Mr. Jones told me up front that he was licensed in the City and County of Denver, and was able to pull permits to do all HVAC, plumbing, framing, drywall and insulation work necessary to complete a total basement renovation in my home. This turned out to be a glaring misrepresentation on his part. Not only did he not have a license and couldn't pull permits, but he disregarded my request to contact licensed electricians and plumbers who had given bids at decent prices, instead attempting to steer me toward individuals he know at twice the cost. He was allowed to begin demo work at an hourly rate, and was supposed to write up a bid for reconstruction and completion by the end of the week, and was allowed to begin putting in a new PEX plumbing system, with the work to be inspected and reviewed by a licensed plumber. This failed to happen, and I received outlandish bills for snails-pace demolition and plumbing work by he and his wife, Mona. Despite my frequest requests over a two-week period for a legitimate contract and bid for completion of work, these were promised daily but not done. After the second week, I fired him after requiring that work stop unless we had a contract, with pulling of all required city permits. He could not get his license with the City completed, due to some unidentified 'problems with his license' he was unable to explain, and thus could not pull permits. I later hired a licensed HVAC contractor, plumber and electrician to finish those portions of the project, and found a new (truly licensed) G.C. to oversee the completion of the basement remodel project. The plumbing work Mr. Jones completed had to be totally redone, and the licensed plumber I hired to complete the project found over 10 glaring problems with the work that would not have met code. The framing he completed required redo by the licensed general contractor, who also found errors with the work that failed to meet Denver code. All in all, he misrepresented his status as a licensed General Contractor. His stated expertise was also patently false from start to finish. I would not hire this individual under any circumstance, unless you plan to hire someone later to redo the project correctly.
