We bought a home from sellers represented by Wright-Kingdom RE. Until closing this purchase was unremarkable compared to the other seven real estate transactions we have made. Per the contract, laundry appliances were included in the sale, but when we did the walk through we found they had been taken. We brought this up first thing at closing, and found out that the agent had told the sellers that the washer and dryer would not be included in the sale . She argued that we had not put them in the right section of the contract and therefore they were in fact not included in the sale. We asked why this wasn't addressed in the sellers counter offer and she then admitted that she did not really read the contract carefully enough and missed the appliances. The agent then consulted the Wright-Kingdom office, holding up closing for about a half hour. Following that she offered us a choice: Wait an indefinite amount of time for the washer/dryer to be retrieved from storage where they were crated up (did not really seem like an option to us), or accept $1,000 in compensation - her preferred way to go. She explained that she had just checked online (iPad at closing) and the that same model machines were available in town for $1,400. We believed her, and in the interest of making the deal happen we accepted the $1,000 understanding that the machines were one year old and anyone can make a mistake. The next day when we went to purchase replacements in town we found that comparable machines (originals were LG Steam models 2550) that were available cost over $2,000. We bought some prior year models for $2,000. We let the agent know that her estimate was off and asked her to please send us the difference (not including delivery or installation). She politely blew us off. We then contacted her managing broker and appealed to him to make the situation right, but he also declined. It's such a small amount of money as a percentage of the purchase price, but the fact is Wright-Kingdom made a mistake, and fooled us into paying for it. This transaction left us with a bad taste in our mouths, and we will definitely avoid dealing with them in the future.
Description of Work: Wright-Kingdom acted as sellers' agent for home we purchased. They were not employed by us, but we had to deal with them as the only realtor in the transaction.
