As anyone knows who has moved, it's no fun and it's a lot of work.
These guys are terrific movers! They were pleasant and hardworking, we would highly recommend them. The town home we moved out of had steep stairs and they had to carry some heavy pieces of furniture - no problem. The crew were very considerate of our furniture and handled pieces like they were their own.
Very hard working, professional and friendly crew who between them have been in the business for many years.
Communication with Erik to confirm date and time was like almost like snail mail. He would get back to you in days. The day of the move 1 1/2 hour late with the crew of 2 which was suppose to be 3, which he provided the additional man the last hour. My move, I thought would be over in worst case 5 hours ended up taking 9 hours. It took 6 hours just from the townhome - there was no appliances to be moved. They had to remove the screws from a table to fit through a door. Those screws were not to be found and couldn't be setup at the house. A call to Erik about the screws went unanswered just like the follow-up he said he would get back to me about my experience.
A few days before I hired a crew 'All the right moves' from Denver that moved three times the tonnage from a storage unit and made it to the house in 5 hours including the hour each way.
I told and showed Erik's movers the results of the Denver movers and bluntly told them they were boys compared to the men from All the right moves.
The movers had no energy or pro-longing the moved to get more money for Erik and team.
added fuel charge of over $100 for a short trip..
I don't see how Erik stays in business.
I did give the movers a tip(stupid) but another tip would be change name to D-MOVERS
They hustled all day. Furniture got wrapped appropriately: not to little, risking damage, and not too much, wasting time and materials that I was paying for. Every piece (and there were some killers) got through in good condition.
They were upbeat and polite - not just at the beginning, when it's easy - but toward the end, too, when it's not. They finished the day thanking my nine-year-old for his "help" (he had held some doors, told them where some pieces went, etc). It was cute, and he was still talking about it days later.
Given how well everything went, it's hard for me to mark them down on punctuality, but a less than candid review does us as a community no good: they were substantially late, for reasons that sound like were largely out of their control, but nonetheless impacted my day.
However, this does not change the fact that I would definitely use them again, and recommend them to others, hence the A overall. I've used several of the in-town movers over the last few years, and none of the other would get more than a C from me.
When I made the arrangements with A+ Moving, the owner, Eric Koenig, asked that I purchase $85 worth of straps and $90 worth of moving blankets. His employees showed up at the scheduled time. I should have watched them, but I was busy doing other things that needed to be accomplished prior to departure and I felt that since they were professionals and had the backing of U-Haul, they knew what they were doing.
HOWEVER, they basically threw my belongings into the truck. Nothing was tied down. Nothing was wrapped in blankets. Only after they left did I notice that they had used none of the materials (straps and blankets) that Mr. Koenig had asked me to purchase. When I arrived at my destination, I was horrified at what I had found. Most of the furniture I had was new and there were huge gouges out of the dining room table. The coffee table had multiple gouges on the corners and multiple deep scratches across the top. A lamp table was actually broken in two pieces. I had an expensive marble-topped mirrored dresser and the marble was broken in two. To add insult to injury, the pieces were located in two places indicating that they had broken the top before they had even finished packing and didn't bother to tell me. A large, frameless beveled mirror, that I personally wrapped in 7 layers of bubble wrap was broken. The tops of all the dining room chairs were rubbed. There were also damages to items in boxes, but since they didn't pack the boxes, I wasn't going to hold them responsible. The company that I hired to help me unload at my destination said that they had never seen anything worse, including people that had packed themselves without the aid of a professional moving company.
When I called, e-mailed, and messaged Eric, he either refused to answer calls or call me back. The one time I did speak with him, he indicated that his employees told him that I had asked them not to load the marble-topped dresser. That is a lie. Why would I want to carry the heavy dresser down two flights of stairs by myself. He did not have an excuse for any of the other damage. They have no intention of dealing with this. There are no insurance papers to fill out. They are simply not covering any damage of any kind AND choosing to not even talk to me about it. U-Haul has been no help either. They tell me that they have no affiliation with the company nor do they even require that these companies be insured. I recommend checking Angie's list for reputable movers and now that I'm a member, I'll do better next time.
As it stands today, I am out thousands of dollars in furniture, some of which cannot be repaired.
"We at A Plus Movers must dispute the claim of the member for the following reasons: Our policy on labor-only jobs is to accept no liability because we cannot be responsible for errors others may make in transport or at the other end of the move, be it loading or unloading. However, we did offer the member our “Standard No Cost” insurance in which our liability is limited to $.60 per pound per article. The member initialed this section of the contract and declined any additional insurance coverage offered under the “Extra Cost to Customer” section, the next paragraph of the contract, at the time of the move. A copy of the contract is attached. We have discussed with the member our willingness to go above and beyond even this amount. This was a labor-only job and we were only responsible for part of the loading of the truck at that. When our movers arrived, part of the truck had already been loaded, and when our movers left, more loading was still taking place. She did not want to pay for more than fours hours of work so she sent our movers home before the job was done. We have no way of knowing how things were loaded before and after our movers worked on the job, what may have happened to the truck in route nor how it was driven. The veracity of the member’s claims must be questioned for the following reasons: The member’s complaint with Angie’s List states that NO straps or blankets were used. This allegation in ridiculous. Why would we require her to purchase $175 in packing supplies if we used NONE of them? And if she discovered this after our men left the job, why didn’t she call to complain at that time. If it were true, we would have offered to correct the problem free of charge. The member claims that most of her furniture was new. Our employees, about whom we have had no similar complaints ever, reported to us that much of her furniture was damaged prior to being loaded. She asserts that “the pieces were located in two places indicating that they had broken the top before they had even finished packing and didn’t bother to tell me.” Our employees have reported such problems in similar circumstances and would have spoken with the customer and called the office immediately if they had caused any damage at the time of the move. The member claims that our employees lied about not loading a marble top dresser, asserting that she would not have wanted to carry it down two flights of stairs herself. Our employees reported that they did carry two marble topped dressers down the stairs but were told to leave them in the garage to be loaded later. She also claims that we “have no intention of dealing with this,” that we “are simply not covering any damage of any kind AND choosing to not even talk to me about it,” when the attached email communications prove that neither of these allegations are true. Further, at the time of the move the member filled out a CustomerLobby review, a copy of which is attached, giving us ALL excellent marks for “service,” “availability,” and “will recommend,” and noting “Professional, Efficient, Friendly. I would highly recommend! Great job!” We also find it questionable that the member was not a member of Angie’s List at the time of her move and it appears that her membership was initiated simply to damage our company’s reputation. Further, while acknowledging in her report that we “showed up on time” she even gave us an F for punctuality! We are willing to honor our contractual obligation to the member, and have offered to do even more than that, but we will not refund everything she paid for our work AND replace ALL of her furniture based on her untrue, outrageous and defamatory statements and claims."
