Our cumulative jobs ran up to around $20K.
Extremely large concrete deck / balcony and patio painted in 2011 with Epoxacryl from Superdeck. Deck finish failed before 2012, failed in 2012, and then failed again 2013. Finish bubbling and peeling. Thought was it was applied when too cold. Unseth sent someone out (Foy -- their best guy) to deal with the initial bubbling, but the repair looked really bad as the layers built up differently between the missing material and non-missing material, and color was different. Pock marks, color mismatch. No returned calls or responses to emails.
I called Superdeck, and they said the only way this kind of failure happens is if the painters did not pre-etch the concrete. I remember them power washing it. Superdeck said power washing not enough to prep surface. Now we have ongoing maintenance on what was supposed to be a no-low maintenance finish, and it doesn't look good. Not happy. Superdeck says now needs to be chemically stripped (methyl chloride), etched, refinished! Really not happy.
I think that generally they are a pretty good company, but the deck experience, and one other experience, was not very good.
the and quot;but or howeverand quot;. As a long time customer of this company (since 1995), I've observed the customer service slip. In my opinion it may be a result of becoming and quot;too successfuland quot;. It appears that by far farming out the project to sub contractors / companies, the communication between these entities could be better. At times I sensed there was confusion as to who should complete what, and how to complete. I had to call at least 3 times, to be filled in on the and quot;planand quot;. Maybe as a long time customer, I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and and quot;cut them some slackand quot;. A new customer may not be so forgiving.
My advise for them is to go back to their and quot;rootsand quot;, and remember the customers who made them successful in the first place.
included. The job was to take three days. Four guys came, and the job with ONE coat of paint was completed in a day and a half. Had I known the terrible, terrible mess the spraying would create, I would have skipped it and saved $1120! It literally took me 10 days to get my home clean. There was overspray on my new hardwood floors and some on my new carpet. I noted places that were missed. I called back and someone came to fix most of them. The last day they were in a hurry to leave and did not inspect their work or clean the painting mess.
Everyone who works for the company is related to Greg. The crew was very pleasant, especially one person.
It is now over two months since The work was done. It STILL is not right, and Greg is not only hard to get in touch with, but he does not follow through on setting a date for the work to be corrected. My punch list is two pages!
I will be asking for a partial refund.
They did the job through a third party contractor but the work was guaranteed for 5 years through Greg Unseth. When I talked to their contractor who did the work at my home and asked them for a rough estimate - similar house, they told us that, it would be around $2000-$2250 (with 5 year warranty). That quote was approximately $1250 lower than we paid. In Colorado Springs, check for Valpak or similar coupon books for $100-$500 off coupons.
We were very satisfied with the work, but feel paid too much.
