needless to say I was very hacked, but Goetzmann's contract is designed to protect him and not you. The contract allowed him to keep all the deposit, if I backed out of deal. Arbitration was allowed but they selected who the judge would be. The color choices we had put in the home were universally appealing in case we wanted to sell it. And the builder promptly turned around and sold the house to someone else.
After finally moving out here 3 years later and getting another home, I would say that Goetzmann prices are higher than the quality that he puts in.
We requested some upgrades and they were quite expensive. But we thought this was just consistent with building a home in Colorado. The base price included quartz countertops instead of granite, the baths had formica instead of solid surface, the master shower was a 3'x3' square, fireplaces were extra, any stone was extra. The furnace and hot water heater were builder level quality. I had asked if he could put acrylic in the stucco exterior to make it stronger but changed my mind when he said it would be $20,000 extra. The actual workmanship of the house is probably ok and to be honest, this was when housing in Colorado Springs was at peak cost(2006). But I still say he made $5000 the easy way.

It was probably the best experience I have had with a builder, or anybody of that type; and I had done a lot of home remodeling before the fire. This guy was just outstanding. Working with him was a great experience; I just took possession of the home. The experience was fantastic; they were on schedule, all the planning stuff was right on the money from their initial projection dates through the entire process. The quality of their work is outstanding. They used excellent subcontractors and had good communication; it could not have gone better. They had great customer service.
