The car is running but they seem and quot;doneand quot; with the car.
This story occurred over a very long period of time so the details might not be 100% accurate more like 99%.
So here is the story I had a 2003 Acura MDX that had a transmission completely go. I looked on www.angieslist.com to find a
transmission shop to get it fixed found 2 with good ratings and got estimates over the phone. Colorado Transmissions
had the lowest estimate. So I had it towed to their shop. They had no forms or pens for the drop box so I had to go back in the morning to give them the keys. They confirmed that the transmission was gone and needed a full rebuild and after
they got it out told me the torque converted had burned up (apparently a common occurrence for this type of vehicle). They rebuilt it. This took them a while because they had to order special parts. They called me up and said it was good to go so I paid for the work and got the warranty and the keys. (Everything after this cost me nothing except time and gas) First
thing I noticed when I got in the car was that it smelled of smoke (I’m very sensitive to smoke) the second thing I noticed was as I pulled out of the parking lot was that the transmission slipped…
I tried to call them to inform them of this but it was already after 5:00 pm so they did not pick up their phone. I called them their next business day. They said bring it in. They provided a loaner car this time. After a week they had replaced the linear solenoid under warranty and told me it was good to go. The first thing I noticed when I
got in the vehicle this time was that the car smelled of smoke. The second was a cigarette but in the water bottle in my vehicle…
Over the weekend my wife started driving the car and the transmission was still acting up again.
So I took it in again and complained about the cigarette butt they apologized and proceeded to work on it again. They replaced part of the transmission case and rebuilt it again. They called me up and said it was good to go. They also informed me that they let go of the employee responsible for the cigarette. The first thing I noticed in the car this time was the lack of smoke. Started driving it again and eventually it started acting up again.
I took it in again and they ordered a refurbished transmission from the dealership. I started driving it and it seemed to be finally fixed. Until my wife drove it up to Denver. The check engine light came on, the AT TEMP light came on, and the D5 light started blinking. I called the shop and they informed me how to drive it back without causing damage.
So we took it in again and they said the linear valve was stuck and they replaced it. We drove it over a week and it seemed finally fixed. That was until I noticed a loud noise when I accelerating from stop. So I took it in again.
I drove it with they head guy to let him hear the noise and he figured out it was easy to create by pressing on the gas and brake at the same time. He had a mechanic look it over and figured it was the exhaust manifold vibrating against something. And that this is only an annoyance and they will fix it when they have room on one of their lifts. So I drove off and the AT TEMP light came on D5 light started blinking…
So I called them and pulled a U turn. When I got there they pulled out their tester and said they must have just overheated it from pushing the accelerator and brake at the same time for too long. They later got me in to fix the vibration but it ended up being the heat shield for the catalytic converter so not something covered under warranty or even touched by them. They did a quick fix to stop it for now but the heat shield would need to be replaced since where it attached has rusted through.
The Transmission has performed flawlessly for the past week so I am satisfied.
Cons: It took them over a month to get the transmission working. They hired an employee that was not respectful of my vehicle. Did not call when they said they would.
Pros: They honor their warranty even to the point of it costing them. The front desk is very professional and willing to work with you. And they provided a loaner car.
Bottom line: The warranty was completely honored by Colorado transmissions even though I know this job cost them a ton. And they were respectful and courteous. I would use them again for these reasons. It is a shame and was annoying that it took them over a month to get this fixed but they did get it fixed. They even dismissed an employee over my complaint. They seemed to be more a victim of being unfortunate with either lemon parts or a transmission that would only act up under certain circumstances then of incompetence.
The estimate was a bit light but overall I've not problem with the work.
