He sent his employee out and did the design on top of our current gravel. I approved the design, but told them I wanted it to match the current sidewalk. We also have an outdoor boiler that heats our house and I told them to keep clear of it. If they need to just move the sidewalk over there was plenty of room to do that. When I got home after the concrete was poured I could not believe the mess. They did not dig the sidewalk down onto the dirt. They just poured it on top of the gravel, so it sticks up 4 inches off the ground, they dug out to meet up with the old sidewalk, but then it goes up to meet the concrete they poured for the rest of the sidewalk. It also does this in two other spots that have to meet existing landscaping. Our boiler sits on a concrete slab and they poured it to close to the boiler and 4 inches above the slab it sits on. So the sidewalk he poured goes up and down like a roller coaster. Also, the concrete cracked within the first 24 hours. We live in Colorado and with our winters it won't last a season. We asked him to come out to the house so he could it we agreed that he would take it out and return our money and we should start the process to get our money back from Angie's List. He said he would be out the next week, he has never shown up and neither has our money.
Response from River Concrete
"good day [member name removed], first thing let me say I'm very disappointed that we had such a huge misunderstanding, when I talked to your husband, elevation was discussed, when I ask u to look at, and approve the forming work, you had given my guy your thumbs up(verbal).....maybe this is where I need to double check things. I have always been a hand shake kinda guy,and when you tell my formsetter everything looks good I assume I can proceed with my work. and again I do apologize for the misunderstanding, I know you want the concrete removed and I will be happy to do this, however you will need to work with me because of weather, my schedule is always a mess in the winter. also I did match your exiting walk and drive area with the new concrete, the crack that developed was a item that could be fixed very easily, unfortunately concrete will crack once in a while, it is just the nature of the product. again elevation and proximity to the boiler should have been addressed at the time of form inspection. thank you for your time."

Art is a fantastic and responsive contractor. I contacted him prior to purchasing the Angie's list Big Deal, and he came out immediately to see what I could get within the deal. His price was half of what I received from another contractor, and he was very flexible in how we could arrange the project. Once purchased, he got his guys out within a couple of days to form and prep the job, then as soon as weather allowed, he got the concrete poured. Although weather prevented immediate pouring, he kept in continuous contact with me, and I knew at all times what to expect. The results are fantastic, and Art is just a fabulous person to work with. I would absolutely recommend him for any concrete job. In fact, I plan to use him again when I get ready for a storage shed pad next summer. Also, his crew is top notch--professional, hard working and courteous.

Took advantage of an Angie's list deal for 100sf of concrete work for $699. As I found on other Angie's list deals the contractor was a little slow to follow up with me and set a firm appointment to look at the job and set a date to get started. I finally contacted River Concrete and once contacted they worked to meet me to set a date and get the job done. Once started the job was completed timely and with little mess or inconvenience. I marked them down in quality because a section of the new poured sidewalk was lower than the existing sidewalk and they ultimately had to come back and put down an epoxy coat to even up the section to ensure there was no tripping hazard, which they did without me having to ask. This epoxy skim coat is visible and hence the new sidewalk does not look perfectly poured. However, for the price it was a good job otherwise.

Took 2 weeks to get to me since he was busy- but once he started working with me it was done quickly. Entire project took 2 days. Owner of company works directly with his customers which is nice. Overall very happy.

Art was incredibly easy to work with. We discussed the project, set up a day/time to complete it, and went from there. The job was finished quickly and on budget, and looks great! I would definitely recommend River Concrete.

Art was able to get the work done for us quickly (within a week) and was one of the most affordable bids. The only other bid that was even close to the same price did not seem reliable and had awful Angieslist reviews. Originally we were going to have a much smaller patio poured but because of Art's reasonable pricing we were able to extend our plan to much bigger and get our dream patio. I would definitely recommend River Concrete to friends and family and I would use him again if I had a need.

We had our roof replaced due to a hail storm and the company that delivered our shingles drove off our driveway (first load of the day so extremely heavy) and cracked and broke several sections of the driveway. After a 2 month discussion it was time to replace our driveway -----WINTER TIME NOW.
After days of research on concrete and talking with family who knew about concrete: pouring, outside temperatures, type of concrete, additives, blanking vs hay, psi, set time, water freezing and more than I ever want to know about concrete - we met with Art Allen.
He did it right from the start to the finish - what he said, he did and on time. He and his crew were extremely professional and a pleasure to work with. We even had him do some additional work for us. We are extremely pleased with the entire job and he will return this spring to complete another concrete task. I would highly recommend Art - very knowledgeable - very professional and a true gentleman.

Art Allen was one of the nicest and most polite people you would want to work with. His estimate was the most reasonable for the services he provided. He laid out each project and had me check it before he poured the concrete. He made suggestions and if I didn't like something, he redid it. He kept me informed of his progress and his schedule which was important because we have dogs and they needed to be kept inside when he was working with the gate open. He made sure his workers cleaned up at the end of every day. After a portion of the concrete walkway cracked for unknown reasons, he tore it up and repoured it and added some reinforcements to ensure it wouldn't crack again if that was the problem. He also repaired some previous concrete work that was cracking or needed some cosmetic fixes to it (i.e. previous project included some post supports that were metal and embedded in concrete patio - after metal was ground down, Art was able to make it look nicer by applying a layer of material that covered up the remnants and rough concrete areas). He made sure on the driveway extension that he confirmed with the city that there was no problems with legal issues on property lines. Since the work was completed late in the season, he assured me if there were any questions or problems in the future to give him a call and he would guarantee his work if there were any further problems (i.e. any more cracking, etc.). Additionally, he did some other landscaping work that does not fit into this category, but it was also a top-notch job. Have already referred at least one person to him for their driveway work.

A fantastic job that resulted in making our run-down driveway look beautiful and much more functional. Art Allen owns the company and personally supervised the job to ensure that it was completed to his high standards. His employees were outstanding - very competent, polite, and punctual. We would definitely recommend River Concrete to anyone who needs cement work completed on their home!
