Rick asked if I considered it an emergency, I quickly said no. He said they could come out the following week at my convenience. We couldn't come to a date (purely due to my schedule, they were more than willing to make it work) Rick then stated that they could do it today. He contacted Chris and he was there literally in 15 minutes even though it was not an emergency by any means. They did it solely to help me out at no additional cost for the weekend.
When Chris arrived he was professional and friendly. He went about his work without needing any additional direction and was in and out within a hour. He provided me a cost before the work. He used his Ipad and had the rates for the repair on the screen so a person would know exactly what was going to be done. After the work was completed he explained what he had found.
After it was over, I realized that I had found a problem, had a plumber out, got everything repaired correctly, and was back to enjoying my weekend with only a quick phone call. It was truly one of the easiest experiences I have had on a home repair. I also have faith that this is exactly the type of experience that Rick and his business wants for their customers.
Great experience with a plumber that I completely trust.

McAdam's quoted me $35 for the house call over the phone, and Rick from McAdams investigated. At first I was really happy that he gave me suggestions to find the leak that didn't involve cutting any drywall, specifically:
1) A toilet in an upstairs bathroom that had recently been retiled. He said the flange usually starts to leak a few years after retiling if it wasn't raised because the wax seal degrades over time and isn't quite tall enough. He suggested using the blue toilet cakes to see if this was the issue. If the leak turned my kitchen ceiling blue, we've found the culprit.
2) He found a ripped rubber seal on my show door that could also explain it, which was an easy repair I could do myself.
Rick had me try those two things and said if neither of them fixed or identified the leak, he would return to cut drywall to find it and not charge me the $35 inspection fee again, so when I started leaking continuously (not just a drip) when the shower was on, we called him back. He flooded the shower pan and determined it wasn't a leak in the pan or drain pipe, but then told us:
* The next step would be to cut drywall to see where the leak was coming from.
* He couldn't do it that day. (We explained the situation when we called him in and scheduled an appointment for a few days after we called, so I was somewhat frustrated that it would take another trip. They did spend 1.5 hours attempting to find the leak though).
* It would cost $165 to find the leak, which didn't include fixing it or repairing the drywall cut. (I don't think this is an unreasonable price, but I felt mislead both by my initial phone conversation with McAdams and by what Rick told me the first time he came out.)
Before we could schedule them to return to find and fix the problem, we figured out on our own that it only occurred when the shower was spraying on the corner of the tiled shower wall. Our tile guy came out and pointed out where the bottom two rows of tile had been replaced previously, noting a slightly different color, and suggested replacing them again. He also noted the mold in the grout line, which kept coming back no matter how much I cleaned it or what cleaning products I used, was a sure sign the grout is no longer water tight.
I ended up re-grouting the bottom two rows of tile and resealing all of the grout myself which seems to have fixed the leak for two weeks now.
The McAdam's guys were friendly and had some good non-invasive ideas to try to find the leak. However, they should have let me know about both the $35 visit fee and the $165 fee for the more detailed inspection up front. More importantly, I'm disappointed they couldn't find the leak the way I did by spraying the shower wall. Now that I've seen the symptoms (cracked grout, mold that keeps coming back), it seems like it should be an easy to spot problem for an experienced plumber.
In their defense:
* They didn't charge me a 2nd visit fee (just the $35 for the first visit)
* I cleaned the mold at least weekly because it kept coming back so quickly, so it may have been mostly scrubbed away when they were there and harder to notice. (but definitely visible if you were looking for it.)
I will probably call McAdam's again, but I'm not necessarily set on them as my go-to plumber.
Note:
I've amended this review after their 2nd visit. The response they provided below was to my original review. McAdams contacted me by mail to let me know that Angie's List doesn't let them amend their response even though I've amended my review, so I'm adding the comments they sent me on their behalf. They said:
* They try to always let customers know about all fees up front and apologize for the misunderstanding.
* They did spend 1.5 hours trying to find my leak and it's not always possible even for an experience plumber to do so without cutting drywall.
I am impressed that they seem to take customer satisfaction very seriously. Hopefully this review is more informative than the typical "best/worst company ever" Angie's List review and readers will give them a try simply because they knowing what they're getting.

After I decided to go ahead and schedule the work, Rick came by in the morning, repaired the damaged closet flange (it was a copper flange on copper drain pipe), brought it up to the correct height, and installed the new toilet (which I had purchased myself). He also provided a one year guarantee on the work, and charged exactly the same as the estimate.
Thumbs up!

My mother's master bedroom toilet overflowed on a Saturday evening and she had quite a mess. She told me the next morning during our phone call. I went to Angie's List and tried two of the listed 24 hour service companies to no avail. Since I wasn't going to get service for her on Sunday, I decided to call McAdams Plumbing early Monday morning. I called a little after 7:00 a..m. and found they were already on a job, but was told that they would arrive at her house between 9:00-10:00 a.m.. I arrived at her house at 9:00 a.m.. Rick and Chris arrived a little before 10:00 a.m. and had her toilet in working order 45 minutes later. The two of them couldn't have been nicer or more professional. Their prices were reasonable and they gave Mom a senior discount. Chris even took a bit of time with Mom to admire wall photos she wanted to show him that my father had taken. Her dog Toby even enjoyed his time around them.
Mom wishes to offer her thanks to them as well in this review.
