I'm happy with the work and the time the project took. Jeff and his helper were very nice and helpful. My only issues are that I needed to do the cleanup and that the price increased twice and ended up being slightly higher than I had hoped for. I wish I had gotten a quote in writing, but will still call them for the next project.

They are very good. I got them to come out later next week. They have performed work. This is the third time I am using them. They called me back yesterday. I left them a message to get some work done. They do good work, and they are reasonable.

Jeff did a fantastic job of meeting with me and understanding what I wanted done to my yard. He listened and recommended things based on what I wanted completed. He answered the phone and text messages quickly and showed up when he said he would. Work was done on time and all my expectations were met. Overall I was very satisfied and would definitely hire him again.

Horrible. Father and Son Maintenance (FSM for short from here on) an estimate of $1000 (paint included) for scraping and painting three sides of the fence around my house. Jeff told me at the time of the estimate that the job would take 2 days: one day to scrape, one day to paint. While Jeff was there he peeled by hand a couple of pieces of old paint from the fence and told me that I would need to paint the fence again instead of stain it since it has been painted before or else the new stain wouldn't stick because it couldn't soak into the wood. I thought two days sounded fast, but I figured he was a professional who knew what he was talking about, so I agreed to move forward. I provided a $500 check up front, along with a contract that outlined what I understood the project to entail. I left a note to have my copy of the contract signed and left behind for me. The contract was not left. When I mentioned the missing contract in person, and texted Jeff about returning the contract, it was never returned. On the first day of the job I was approached by one of FSM's employees who told me that some of the pickets were warped and should be replaced, while others would need to be screwed back on because the nails were falling out. This would cost me an additional $100. I was a little frustrated that this didn't come up in the original estimate the day before, but I thought it's only 10% more so, sure, why not. I wrote the $100 check and provided it to the FSM employee that same day. FSM worked on my fence part time for three days. In the end, they claim that they put four coats of stain on the fence. When I asked why they didn't use paint as they said they would need to they told me that Home Depot said the HOA’s color was only available in stain. So, how did the fence get painted with that color originally I wonder. When I walked FSM around the yard after they were done and showed them areas of my fence that I was unhappy with I was provided the following explanations: 1. Rough areas of fence where a sander had dug its corners into the fence at extreme angles creating a rough and uneven appearance. FSM response: We had to sand these areas because the paint was flaking badly and the stain would have come right off. My counter argument: One of the two sections that had been sanded was an area that I had stained myself just a couple of years prior and I knew that it wasn't peeling before they began. The other area was peeling, but no worse than many other areas of the fence. 2. Areas where discolored stain was glopped onto the fence and running down in streaks FSM response: These areas got 5 coats of stain because the unevenly sanded wood kept absorbing the stain. Multiple coats resulted in the unattractive appearance. My counter argument: If the stain is running, I think the fence has had too much stain. The discoloration looks like stain that hadn’t been mixed properly completely, or a dirty spray gun was used. 3. Areas where flaking paint was clearly visible under the fresh stain and was falling off at the slightest touch. FSM response: We spent three days scraping this fence and you have to know when to stop. You aren’t happy when we sand the fence unevenly with a sander, and you aren’t happy when we don’t. My counter argument: Correct, I’m not happy with either result. I wanted the fence scraped properly, and painted or stained properly. I didn’t want someone to randomly sand my fence in some areas and do a half-assed job of scraping it in others. If it was going to take more time, I wish they would have said something before staining paint flakes. 4. Areas where the old paint color is visible through the stain, wood is visible, or new stain has an uneven appearance. FSM response: If we would have added any more stain you would have ended up with more of this (and they point to an area next to the bare spot with running stain where the gun obviously got to close or was held for too long). My counter argument: A professional should be able to create an even coverage, or complete coverage at a minimum. I think it looks like a blind person tried to stain my fence. 5. Replaced pickets don’t have color matched paint or stain on my neighbor’s side of the fence. FSM response: 1. Home Depot can’t match the color, it would turn out like the original color, not the faded color. 2. You can try to match the paint, but it won’t be the same, it will be brighter because it is newer. My counter argument: I’ve done paint color matching before, and I know that you can get closer than the two colors I was looking at. FSM simply painted my color on my neighbor’s side of the fence. FSM was willing to take some money off the final bill, but only if I didn’t want to have anything fixed. If I wanted more half-assed work, they wanted full price. In the end I paid $950 of a $1000 job that would have cost me $1100 at full price and I am left with a fence that… well, you can look at the photos and judge for yourself. In my opinion, Father and Son Maintenance’s work quality is horrible, their communication is horrible, and their excuses are horrible. I will NEVER hire Father and Son Maintenance again, and I wouldn’t recommend them for any job.
Response from Father & Son Maintenance
"This customer wanted a old fence to be new. Over all fence looked good and refreshed. Sorry, I did not chip every piece of paint off 200 ft of fence. My worker sprayed some pickets too much, and tried to sand some others too much, which did not turn out good. I offered to replace those pickets and I discounted my price also . This customer then proceed to say, that the color of stain on those pickets had to match the neighbors side of fence perfectly. The same stain or paint color that was faded and old, I told him I could not match perfectly. So he got mad, I was paid and told to leave. As far as stain I got what hoa wanted according to home depots codes for area. I tired to work with this person to make happy, but he wanted me to make his old fence turn new again and that the Bottom Line."

I have been sick and unable to shovel the recent snowfall. I called Father and Son Maintenance and they were able to come out right away. Jeff was prompt, professional, and reasonably priced. Thank you!

Jeff came our to do an estimate within an hour of my call. He scheduled to do the work within 4 days. He came out when he said he would, and did a great job. It was a small job, and many contractor's would not have even wanted to do it, but he cleared the area well before putting in new fence pickets with screws instead of nails in order for them to stay in better. I would hire him again...also gave me some good tips on our landscape!

I purchased a big deal coupon for this company. It was okay. I don't think that I will be asking him back. He tried really hard while he was here.

They did a great job. They came out in November for me. I had them rake up leaves in the yard and mow the lawn. I provided the bags, but they had the rest of the equipment. We called them, they came and did a good job.

It was a good experience. I paid the "Big Deal" amount but it wasn't enough to clean everything. They worked very hard and fast but it was before all of the leaves and the pine needles fell and I was going to call them again to come back on another basis but we've had snow off and on ever since then.

They were okay. They worked while we paid them, but they worked kind of slow. One of the guys working in the yard was really slow. The owner tended to hustle so it was a mixed bag

I won't be calling him again because he was not quite a craftsman yet. He just charged me the $97.50 but he also told me if I wanted to give him more money for that, that was welcome too which I did. I intended to give him a tip anyhow but I thought he was just a little bit forward with that. It was for hanging curtain rods, put a barbeque grill together, hang up a TV but he did it sideways, but I'm sure he was just inexperienced. I don't want to hurt him while he was trying to get his experience.

They were quick and efficient. They were courteous and polite to me. There were three crew members to do the work and they were here 2 hours. I wanted them to come the week before but they couldn't so they had to schedule an alternate time. I would have preferred if they called to let me know when they were coming by the day of the appointment so I was prepared.

The landscape looked great, he took out some sage that has gotten out of hand and trimmed the bushes that have been maintained in a long time! All debris was picked up and removed. Spring Cleaning will be a lot easier now!

He was horrible. He put the picture in the wrong place so I have to buy new paint to redo the whole room. He couldn’t hang shelves. I told him that I wanted to put some heavy items on the shelves and he was just going to use nails but luckily I was watching him. I told him that he couldn’t do that and he said he don’t have the right screws so he was just going to do his own thing even though I told him specifically what I wanted it for. When he walked in, he had dirt all over his shoes and was walking all over my carpet. He had to run back and forth for the right tools. So I thought that was time consuming. He let me know that my time was running out like after 2 other projects that I asked. I told him I need it completed because he was just half way done and he said that he don’t make very much money when he works through Angie’s List. So they were complaining about Angie’s List to me. In the middle of it, he was putting the shelves and I finally said to grab his things and get out of my house. They waited until the very last day to respond. He came out early. They were just horrible.
Response from Father & Son Maintenance
"I did every thing I was supposed to do according to deal purchase. Customer only purchased two hours of my time, not a full day. My shoes had no sole to them at the time so there is way is left dirt in her house. I mounted a 50 pd mirror solid pine rustic frame on there wall in the bedroom but some small shelves are the complaint. Hung curtain rods, took apart stove glass so could clean little spots in center of the glass. You Don't have paint room for drywall anchor holes. Materials were supposed be supplied which were not. These type people destroy the deal for everyone, and leave the guy doing the work an bad feeling towards giving deals to the members for in the end he is the one who lost."

As you can understand from the description, Jeff and Josh worked efficiently and effectively. All the grass was in sight before they left. There were some leaves, etc. around the outsides of the lawns that they couldn't get to, but I intend to hire them again to do " the finishing touches." Both Jeff and Josh were personal, friendly, and polite. It was a good experience for me.
