Mr. John Carney from JMJ Maintenance installed a double wall oven on November 2, 2012. We paid him $180. The oven failed in February 2014. When a Sears technician came out to fix the oven, he said the installer had not put the wires in a junction box according to code (and according to the instructions on the oven). (He put this information on his receipt as well.) I called Mr. Carney and he said "I don't have to put it in a box...that's the way I've done it for over 20 years." I then hired an electrician to properly install the oven with the wires in a junction box. The electrician and the Sears technician both said Mr. Carney's installation was not according to code and was a fire hazard. I then contacted Mr. Carney by phone and asked him for a refund because he had not properly installed the oven. He asked me to send pictures of the exposed wires. After I sent the pictures proving the wires were not in a junction box, he sent me an Email replying, "Well can tell you right now you're not getting a full refund for the oven install. Hooking up the electrical was just a small part of the cutting I had to do to install your wall oven and the two-man labor. And if it had to be wired differently than it was you would've still ended up having to pay the electrician what you paid the electrician to do so. That wall oven was installed the same way the original was installed." Two minutes later he sent an additional Email stating, "Oven was installed functioning properly no issues the way I install the oven cause no issues there will be no refund." I then contacted the Better Business Bureau to report JMJ Maintenance. Mr. Carney once again stated "I installed the oven properly." I then sent a reply saying I had two experts (Sears and electrician) vouch for the fact the wires were not properly installed in a juction box. Mr. Carney then replied that he had indeed installed the wires in a junction box and that he wasn't going to provide a refund. It concerns me that Mr. Carney is willing to lie about his installation to save $180. It also concerns me that this dishonest businessman has probably installed multiple ovens with the wiring exposed, creating a potential fire hazard.
