Danko Floorworks came recommended but with a warning that he needs to be managed and pushed to his timeline. We saw this right up front when it took 2-3 weeks to get the proposal as he used the excuse that either his computer went down, he doesn't check his emails very often, or his kids were on the computer all evening. But we were pulled in by the initial estimate as it was priced lower than others we had received. The work started slow the first week-they'd work half days and leave for no apparent reason. Other days his one helper ran out of 2x4's and didn't have authorization to go buy more so left for the day. After 3-4 weeks of working our bath they got another project and then put ours on the back burner. We had many issues-they removed the original stack and didn't cover the hole through the roof until after it started raining. The routing of the fan ductwork wasn't sealed until questioned about it and he never reinstalled the exhaust fan we had in the basement because he couldn't figure out where to put it with the new plumbing going through the area. At the end of the project he gave us a list of additional expenses he added onto the invoice, which were not completely discussed with us in advance and he tried charging us for the electrical work twice. Dave is a nice guy and we love our new bathroom but would never rehire him or recommend him because he needs constant monitoring and pushing to get the job done and he was sly about the double charging on the electrical work. He quoted a 2 week timeline for the project and we were into week 7 when the project was completed.
Description of Work: We had two small bathrooms, back-to-back, that we wanted combined into one larger bathroom. Dave Danko & his associates gutted the rooms and tore down the dividing wall. They had to frame in the previous door frames and closets and make a new entrance into the room. They rerouted/added the heating duct work, electric, and plumbing, installed a new heated floor, drywalled the ceiling and walls and built a new shower stall and pan as well as support for the new jetted tub. They built 3 knee walls and installed all of the tile and fixtures we bought separately (incl floor tile and tile for shower, tub surround, and back splash, vanity, granite counter top, jetted tub, all plumbing fixtures, and toilet). They also built a new hall pantry where the previous bathroom entry was and installed the sliders we bought for that as well as move the whole house fan location from the bath to the hallway. A subcon did the electrical work which included adding outlets, installing the exhaust fan, adding wire for the jetted tub to the electrical box, heated floor, canned lighting, and vanity lights. A separate subcon did the shower glass surround. We separately arranged for window replacement with the manufacturer which took place during the reno. We were told the project would take 2 weeks , plus or minus a couple of days.
