Mike stayed within budget which was important to me. All change orders were documented and the accounting was up to date.
I would recommend ML Restorations to anyone considering a remodel.
ML Restorations promptly called me back and met me at the house a few days later. He was professional, polite and respectful of my home. He took detailed notes about my request and full measurements of the floor, walls, shower stale etc. Second, great impression. A few days later he emailed an itemized, detailed bid including projected timeline for each step of the project.. I got busy with work and didn't respond for a few days. He kindly called me, followed up with the bid, asked if I had questions. Third, great impression. I then decided, I'm going to use this guy.
He connected me with a wholesale contractor parts store, saved me a ton of money on fixtures and plumbing supplies. He started the project on-time, on the day we agreed. He began with lying paper on the floor from the front door to bathrooms and put cloth over furniture to minimize the the impact of dust. I immediately felt like he cared about my house. Forth, great impression.
The project continues as you would hope with minimal bumps. A few minor issues with cabinets or tile supplier, but Mike was the first to tell me and was there to advocate for me. This is why I could not of done this without a general contractor like Mike. He was there to tell me in person, text or voicemail. And most importantly, he had a solution for any "problem".
Three weeks later, I have the bathrooms I wanted for the agreed upon price. The bathrooms are beautiful and I couldn't be happier.
Thanks Mike !
Michael, of ML Restorations made an appointment and arrived on time to do the work. He removed our door and sanded it down to the bare wood. He then stained it, allowed it to dry and applied the finish/varnish. This all took about four hours--plus final drying time.
The result was marvelous! It looks like a brand new door--color is perfect. I would definitely recommend ML Restorations for anyone who need refinishing work. In fact, I have signed up for their follow-up maintenance service for the door.
Due to the chemicals used and the mess made, he should have taken the door to a place where the dust and debris would not matter. I suspect he didn't want to have to take the door down the steps. His attitude was grumpy and he was not very friendly. There were other companies I could have chosen, and his was the most expensive, as I figured I'd get the best job. I would not recommend DL Restorations.
We have ornamental wrought iron mounted on a wood door and were especially concerned about the paint finish. Michael did a great job painting the metal and it now looks like new.
Additionally, the interior of our door was damaged, and Michael helped us to determine the best way to fix it.
Michael is experienced and has great communication skills. He explained in detail every step of the process, was punctual, and was easy to work with.
I highly recommend ML Restorations and would definitely do business with them again.
The Good: The baseboards, window frames and bedroom doors were stained and finished well. Michael and his helper even came back FOR FREE when the painter who followed them on the job a week later accidentally removed the shiny finish from the woodwork with his painter's tape. Michael fixed the shiny finish. I was so very happy. They also installed a small piece of trim downstairs at NO CHARGE. They worked very hard and it isn't easy work. I was pleased.
The Not-So-Good: Michael and his helper refinished my antique front door which has a beveled glass front. I thought they splashed stain on the glass when I saw the finished product and that they just didn't remove the stain. Today, I tried to clean off the "splashes of stain" and saw they were deep scratches in the glass that range from 1-1/2" TO 1/4" . There are about 15 scratches, and they are very noticeable. Why didn't they protect the glass??? I am sad because these can't be fixed that I'm aware of. I guess Michael or his helper hit the glass with the sander. ???
In addition, they splashed denatured alcohol on my antique marble topped dresser. Michael was able to buff the etching out so the spots weren't noticeable. After they left I saw they also splashed denatured alcohol on the side of this same dresser and I will have to touch it up, but it isn't too bad.
Michael's helper also helped himself to the tweezers in my medicine cabinet without asking. (I overheard him through the wall telling Michael he had a splinter.) I use these tweezers on a daily basis and found them in the bedroom where they'd been working. I would have been glad to give his helper tweezers, but he shouldn't have helped himself.
I also found the helper unexpectedly in my backyard beside my shed on the side away from my house. When I asked him what he was doing there, he said he was taking a leak, but he'd used the indoor bathroom previously so I thought that was odd. I store 4 or 5 garbage cans on that side of my shed that contain garden clothes, plant blankets and electrical extension cords and I noticed one had been opened, but nothing was missing.
The glass on the French doors was also not covered when the wood was refinished so I've spent a significant amount of time with alcohol and Windex trying to remove the stain from the glass on both sides.--It's a lot of work.
Michael is a likeable guy and a hard worker. I'm sad this is a mixed review. I didn't want to leave a mixed review.
"[member name removed], I do not understand why this was not communicated to me before this review? ML Restorations is very mindful of every aspect of the projects we perform, and had I been aware of the "not-so-goods" I would have personally rectified any problems. A company is only as good as it's employees and Chad has been let go, but I take direct responsibility for any mishaps. Please accept my sincere apologies for the actions of my employee, and for my neglect in monitoring the project activities."
He arrived exactly when he promised, repeated what he would do, and got to work.
His team sanded the door, reattached it to the hinges, applied the stain to match the interior portion of the door and, after it dried, applied the final sealant (mixed with a bit of stain to further darken the door). They reattached the lock/handle hardware.
They also attached a new rubber seal on the bottom.
After finishing, Michael was clear that the door would be tight for a while, but after a few days, the door is fine.
One small note: after reattaching the door handle, one bolt was re-threaded and wasn't tightened down. I didn't noticed this until the following day. It took a little wrestling to get the bolt cut down to where I could tighten it down, but this is just a reminder (to myself as well as others) to be sure and inspect all aspects of the job.
Michael and his team (one other person) were very personable and professional, did exactly what they said they would, and cleaned up pretty well.
I would definitely use this provider again in the future.
Our insurance co. contacted ML Restorations and they responded by phone immediately. They provided an ETA of about 1 hour but took about 3 hours to arrive due to mechanical difficulties.
The crew was extremely polite and considerate. They quickly went to work assessing and locating any affected areas. They removed sections of carpet, ceiling, and wall. They cleaned the crawl space. Although they seemed young and untrained, they were quick and efficient. I was surprised that they did not use gloves, masks, or any other protective gear.
Their supervisor stopped in right before they left to check my level of satisfaction of their work. He was polite and professional.
They left drying equipment to run for a few days. I don't remember exactly how many, but I remember they left it 1 more day than they had estimated, without coming back to physically check the status.
I indicated in this review that I would use them again since my insurance co., which I love, chose them. I did not research or make any comparisons for other companies that do the same type of work.
"This review is for the wrong company we do not do Mold mediation, and we did not do any work for Mr. Pogson. Please correct this post to the proper company which actually rendered services to [member name removed]. Thank you."
