Mountaineer Woodworks

About us

I have 16 years experience in the construction trades, specializing in interior trim and hand rails. I operate mostly by myself or with a helper occasionally. I use subcontractors particularly when a customer wants a large project completed but has little time to manage several trades or people to finish a project. I offer free estimates and consultations on most projects. I have price menus available upon request. Trip fees are incurred when there may be a problem that requires troubleshooting before repair. These fees are then applied as credit if the customer wishes to use my services to make the repair. I can offer a 10% discount to Angie's list members on any written estimate. I am fully insured and have current local references. Most work is fully warrantied for a period of no less than 12 months from time of completion. I also offer wholesale prices on materials when ever possible.

Project went very well. While it took a bit more time than expected, I had no problem with it because there was good attention to detail, and Dave was able to fit in this project in the midst of larger projects he needed to work on. When painting didn't work out as well as hoped, he hired a painter to do a professional job at no additional cost. Dave also corrected some of the issues I created when I installed the door, which was refreshing he was able to get it more correct. The finish job (trim, mud work, drywall, paint) looks as if it was installed with the rest of the surrounding area, which is perfect! Dave was friendly and professional, would hire again.

Not well.  He didn't understand the design or follow the design instructions that were given.  Quality of material was subpar.  When it came to finishing and painting the  stain was not wiped off properly (too dark and splotchy) and paint was slopped on; the slats were all stuck together and of poor quality.  My husband and I spent the entire weekend sanding off all of the old stain and redoing the rails ourselves.  When we refused the first set of balusters, he brought a second set, which were a little better, but still required my husband I to apply another coat of polyurethane.
Response from Mountaineer Woodworks
"First off, this review has been written 2 1/2 years after work was COMPLETED. Customer did not give an opportunity for me to correct any issues. Customers verbal instructions were mixed and were spoken at an extremely high rate of speed. Customer was satisfied after some corrections were made by me and some by themselves (but did not notify me of work they did until I showed up the next day on the job) and paid me and after work was completed and even asked me for estimates on more work. I would have been happy to replace any defective material or restain, but there again was not notified of such an issue until the next work day. Customer was not happy with the color, so they took it upon themselves to sand and restain. All material was purchased from a trim supplier of higher quality than box stores and I possess the receipts to prove that."
