I contracted with Oops to finish, texture, and paint a 600 sq ft room, 3 car garage, and paint the main level of my home in the amount of $5500. He assured me that I would be happy with his work because he had impeccable attention to detail. He completed the work on 8 Nov 2012. The unsatisfactory work he and his crew performed on the home gym and garage area of my house was shocking. The wall texturing was sloppy and uneven on all the walls, with overspray covering many areas that should have been masked off with tape. One of these areas was the small plastic light fixture on the ceiling. This fixture was so completely coated, it was difficult to tell where the screws were. The light bulb was also covered with the texturizing spray. The contractor was asked to replace both the fixture and the light bulb, as this was not the condition he received the room in, and was unacceptable to leave it that way. There are also portions of the wall where the seams from the drywall stood out as a long seam in the wall. This was clearly visible, even with the texturing. Covering the uneven texturing was one thin coat of dark gray paint, which left slivers of white showing through because the coverage was not thick enough. The texture was sloppy, uneven, and had large drips throughout the space. None of these issues were difficult to spot upon entering the room. He even cut the carpet down the middle and the pattern was opposite one another. The same paint and texturizing issues were throughout the garage. The dust and dirt was unbelievable, he had not cleaned up after himself at all. The contractor was asked if they could be fixed. He assured me that they could, and would; it was just a matter of having the time to do so. He asked me to contact his wife for scheduling the repairs. He told me that he had underbid the contract to get it, and as a result, actually lost money on the project. I told him that was not an issue as it was a firm fixed price contract and he even asked for an additional $700 midway through the project and I agreed. He should have known how much it would actually cost, and should have bid accordingly. He also tried to blame me for the substandard work. All agreements were bilateral and this claim was absurd. I told him that he was just making excuses for poor work quality. He had stated that he would have done whatever it took to complete the room to my specifications. After the first walkthrough, Will agreed that there were issues, and told me no matter how many times they had to come back, it would be fixed to my satisfaction. They came back to address the issues on 25-26 Nov 2012. The area had not been repainted or retextured to even the surfaces, as was promised. The room looked as if no work had been accomplished on it. They did replace the light bulb and fixture, but there were no other changes that I could visibly see. It was still incredibly sloppy work. When I expressed my dissatisfaction again, the blame was once again pushed to me and his sub-contractor as the root of the problem. I was verbally accosted by him and his partner Tom and his aggressive behavior scared me. He took no responsibility for the job he had bid on and refused to fix the still outstanding problems.
I told the owner / worker on the day of the job that I could not be home until 3:00 pm. He was waiting for me, remembered the room where the air conditioner needed to be removed, and got right to work. He was done in less than 10 minutes, including stashing the air conditioner in the closet. The owner was patient enough to answer a few questions about front door security and made a suggestion of which I had not thought. Cool! Again he headed out the door in an effecient manner after he answered my last question. It was a quick, enjoyable 15 minutes total that he was in my house.
"In response to this ridiculous report, CONTRACTORS BEWARE!!! and "I" rate this costumer an F+, as one of the worst costumers I ever had to work for! My significant others purpose for being there was to keep the member from micro managing my every move, As for the cut tiles, that is due to her being incapable of keeping on task with what she originally wanted as per our discussion, the materials she provided for the job was all second hand junk! But never the less the job came out beautiful I have the pictures and testimonials that prove other wise."
