We had four companies bid on the project and while Steve's was not the lowest bid, or the most expensive, we were impressed with the thoroughness of the bid and felt that we knew exactly what we were paying for. The project included gutting the master bath, enlarging the shower, free standing tub, new cabinets and vanity, new tile in the shower, and on the floor, heated bathroom floors, new closet doors and new wood floors in the bedroom. The 2 rooms are separated by a double sided fireplace and Steve replaced the tile/slate on both sides. Steve's crew were always on time and worked very hard, with great concern for cleaning up each day after they finished work. Steve was really good at recommending vendors who were helpful to us as we picked out vanity material, tile, etc. Steve was also very mindful of keeping us on budget and if we went over on an item, we were well aware that we had done so and could approve the overage. In the end we actually came in slightly under budget. We had very few delays in the project and it was due to the fact that we picked a vanity granite that was hard to find. We are really excited by the finished bathroom and bath and very glad to be using a room that is 2014 rather than 1985. Maureen and Roger
From the first meeting with Steve, we were impressed with his professional attitude. He listened carefully to what we had in mind and then told us how he could make that happen. He was on the job himself and with a few employees, there were no subcontractors, which we liked. All of the workers were friendly and considerate. And they worked HARD. We were especially impressed with how well they cleaned up every evening, neatly stacking tools and supplies so nothing was in the way or "messy" looking.
Steve handled the entire process including getting City approval for the plans and handling all the inspections. Of particular interest was the conversation I had with one of the building inspectors as he was leaving our property. He said, "You have a really good builder there. His work is tight and neat and up to code. Any suggestions I make, he doesn't argue or whine, he just says okay." To get that unsolicited recommendation from an inspector was quite special.
All of the materials he used were first quality. Each of the various parts were delivered at just the time they were needed to be used, so there weren't piles of lumber and trusses sitting around for days. The porch is so well connected to the house - matching our original shingles and paint, that you really can't tell that it hasn't been part of the house all along.
His estimate was right on, so there were no surprise "cost over-runs". We highly recommend Steve Rechsteiner for any home building project you might have.
