmission Clinic
"This customer was sent here by a tire store who she claimed overfilled her transmission and caused it to burn up. I was analyzing it, for both her and the tire shop. She really didn't care what I had to say, unless it was to get the tire shop to pay for a new transmission. Over filling by 1/2 to 1 quart will not harm an automatic transmission. It has a vent, and if there is too much, it will vent the excess fluid. Her transmission had burnt out the 3-4 clutch, which is a common #1 failure in this unit. So she had no 3rd or 4th gear. It was hastened by a bad Mass Airflow sensor, which helps regulate internal pressures in the transmission. Her "mechanic" that works out of his garage at home, gave her a different story, but he also has no idea how a transmission works. I do. I will always tell my customers the truth. No matter who's feelings it hurts. Yours or mine. In this instance, I wouldn't tell her what she wanted to hear, and she didn't like it. She was extremely argumentative with me and refused to listen. Keep in mind, all I did was analyze, I didn't even work on the vehicle. I truly hope she never comes in again. Don Callender Owner Transmission Clinic"

The same day I called, Don took a test drive with me in the car and then allowed me to be in the shop while his technicians did some additional diagnostic work with the car on the lift to confirm his suspicions. It was nice to be able to talk to the technicians while they worked and have them show me what they found, as they found it. After the diagnosis, Don explained in detail what he thought needed to be done. I appreciated that he spoke to me respectfully and intelligently when asking questions and describing the needed repairs. I'm fairly knowledgeable about cars but like to 'play dumb' a bit during the diagnostic phase to see how straightforward and honest someone is going to be with me. Don did a good job of explaining not only what needed to be repaired, but why. They were pretty busy when I dropped my car off, and some of the gear rebuild work that was required took a few days longer than they thought. The very pleasant surprise at the end was that they actually charged me a bit less than the original estimate, even though they had the extra work to do. That's completely unheard of in my experience. The only negative in my repair experience was that the driver's side interior had some new dirt on the door from the technicians getting in and out. They had protected the seat and the floor during the work, but not the cloth door handle. I decided to just tidy it up myself, but it was just something of a let down given the overall experience. One nice sort of intangible thing about this shop was that it was obvious that everyone really enjoyed working there. It may seem inconsequential to some, but to me it means that they feel they get to do good work in good working conditions without any pressure to be dishonest in what they think needs to be done to a car. This is one of those rare shops where I felt like the people would do as good a job on my car as they would on their own without tacking on a bunch of extra stuff I didn't need. I'll use them again without hesitation for any future transmission issues.

I was first very impressed by Don's honesty when I went in for a diagnostic. He hooked my car up to the computer, ran in through the gears a couple times, and told me the shifting looked fine. I was so glad to hear that, and he said "I'll always give you an honest answer, no matter whose feelings get hurt, even if it's mine!" So, I brought it back there a few days later to get the fluid flushed, as he recommended, since it looked pretty dirty. They did the work while I waited (a couple hours), and it totaled exactly what I'd been quoted.
