Timely and thorough free estimate. Good value out of 7 other local companies. Answered all my questions to my satisfaction. Nothing hidden. Painting was professional and timely. They ran into staff issues in the end which made wrap up untimely and lacked any professional final walk through of project.

The booking was tricky. It took 3 tries to get an appointment for an estimate. The painter had a problem with taking off the wallpaper. When he finally finished, there was paint left on my kitchen cabinets, handles and did not put the switch plates back on. I had to call his supervisor to come clean up. And I still have two switch plates to put back on.

Exterior Painting
Five Star painted a portion of the exterior of our church, which involved mostly stucco painting with Sherlastic and some trim painting and included some very high, difficult to reach areas. They did an excellent job, including recoating some areas they were not satisfied with without being asked to do so. Their price was very reasonable. They showed up when they said they would, completed the job when they said they would and were very easy to work with.

The Five Star Team was wonderful from start to finish. The estimator eyeballed the linear footage of our trim and came within a few feet of my measured footage (accuracy - so we weren't overcharged). We paid for the cost of the paint used (not the estimated cost). The estimator estimated the cost a bit high (on purpose) after which the foreman purchased it on an as-needed basis (looking out for us so not to overcharge). The painting team showed up when they said they would (punctuality). From the foreman to the painters there was an "I can do that or I can fix that attitude". The paint job was precise and not in the least sloppy. All areas were protected from any possible over-spray situations. One mistake was made and the painters acknowledged it was their error and fixed it. I would gladly have this team paint something else for me - inside or outside.

There was a situation initially with matching the color of the existing trim. Our estimator, Chuck, informed the owner, Mark Lambert, immediately. Mark arrived on the premises and recognized that there was a color match incongruity and told me that he would fix it. Two days later everything was repainted and he actually delighted me by throwing in a couple downspouts and a exterior door to the shop...at no extra cost! We have used 5 Star for other homes and rentals and have never been disappointed. Mark is a Veteran, and as a Veteran myself, I cannot imagine working with anyone else. His professionalism is above and beyond!

Their 3 guys showed up 20 minutes late and arrived without paint that had been pre-coordinated. They did an excellent job protecting the carpet, hardwoods, tile, furniture and cabinets. The person who provided the quote and scheduled the painters showed up a couple hours into the job to see if I had any questions. At the time I did not. I left for work in the afternoon. They finished the whole job in 1 day which I was happy with, but they left some cleanup for us consisting of a little tape and plastic around the cabinets. However, the bigger issue I had was that they painted over some areas I would have liked to seen patched before painting. These were small areas. One was a spot where we removed an old alarm system panel and the paint behind it came off with the panel leaving the drywall paper exposed (It was maybe 5" x 4") that just needed a quick sand and texture since I had already roughly applied DAP DryDex and let it dry over that area. The other spot was a hole left by a door knob lock which they partially filled but did not texture before painting so now it just looks like a smooth 1" dent in the wall. I thought fixing these areas were part of the contract but after reading the contract again, I noticed it said they would only make small repairs for nail holes. I still feel like this question should have been asked when the painters arrived to do the job. They asked me about every other aspect of the job, and one of them did leave to get paint so if they were not going to take the 15 minutes to make these simple repairs that obviously needed to be done, it should have been clarified. It's my mistake for assuming those repairs would be done for this job that was more than $2k. Ultimately the price was fine and right in line with the competition and the painting itself was fine. But the timeliness, preparedness, and final product left something to be desired and they weren't so cheap that it would be something I would overlook. I did briefly bring up the issue with Five Star before paying them. I didn't push for any kind of a discount since I also pointed out that I re-read the contract and noticed these small repairs were not part of the deal. But again, c'mon. If you want to call yourself "Fvie Star" and want good reviews this isn't the kind of finished job a professional should be OK with.

Wow, from start, to finish I felt that I was a priority to Sarah and Oscar (and his team). Upon meeting with Sarah Beaubien, I felt confident that she knew what we wanted done. She took accurate measurements, so there wouldn't be any surprise extra charges when the painters came. Her knowledge of color schemes, helped us to pick a neutral color for the main room, and a pretty accent color to highlight the art in the room. The painters came at the designated time (i.e., not late!!), and I cannot say enough how wonderful they were to work with. Their professionalism, and attention to detail, surpassed my OCD-ness. I couldn't find a flaw, ANYWHERE. (Trust me, I looked!!) Oscar even went the extra mile for me, and hung 2 paintings for me!!!! Where else can you find such expertise?? They laid plastic covering all the floor, and railing for the stairs. When the job was finished, to their satisfaction, they had me look things over, and if there WAS anything that needed touching up, they would have done it. When they left, they took EVERY piece of garbage with them. My house showed no signs of workers being there all day....other than BEAUTIFUL walls and the accent wall was an awesome color (thanks Sarah for the suggestion!!!) I would definitely use them again. In fact, when we are ready to get rid of the hideous yellow basement, I'm not going to get bids. I'm calling 5 Star Painting, because I trust completely that they will make things perfect. (Look at the pictures, see if you can find the repairs...you can't, it was done that well.) Marie and Bill
