We noticed the house was being built incorrectly and brought it to their attention. They initially offered to fix it but we were to pay for half their mistake! Once we cancelled then the next day they offered to fix it, but by that time we were totally fed up and just wanted them out of our lives. Ended up going through the mediation and arbitration process and the court ruled in their favor, but not because of the impression they are giving. In the contract we signed on one page it addressed giving notification for problems. Way over on another page of the contract it stated that notification had to be via Fed X, UPS or fax. We emailed them. If the method of notification was that important wouldn't they be in the same area of the contract? Sure it would. The Arbitrator chose not to address the fact that they admitted 1) they were building it incorrectly and 2) received our notification. He decided it was more important to address that we hadn't used Fed X or UPS to deliver that notification to them. Minor in comparison to building it wrong. To add to that, their contract states they are to be paid the full profit as though they built the house from beginning to end. So we had to pay them $120K and all we have is a concrete foundation. Then they came after us for $176K in attorney's fees which were probably already paid by their insurance. This nightmare started Dec 2014. Our house sat rotting while we waited to go to mediation and then arbitration which didn't end until Feb 2016. Then we ended up filing bankruptcy because Copperleaf wanted almost $300K as previously mentioned. It will be 5 years before we can build which will be a 7 year delay at that point. What kind of company treats their customers like this? Can you afford to loose hundreds of thousands of dollars and run the risk of being treated like this? That being said I'd still pay hundreds of thousands to insure they weren't our builder and it's worth it knowing they aren't. We are infinitely happier. You on the other hand can make that decision for free. *Attached is a picture of our house sitting with the plywood rotting. We've since removed the wood and there is just foundation.

We found the mistake and stopped building Dec 20, 2014. So much for their Construction and Project Managers overseeing the build or that special treatment.  In the meantime, our house sits unfinished until we go to court (arbitration)  Nov. 16-18, 2015 Yes, almost a year after we stopped construction. We're hearing from other people having their home built by Copperleaf. They are just as miserable in their decision to go with this company. BEWARE!!!

We terminated the contract due to builder's lack of remedy within the specified time frame.

They were nice until the contract was signed and received our down payment. After that the nightmare began. They are unprofessional and tend to be rude. I wouldn't use them again. They are 5 months behind schedule and still aren't finished. they don't seem to care either because I have the construction loan and I'm having to pay the extra interest due to their delays.
