"Thank you for your review, [Member Name Removed]. We love to put our experience with flat roofs to good work. All the best!"
"Thank you!"
Andy and his crew started the job on the date promised. His crew consists of long-time employees, not contractors. So the same crew is on the job start to finish. Andy was very responsive when we had questions and he called each morning to let me know when his crew would arrive and what they expected to get done that day. This is a very different experience than I have had with previous roofers who were hard to get a hold of, and often showed up late if at all. The crew was also very polite and careful and did a great job cleaning up each day. The work done of the roof is very impressive. We now have sealed up PVC roof which runs through the scuppers and its white which should keep the house a lot cooler. Even the county roofing inspector was impressed with the quality of the work - he said it was one of the best roofs he'd ever seen!
I can strongly recommend Rocky Mountain Roof Doctors. I am so pleased with their work, that they are coming back to replace the rest of the roof in a month.

1 - Met with the contractor prior to obtaining a quotation. Contractor provided valuable insights into the design and specifications resulting in simplifications and quality enhancements.
2 - Have detailed drawings and scope of work.
3 - Provide target estimates for start and finish dates
4 - Was so pleased with the final result that I provided the Contractor with a bonus for his crew.
I was away during the installation of the roof, but got repeated reports from the friend staying in the house at the time of the installation, and I visited shortly after the roof installation was complete.
First, let me say that Andy went out of his way to accommodate my requests, and tailor the design of the roof to work with the existing roofing line, as well as modify the insulation external to the inner house envelop, so that the roof profile was thinner at the edges for aesthetic reasons.
All of the flashing was well done.
That said, I had the following issues during the roof installation:
1. A woodburning stove pipe was removed and it was filled with ash (unbeknownst to me) and when the workers removed it, it was dropped in such a way that the entire bedroom was covered with ash. They swept a little, but certainly not thoroughly and all of the clothing in the room and the bedding and the curtains had to be cleaned at significant expense. Andy offered to return and clean up and wash clothing, etc, but it was the start of a trend where RMRD would create a problem, and then instead of providing immediate mitigation, would ASK if I would like it cleaned up.... I asked Andy to remove the woodburning stove and cart it away ("extra" work not in the contract, but then, if they sold the stove, it was likely a win-win, or to their advantage to do so).
2. In the middle of the installation, it rained one evening, into the house and damage some of the interior wood in the kitchen area.
3. The disposal company rammed their truck into a sloped area of the yard creating ruts in the yard. Andy offered to have someone come to level the ground, but I have so far not taken him up on the offer. However, instead of putting the onus on me to ask him to right his wrong, it would in my opinion be more pro-active and say that he would do so, and to take immediate action for the errors of his workers and subcontractors.
4. The phone line was cut during roof intallation (it came in on the existing roofline). When told of this, Andy seemed to imply that something was wrong with the existing wiring. The phone line to the house had to be rewired, as a result, and Andy Rock did not take responsibility for this.
4. The original building plans (and Andy's original core sampling of the existing roof) showed plywood over the T&G. However, upon removal of the existing roof, this plywood layer was missing according to RMRD. I was not told about this, and RMRD simply added insulation on top of the existing T&G, with OSB on top, without asking my opinion. To date (going on two weeks now) Andy has refused to offer detailed information about the roofing system structure and how the different layers were connected.
5. When installing the insulation layer, many screws protruded through the existing, exposed interior T&G. This indicates to me that some areas of installation were compressed compared with other areas. Andy came and clipped all the protruding screws and filled damaged T&G surfaces with wood filler. However, this quite significant marring of the internal T&G surfaces means that they can no longer be stripped to expose the douglas fir T&G - my plan for some of the rooms. Andy does not agree this is true, however, logic would indicate that wood filler would be a noticeable marring of the T&G wood materials.
6. The roof system makes popping noises with temperature changes. The noise is quite significant, particularly from sunset to sunrise in some areas of the roof. Andy, lacking specific data, not think it is a long-term structural issue. Even if this is true, it seems to me that this is highly unusual, and something is structurally wrong with how the roof was put together.
I requested a 15% rebate based upon the many issues encountered during and after the roof installation. Andy Rock agreed to wave only $500 of the agreed-upon contract cost.
It saddens me to write this review, since I thought that Andy was someone with integrity. And it many initial aspects of our interaction, this was true.
However, in my opinion, the measure of a person (or a business) is not when things go well, but when they don't. And to date, I have not received adequate compensation for the mediocre aspects of this particular roof replacement.
What is worse, Andy has refused to give me information about how the roofing system was put together, despite repeated contact with his office and assurances that he will respond to my request.
Update Oct 2013 Andy Rock provided the roofing system information in early september and sealed a leak around the chimney later in the month at no cost.
After the work was completed, I received the bill with my 10% Angie's List discount.
We just had a significant rain storm last night and I am happy to report there was NO (repeat NO) water leakage!
One other point, I was given the option to have the stonework on the lower portion of the two
chimneys removed via Rocky Mountain Roof Doctors or have the work done myself. Stone removal was necessary prior to replacing the flashing. I chose to have Victor's Stucco & Stone do that work (303-642-0894). I have used this company in the past and have been very pleased with their work. They removed the stone from the two chimneys and returned at a later date to mortar the stones back in.
