We had a large project in mind for our 1/5 acre lot and were terribly disappointed by many other companies who we asked to quote the project. Many other companies didn't listen to our requests or refused to quote us because the job was out of their scope or they didn't think we could afford the project we had envisioned for our yard. Joanne and Bill listened to our vision, came in with a reasonable quote, and designed our dream yard.
The monsoon rains we get around here, resulted in a tremendous amount of water coming through our property. As a result of water flowing through our yard, all existing retaining walls became unstable, some literally falling over. Personal Touch came in and took down all existing retaining walls. They regarded the land removing truck loads of dirt and built beautiful retaining walls across the property, along with other stunning landscape features. They also installed swales and underground drainage systems to ensure positive drainage away from the house.
Unfortunately, last year was a very wet spring which resulted in unforeseen delays and rework for their crew; however, this did not result in higher fees and Personal Touch stayed true to their quote. I would highly recommend Personal Touch Landscaping and Gardening.
"Thank you so much! We are very happy that you and your husband are pleased with your new landscape! It was so much fun working on your water feature and lighting project, and we love how it turned out! If you have any maintenance questions or would like plant recommendations for when the time comes, please let us know! We’d be more than happy to help! Have a wonderful day!"
"Good afternoon! We are glad to hear that you are enjoying your new landscaping! We are glad that we could overcome your drainage issues and rough terrain! Please let us know if you have any questions regarding your landscape or upcoming projects! Have a wonderful day!"
Quick to respond and always willing to help solve problems no matter if they did the original work.
We continue to use them in our yard and truly enjoy seeing their team in our yards weekly come rain or sun!
"Good Afternoon! Thank you for your feedback, (removed member name)! We very much appreciate your kind words and are happy that you are pleased with all of the work we've been doing for you and Prentice. We enjoy working with the two of you on your beautiful property, and we can't wait to see what the next phase of work will bring! Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you or your landscape! And again, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to let us know how we're doing. Have a wonderful evening!"
The long story is I hired Personal Touch to do a spring cleanup that was quite expensive (several thousand dollars). Initially, I found Joanne - who I presume is the owner - to be a very poor communicator. Of course, she was quick to take my deposit check, but she never even informed me when the services would be scheduled. I had to call a week after putting down a substantial deposit to even get a general time frame for the work to be completed. And then one day, they just showed up at my house. No advance notice, no confirmation, nothing. Very poor communication. But it gets worse.
The work they did was mediocre and incomplete. In a chain of emails that occurred before the work was started, I specifically asked for them to include mulching as part of the agreed-upon price. But when the crew finished, mulching had not been done. In writing, Joanne apologized and stated that she forgot. It was nice of her to admit fault, but she refused to send the crew back out to finish, even though she admitted that it was her fault. Instead, she insisted that I pay extra for them to finish, even though mulching was part of the original agreement. The whole time, she seemed more interested in having me hire them to do regular lawn maintenance than in correcting their error. This is either arrogance or stupidity. Why would I hire a company to do regular maintenance for me when they not only fail to provide the agreed-upon services, but when they also do nothing to rectify an error that was admittedly theirs? And it's not like this was just a verbal misunderstanding - all of this is documented in writing via email. I think it's more arrogance than stupidity - they think they can just do whatever they want and if they make a mistake, it's not up to them to correct their mistake or do right by the customer.
AVOID THIS COMPANY.
"Good Afternoon, We appreciate you voicing your concerns. We're sorry you feel that we didn't communicate with you adequately throughout your garden clean-up. We recognize that steady communication is vital for any project and we would like to apologize for any oversight on our part. We’ve tried to reach you via several unreturned voicemails and our string of emails, in which you asked us to provide a regular maintenance quote, to discuss the progress that was made during the clean-up and to rectify the situation by supplying and spreading the mulch on your property - which we've done today. We communicated on the last day that with the condition of the property, we were unable to clean it in its entirety within your fixed budget, and unfortunately there was a mistake regarding the priority and mulch. Thank you again for addressing your concerns, we do take all feedback into serious consideration and learn from it to provide each client with a better outcome. Please call us if you'd like to discuss this any further. Have a good day."

"Thank you very much for your feedback, [member name removed]! We have enjoyed building a relationship with you and your husband immensely over the past few years, and our gardeners are truly delighted with the time they spend caring for your gardens. We are very pleased to hear about your satisfaction with our landscape maintenance and Holiday decorating services! Please let us know if there is anything more we can do to make your year easier, such as snow removal service or incorporating Fall decor. Again, we appreciate your review and hope you have a fantastic day!"
"Hello [member name removed], and thank you for expressing your concerns. We are very sorry that we lost you and [member name removed] as clients after three years of service. We apologize for the misunderstanding about billing and all of the miscommunication that occurred though emails between you, your wife, and the business owners. A steady stream of communication is vital for any project, especially when you’re living out of town and when there’s a difference of opinion between the homeowners. Unfortunately, the ground was frozen when we tried removing the bit of potting soil that was discarded in the native area behind your home and that was why we offered to do it for you when the ground warmed up. We are very sorry you decided against that and did the work yourself, that was not our intention. The amount you asked us to pay you for removing the frozen soil was more than we charge for the same work performed, and as you know, we settled this financially through the credit card processing company. We are very sorry that you were left unsatisfied with the work performed on your property, and we would love to talk and see if we can rectify a working relationship with you. Again, thank you for expressing your concerns and we apologize for the misunderstanding. Have a wonderful day."
"Thank you very much for your feedback and consideration! You both are wonderful to work with, and we really appreciate your hospitality and patronage - we can't express that enough! It is working with clients like the two of you that reinforces our passion and commitment to attractive and sustainable landscaping, and high quality service. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you and your new landscape. Have a wonderful Holiday Season!"
In my vegetable area they put the water line right down the middle of the bed so I couldn't plant there. Ugh. When they came back out I asked them to move the line and they simply jerked it out and pulled it to the edge without burying it or moving / fixing the emitters.
I called them and they came back out and were unhappy that I had them add so many emitters. Then they wanted to charge me for coming back out!
I spend hours and hours adding, moving and fixing the emitters.
Today I had another company (Sprinkler World) come out to fix a leak and they found more emitters buried in the dirt and fixed them all. They were awesome.
I would not recommend Personal Touch Landscaping for Sprinkler System work to anyone. Maybe they are OK for actual landscaping and gardening, but I wouldn't know.
"Hello and thank you for your feedback! We apologize for any miscommunication regarding your drip system. We understand that a properly functioning irrigation and drip system is vital to the health of your plants and landscape. We are very sorry that were left unsatisfied with the work performed on your system. As you monitored the work and completed the final walk-through, we were under the impression that you were pleased with the outcome. After we had completed the contracted work, i.e., laying out the tubing and coming back out a couple of times to add emitters to the areas where your perennials would sprout out in the following weeks, we believe the miscommunication occurred over adding distribution tubing and emitters to your new plantings and flower pots you had added after the contracted work was complete. We apologize we didn't make it clear that additions outside of the contract would be an additional charge. Together, we agreed to demonstrate to you how to add distribution tubing and emitters for any new perennials that sprouted that we may have missed, and gave you tubing and emitters to do so, at your request. Again, we apologize about the miscommunication. We strive to ensure our clients are happy with their projects. Please contact us and speak with the business owners so that we may discuss this issue in further detail and do what we can to rectify the situation. Thank you for voicing your concerns, we appreciate your feedback! Have a wonderful day!"
"Good Afternoon [removed member name], Thank you for your review, we appreciate your feedback! We are very sorry about the misunderstanding over the rates for pruning. When approached, we understood your frustration with the miscommunication and so, we both agreed to only charge $27 per hour. Unfortunately the process to Bonsai an established shrub is a slow and comprehensive process, and we apologize for not stressing that enough when we discussed the process with you. We invite you to contact us and let us know if there anything else we can do for you to remedy this issue beyond the adjustments made to your final invoice. Again, thank you for your feedback and we apologize for the misunderstanding. Have a good day!"
