The carpets are about 8 years old.....we thought that we might have to replace them because the other carpet cleaner we had been using could not get the stains out. He said that they were not removable and that nothing could be done. We had used this "Discount Carpet Cleaner" several times because he had come highly recommended. This time I thought I'd try something new. I saw an ad on TV for Stanley Steemer and I thought I'd give them a try....and boy am I glad I did. Not only did the carpets look amazing...ALL the spots and stains, even the non removable ones, were GONE!!
Like the old saying says..."You get what you pay for".....These guys charge a bit more...but do a excellent job.....we worth the few extra bucks the charge.
The carpeting is of good quality (a wool blend), and a fairly short shag (about 1/2 inch). They did a walk-through of the carpet areas and apprised me of what was and perhaps was NOT possible (my carpet is approximately 30 years old, and had not been shampooed in 2 years).
I mentioned MOVING FURNITURE; this is a big deal given my relative lack of strength). I had already cleared all the shelves and tabletops of books, etc. Of course, they replaced all items after they were done. The guys spent about 3 hours total, more than half of which was devoted to the upholstery.
I had not originally planned to clean the furniture. Like the carpet, most of the furniture is about 30 years old, and upholstered in velvet, besides. I had repeatedly been told by other commercial cleaners that they would not do velvet; Tim (a true artist in this kind of cleaning) assured me that the nature of the steam-vacuum process would not harm the velvet. The beige velvet is once again beige (from a badly stained dark gray from newsprint and other handling); the navy blue velvet is several shades brighter. Tim even did the throw cushions!
Matt responded to my concerns about tenacious stains on the carpet (heavy traffic patterns in hallway and outside kitchen) by more intensive cleaning. The almost-black strip of carpet at the border between kitchen and dining room is once again dusky mauve, as are the traffic patterns. Yes, I can still make out the traffic patterns, but considering the age of the carpet, I am more than satisfied (this is not due to dirt, but rather to wear and tear on the actual carpet fibers).
They also cleaned two handmade Morocooan wool rugs, which turned out beautifully.
As a final touch, they raked the entire carpet area; when the nap is all pointed in the direction, it does look cleaner.
Professionalism: Little things (such as wearing booties, raising the furniture on foam and/or plastic pads to avoid damage to wooden legs). Big things: very explicit instructions about post-cleaning procedures.
I would definitely recommend this firm and these two cleaners, Matt and Tim, to anyone needing a thorough carpet and/or upholstery cleaning. I will be calling them againQ
Used the BBB to get companies that were in business in Colorado Springs at least 10 years. There were a load of companies from outside seeking business in my area because of the Waldo Canyon fire and many new companies. I wanted a company that did steam cleaning, which was reported to be recommended by carpet manufacturers. We had a chemcal cleaning last time and my wife did not like it. We reduced the list by cutting out all firms that had more than one complaint with the BBB in the last 3 years and which did not have and A rating on Angies List or had a very bad rating from a reviewer.
Stanley Steamer had one bad rating, but it related to petty theft, not thework, and other workers in the house could have done it.
They were among the oldest such firms in town.
Initial Contact
Getting an estimate and description of the methods used by Stanley Steamer was pleasant, easy and reliable. They were the low bidder, by quite a bit, of the four fims I contacted. We set up a date later and they came on time.
The Job
They did a great cleaning and this time my wife liked it vey much. Outfits that claimed to do more including flood fire and smoke recovery charged a lot more for the same job. I can not imagine a better cleaning job and they cost quited a bit less that all others we contacted.
