Hair Salons/Barbers
Just shy of a total nightmare! I took my toddler to CoolCuts for his first haircut. I was greeted immediately, the play area was cheerful and well kept, but it was the stylist who was *greatly* lacking. The first sign that it wasn't going to go well was when I was told to place my kid in a riding toy/chair that was totally covered with someone else's hair. When I asked if it could be cleaned the stylist responded "well he's going to end up with hair on him anyway". She saw I wasn't happy so she attempted to use a blow dryer to take it off(which it really didn't-it needed to be WIPED down. And it would have been nice if the hair on floor from the previous cut had been swept up too). Anyway, I sat him down and asked if the chair had a safety lap belt-she said yes and proceeded to get ready for the haircut(she couldn't find the camera to take his picture). She found the camera and told me I'd have to take the photo as there wasn't anyone else available-I agreed. As she was about to start the cut I asked if she was going to use the lap/safety belt at which time she realized that chair didn't have one so we had to move to another chair where I made sure and strapped my kid in. She began clipping and I went to take a photo-the camera was out of film and she didn't know how to load it. So we waited, and I eventually figured it out...THEN she began cutting. My son did great, for the most part...*UNTIL* the stylist accidentally nipped her finger with some scissors at which time she yelled loudly(being very near my son)it startled both of us. She told me "I just lose my fingers after I cut myself"-communicating that she'd have difficulty completing the hair cut. At that point my son got really antsy which didn't make matters any better. She asked if I could hold him down while she finished. So between a startled toddler and a ill-prepared "wounded" stylist...we got through it. For his first experience getting a haircut, it was pretty bad. In all fairness-my friend says there are some fantastic stylists there. Personally, I wouldn't know, and it would take a lot for me to go back.
