BLUF: 0 STARS!! Freedom Honda, Colorado Springs, CO is a business with zero integrity and mechanics who cannot competently and safely perform simple automotive services. Do not use their service center for any services! DETAILS: Freedom Honda serviced our 2000 Honda CR-V (174,000 miles) on 21 Dec 2017—a simple oil and filter change. As my son was driving on I-25N on 22 Dec 2017, the first drive in the vehicle since the service (other than the one mile return trip to his apartment), within 40 miles smoke began billowing from the engine compartment and into the CR-V interior, creating a driving emergency. After exiting the interstate and calling me (his dad) to help determine the seriousness of the situation, we discovered the oil dipstick and tube out of the engine block and dangling between the block and manifold exhaust heat shield. Obviously, the supposed Honda ASE-certified mechanic had made a major mistake during the oil and filter change, and instead of fixing his/her mistake immediately, chose the dishonest approach of doing nothing, which could have resulted in irreparable damage to our CR-V engine and a life-threatening traffic situation for my son. After many hours of implementing a temporary repair and returning 2X to Freedom Honda for a permanent repair, the end result is extremely dissatisfied customers who will never conduct business with Freedom Honda, nor can we trust their final repair to be a good repair. The Service Director, Dan Moran, was rude and unwillingly to compensate my son, an independent contractor, for his 2 hours of lost wages (missed an appointment with a client in Castle Rock) and our combined round-trip mileages of 185 miles resulting from this Freedom Honda fiasco and cover-up. Mr. Moran also concocted a multitude of excuses for his service center--such behavior is inexcusable, unprofessional, and unacceptable!

They could not find out what it was and the issue went away. They did spend time checking everything though. They worked with me on the pricing too; they repaired my brakes and add the diagnostic fee to that charge. They had a shuttle service so that made is convenient for me. I dropped my car off and they took me to work. I have used them in the past and I would use them again.

I actually am quite unhappy with their service department. I brought my vehicle in for a diagnostic on a check engine light. It took almost 4 hours and $120 to get to it. Then the report was and quot;420and quot; and I was told I would need to replace one of the catalytic converters, with a repair cost of $790. They did offer to apply the cost of the diagnosis to the repair. I scheduled that repair and then went to Brakes Plus to get a verification. (Two weeks ago Brakes Plus replaced my brake pads for less than half the cost I was quoted from the Freedom Honda service department.) It took the Brakes Plus manager exactly 3 minutes to hook in and get the very same 420 diagnosis I had just paid $120 for (Before he hooked in he said, and quot;I bet they said 420.and quot;). He asked what kind of gas I was using (the cheap gas), which no one at the dealership asked. He charged me nothing for the diagnosis and suggested that before I pay for a new catalytic converter that I run about 3 tanks of premium gas through the engine and see if the light comes back on (he turned it off for me).
The bottom line is this: I feel like the Freedom Honda service people cheated me out of $120 and 4 hours of my time, and were scaring me into spending money for a repair that may not be necessary (When I asked if I could wait to do the repair, the service tech said, and quot;Well that's a risk. You're really rolling the dice.and quot; This approach is unacceptable and gives their service department--and by association their entire organization--a justifiably bad name.

"Dear [member name removed], Thank you for taking the time to bring your issues to me. Our standard diagnosis charge is $120.00 which covers up to 1 full hour of time for the technicians to perform whatever diagnostic tests are needed. I apologize about the wait time. We have been extremely busy this summer. The estimate of $790.00 sounds accurate for a catalytic converter. The actual catalyst material contains platinum and other precious materials which are quite expensive. The P420 code that was retrieved from your vehicle means that the catalytic converter was below threshold (not operating at proper temperature to burn off remaining exhaust gasses). I am disheartened that another repair facility would tell you that simply running premium fuel would eliminate your issue. This codes occurs when the catalyst is not operating to spec which is a result of the minerals and chemicals in the converter being used up over the 160,000+ miles the vehicle has been driven. I am confident that you will see the light come on as you continue to drive regardless of what fuel is being used. Scare tactics are not used here. If you do not repair this issue there are 2 concerns. First, damage could be done to the oxygen sensors due to the increased fuel quantity in the exhaust gasses. Second, if something more major would happen, you would not know as the check engine light would already be illuminated due to the catalytic converter issue. Our offer stands as far as crediting the diagnosis towards the repairs should you decide to have that completed. I hope I have answered your questions and concerns. Service went well. Pleased that they retuned my calls quickly and kept me up to date about schedule. I had coupons to make the cost more bearable. They did not give me grief about the coupons. The service was always pleasant and never condescending. One small issue was the upholstery was solid from the technician being inside the vehicle to repair interior. It would have been better if they observed this and cleaned it before I had to ask. They quickly cleaned the solid area.
The customer interface team did well. If they do not wash the car because of freezing temperatures they do not vacuum it either. A nice service when it occurs. I will have to wait and see if all works well for a few weeks. They offer drop offs and pickups for extened work. Their billing statements are not easy to fully understand. When I ask for an explanation the person spent the time willingly. I’ve been at dealerships where they become condescending when I had difficultly understanding the bill -- not so at Freedom Honda. Must keep in mind every person is different. Training is important.

Update to previous review........

This is and up date to my previous review for Freedom Honda. After checking my oil and windshield fluid I noticed that the carburetor to air cleaner flex boot was damaged (torn). I’m familiar with the engine compartment and this wasn’t damaged prior to the extensive work I had done in February. I called the Freedom Honda service and explained what I saw. I brought my vehicle in so the service manager could see what I was talking about. They ask the original service technician who did my previous service to observe my complaint. The technician said the boot was damaged before he did the service. This did not make sense since this is the first time the area was dissembled for this car. I do remember observing this area frequently prior to my February service and it was not damage. I explained to the service manager that I saw a pattern of things done and not told to me. The first was the interior was solid because of some interior service done and now the flex boot was damage. At this point I had lost confidence in trusting my vehicle for service. My fear was the vehicle could be sabotaged without me knowing to get even with making a complaint . To the credit of the service manger she said they would replace the flex boot at no cost to me. I do appreciate their willingness to do this but I’m still experiencing a lack of trust. The solution for me is to request another technician to service my vehicle. When they replaced the flex boot I asked to see the old boot. It was torn more the 80% around the shoulder and it ws not dry rotted. My experience is the management interface with the customer is great but the behind the scene work may be dubious.

Our experience with this Dealership was one of constant contradictions
and changing of promises.
Not only was I given a price for the used car that I was considering that was then raised-even though I'd already taken the car based on this price, to have checked out by my mechanic- but I was also told by the General Manager (Rob) that it did not matter what the sales managers told me (for pricing) because what he says “trumps” what they say. He would not approve the pricing they had verbally given me anyway, as it turned out.
Make sure to get everything in writing up front-before you go too far-because you cannot trust what they say.
