Dec 2015
December 2015: GYC, Got You Covered Flooring & Cabinets, uses several addresses. Timothy Juvera is the owner. Nice guy, friendly and easy-going while discussing the job. The positive comments end there! After his first day on the job I came home to a gouged refrigerator! Never mentioned it. He and workers were gone when I got home, I called him. He didn’t deny and said “I (meaning him) probably did it!” He agreed to repair it and later presented me with options. The whining began as he complained about HIS insurance deductible and our 3 yr old refrigerator. He was doing his best to make this my problem. I ended up agreeing to let him remove the manufacturer’s sticker from one location and to cover the gouge with it. Not what I wanted but tried to extend good faith and not let this interfere with the job/relationship. Over the next few days I had to ask him to not park in my driveway because his van was leaking oil all over. Then had to ask him to place something on the floor under the stove in order to stop scratching our wood floors when he moved the stove around. Significant etching that he apparently was oblivious to! When he began to cut floor tiles in our driveway just outside our garage doors (I’m a work), I ended up having to ask him after a couple days to close the garage doors in order to keep the tile dust from covering everything in our garage, which doubles as home storage. He looked at me incredulously and said, “it’s just a garage!” The tile dust was all over our household goods. Never dawned on him that this might be unacceptable! Never cleaned anything. In the first week I had to address all those things. I would have never expected these kinds of issues with a grown man running his own business and who should be caring for his customer’s property! Eventually he let it be known that he felt that I was picking on him by addressing these things! It continued going downhill! The following is a very partial list of things in no special order that continued over 17 days. He rarely worked an entire day. I already know some of these are hard to believe, but this is a truthful accounting of what went down. ONE: After initially telling us that we would always have one fully working bathroom at all times, early on we had no access to any of three bathroom sinks for days forcing us to use the kitchen sink. We never had a fully functioning bathroom available to us at any time because they were all under some form of construction for the entire time. TWO: While his request seemed odd, (with the exception of the granite), he asked us to pick up virtually all of the material, including many boxes of heavy tile that were needed for the job, he telling us the amounts needed. He ran out of floor tile during the job and asked us to go get more, which we did, as well as pay for it. THREE: He later ran out of back-splash. But instead of informing us that he needed more (we were home when this happened), he shorted the job at the end of the run by a full two inches! Then left for the day but didn’t say anything, like we wouldn’t notice! We ended up making another trip to get more backsplash and informed him he had to undo the end to add the additional amount to where it would look right! Again, leaving me to point this out! FOUR: While admiring our new granite top counters in the kitchen we happen to notice that there were some stains and scratches in one area. Naturally being very concerned, I bring it to Tim’s attention. His indifference was, “you can only see the stains if you’re looking at it at just the right angle!” Excuse me! I swear, that is exactly what he said! Apparently, I had no right to look it at such an angle! We weren’t even looking for stains or scratches in the first place! He said he’d work on cleaning it up. While he may have smoothed out some of the scratches, he never removed all the stains! The stains are still visible! FIVE: We have large wall mirrors above the counters in all three bathrooms. As you would expect, the bottoms sit flush on top of the bathroom counters. He finished setting all three of the counter tops uneven with the bottoms of the mirrors which were already hung! The gaps went up to ¾+”! Not only shocking that he did it, but completely shocking that he would also allow the glue to set the granite like that, as though no one would notice! No shims?! It’s not even like all three of them were somehow set simultaneously. He had to do them one at a time! This is completely unexplainable! It looked like crap! Once again, he has to be told that this is not acceptable, and cannot leave it that way! Another confrontation with him and he offers a remedy on how to fix it. Now, like one of his ideas to fix the refrigerator gouge by removing the door and taking it to an auto body shop to take the dent out because it would cost him so much due to his high deductible, and thereby shutting our refrigerator down for days, he says he’ll have to break the granite top off the counter base on all three, shim and square them. Of course, he stated that there’s “risk in doing that!” By now I did not trust that he could successfully do this without destroying the counters or something else even though that’s what should have been done! We agreed to have him frame the mirrors in as the most viable option, despite not liking it. In order for us to choose the wood, it was now necessary for us to make our third unscheduled trip to Lowes to select the wood (and pay for it) that he would frame the mirrors with to hide the gap above the granite. We purchased enough to frame our two main level bathrooms. On the lower level bathroom, he said he could glue a small piece of wood that would look okay to hide that gap. That ended up looking like Joe Homeowner took a shot at it! While better than an uneven gap, it ended up looking cheesy and unprofessional! The two mirrors that were framed show glue inside the mirrors where the frames meet the glass. Not looking tidy! SIX: Prior to beginning the job I specifically discussed with him if he was skilled and able to repair the ceilings in two bathrooms around the ceiling fans, including cutting away damaged drywall in one of the bathrooms and installing new drywall, and being able to match the repaired ceilings near the exhaust fan with the style of the surrounding ceiling. He assured me with certainty he could. But, he did not, he failed, didn’t even come close! He plastered over the damaged drywall. After the THIRD time doing it unsatisfactorily, he said, to my amazement, “no one (beside me) will ever notice that repair because no one will ever look up at the ceiling!” Yes, he did say that! It looked like crap and I paid someone else to come and repair it a few months later! SEVEN: As per the contract, “Remove and reset the baseboard…” for installing the floor tile. This would have been to remove the baseboard before lifting the old floor out, installing the new tile, and grouting before resetting the baseboard. Out of three bathrooms he only removed one piece of baseboard of less than three feet in length! That shortcut has left thick grout where much of the remaining baseboard and tile meet throughout three bathrooms! Sloppy and unprofessional! He spent 17 days on the job! I’m reminded of him every time I’m in any of the bathrooms! EIGHT: After noticing grout lines that appeared very shallow in the tile I asked if he could fill them in a bit more. I told him that I noticed many places where the tile corners were very exposed and that I was concerned someone might be injured, besides the possibility of the grout cracking. He said he saw where some areas were shallow and would fill those in before sealing the tile. Then went on to tell me that he is “certified in grout application” and that he is a “consultant for the Handyman Company!” Really?! I guess that was to put me and my irrational fears to rest. OTHER: His caulking and grouting left a lot to be desired. He didn’t clean the corners, nor clean out debris between the walls and granite tops prior to caulking. Grouting is sloppy with grout and residue stuck on

When I had tried to purchase the Deal it incorrectly stated that it was sold out, so I called them and explained the situation. He would honor the promotion for me. He went above and beyond. His professionalism is incredible. His honesty is amazing. We have called him back.
