The main reason for calling them was two jobs involving some height and difficult access -- reattaching a roof fascia that was coming off and creating a new interior window frame for a new skylight (turned out that the roofers who installed skylights did not do anything interior!). Both of these went quickly and well. As did a small job installing a valve in a shower line. However there were problems with the next item on the list (we felt we were committed to paying for an entire afternoon.) This was installing a new light fixture -- something we generally do ourselves if the location is accessible. Turned out the guy who came is afraid of electricity because he recently experienced a bad shock. Initially he wanted to turn off all the electricity in the house. Although we talked him out of that and worked with him to find the circuit breaker that turned off the appropriate circuit, it was in a dark hallway and we did not closely supervise the work. And he was in a hurry because they had told him he had to go on to pick up doors for another job the next day. Although he had been very careful to check every step of the way on every other job, he did not on this last one. And afterwards we found that this unusual fixture (two light track arms extending from a base) had been installed improperly so the arms could not be unfolded and extended. We had to take it down and reinstall it ourselves. We requested a small reduction in the charge, half of the time attributable to this job because we felt responsibility for the problem was shared, and that request was granted.

The serviceman arrived on time and did these jobs quickly and well, with no fuss. I think pricing is reasonable for this kind of on-site service. The main drawback was a long lead time for service (about 3 weeks from making the appointment).

Really good! Took a little longer than expected due to an extra trip to the hardware store but the work was completed professionally and appropriately.

Dean arrived on time, took care of the work, and cleaned up after himself. In addition, we received a 10% senior discount.

Work was done well but I agree with someone else's post that they should not charge the full hourly rate while shopping for materials.

Cliff and Logan were able to pick up and transport the cabinets from HomeDepot for us.  they did a meticulous job of installing, leveling, and finishing with crown molding.  They are professional and easy to work with.  The office manager Marissa was very easy to contact via email and phone.  Overall, great service.  They weren't the cheapest but we are glad of the quality of work.

My job was done in three steps, The first call (which I would give a grade of A) was scheduled within a week of my call. The handymen who came were professional and knowledgeable, I then needed additional work done, which had to be rescheduled two times. Again, the handyman was extremely good. The communication with the office was not great for this second part of the job, so I would give this part a C. The last part was the hauling away of materials. I was told by the handyman that they would be hauled away by a pickup truck, or a flatbed, depending on the size needed for the haul. Someone showed up to haul away the materials with a VAN?! When I asked about a pickup or a flatbed, he said his van could hold as much as they could (clearly not true). Because he was using a van, he had to haul in 3 loads, which cost more. It also took him longer because of the repeat trips, which again cost me more. And I was not given an invoice at the time of the job, so had to request one (this last part of the job receives an F from me). I feel as if I got such prompt service/attention for the first call to "get me reeled in", then I became low priority because the first part of the job was done by them, and they didn't have to give my work any priority. And the last part was just WRONG. I want to be clear that the handymen who actually worked on my deck were excellent. But the person who came to haul away materials, and the office help was not. I will not use again, and would discourage anyone from using.
Response from Handyman Matters of Boulder
"We're sorry you felt the job wasn't done to your satisfaction. We'd like to point out that our van has storage capacity of 200 cubic feet which is the same as the trailer we haul materials away with and vastly more then fits in a pick up truck since this was a deck tear out. Also when you pointed out your concern, we compensated you by slashing our hourly rate 37.5% which you're failing to point out. Loading and unloading the amount of material remains constant and since we came on a Saturday to fit your schedule, the worker brought his son to spend time with him and use it as a teaching moment - labor you did not pay for. In the end, you paid less then then we had told you. We do apologize for not meeting your expectations however. We have high standards and are disappointed not to have delivered to your satisfaction."

The workers were very professional and knew what they were doing. One of the workers was a master woodworker and did a lovely job of trimming out the french doors.  They were versatile and knowledgable.

My project was to renovate a bath in a rental unit in Boulder. I live outside of Colorado.I solicited bids from a number of Angie's list companies. Handyman Matters (HM) came in with a competitive bid and its proposal was prompt and thorough. However, in bidding the job, HM did not actually visit the property.

HM encouraged me to order the materials myself through Home Depot. Mark, the owner of Handyman Matters of Boulder, Recommended to do it this way in order to avoid paying an extra 30% charge if his company purchased the materials for me. HM charges $75 to pick up the materials. I appreciated the candid advice.

When the worker arrived on site, he realized that the bath surround to be installed would cover a window in the bath. I had known this, but was nonetheless inclined to seal the window and cover it behind the surround. But Mark made a persuasive argument to return the surround to HD and exchange it for ceramic tile which would preserve the window. He offered to do the job for no additional labor cost. I accepted the offer.

After demolition started , unexpectedly more sub-floor as well as the window framing had to replaced because of water damage. The worker on the job also informed me that the new tub had some scratches on it. He was good about directly communicating with me, sending photos when issues arose. The HM office was likewise prompt to inform me of extra charges as a result of the unexpected repairs.

The work was completed in week. The workmanship was excellent and my tenants were delighted, even though they had to use the other bathroom in the house for a week. I was a little disappointed at the cleanup. Cartons were left in the living room and I had to call HM to get them removed, even though that was promised by the tradesman doing the job. Moreover, although Mark assured me that HM would move the Bagster with the construction waste close enough to the street so that Waste Mangement could retrieve it, in fact the tradesman phoned my tenant, who had a truck, and asked him to tow the Bagster closer to the street. My tenant ended up moving the Bagster at the request of the tradesman. HM can do better than this.

Despite these late lapses, overall the job was well done.

I contacted Mr. Rob Parker of Handyman Matters of Boulder, based on an and quot;Aand quot; grade published on Angie's list. He was most responsive in studying the property and presenting a bid for demolishing the old deck and installing a new deck. The project bid was on target in terms of labor estimate the materials cost, which I purchased myself. The old deck was removed and a new deck was installed in a timely manner, given the difficulty of afternoon thunder storms during the mid-course of the construction. I was impressed by two things: (1) the friendliness of Mr. Rob Parker and his two workers, Chris and Chuck, and (2) the carefulness of the construction, in spite of some difficult angles encountered during the installation of the deck stairs. I highly recommend Handyman Matters of Boulder for this and other kinds of projects. My Angie's List grade on this project is an and quot;A.and quot;

Rob was very professional and helped get service scheduled promptly.Chris, the handyman that they sent out, was clearly knowledgable in all facets of home repair. He did a great job, and incredibly efficient, tackling a couple of additional (small) projects within the day rate that we agreed upon. I will definitely use them again in the future.

My experience was great.  I had gotten a door at the re-force recycle center in Boulder and it didn't fit into my front door exactly.  There was a chance that he may have to re-frame it, but he didn't.  He did a great job.  He had to end up shaving an inch off the bottom of it and he put a new handle and deadlock and put it into the new door.  He had all the supplies with him.  He just did a great job. Since I was an Angie's List person he waived the drive fee which was nice.  And he cleaned all his stuff up in the garage.  He put everything back the way it was and cleaned up like he wasn't even there.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that we purchased The work he actually performed was fine but he didn't actually do what we had intended to have him do. He came an hour late and he didn't come prepared with the right tools so we had him do a different job than we had originally planned. We were going to have him fix some issues with our wood floor around a vent. There were no additional charges because we had paid for 2 hours and he stayed for the 2 hours. A fair amount of time was wasted because at first he was going to attempt the original project. Eventually he thought about it and decided he didn't feel comfortable doing so so we felt that some of our time was wasted. The work he did was fine. It was a good price but there was wasted time.

"Thank you for bringing this to our attention. No excuse for being an hour late. I hope he called you and let you know he was going to be late. After reviewing the work order it seems to me that we should have gotten more time to do the requested work on the floor. the flooring project alone should have been a half a day to complete. Thank you for your business and your feedback. Sincerely, Rob"

Once Chad started he didn't keep working at the job until he was finished.  Rob kept sending him out on other jobs so it took two months to do what could have been finished in one month.  Also there was wood trim put around the landing.  The wood trim on the top of the landing was put right against the wooden landing like it should have been.  The wood trim on the side of the landing was placed one inch away from the wooden landing.  Chad claimed that was how it was supposed to be.  The whole idea was totally ludicrous.  All wood trim should have touched the landing.  Rob is standing up for Chad and won't see reason.

"So sorry that regardless of the number of times I have explained to you that the gap is where the carpet fits in you are going out of your way to dog me and my company. I am sorry that you just don't understand. Funny how you failed to mention how quickly we responded to your needs and how nicely the basement looks now. It is as if the flood never happened. You are welcome! Please move on and stop harassing us and the fine work we do. Rob."

We own a vacation home in the Boulder area, and Rob Parker has been invaluable to us in terms of meeting our repair needs. We were not here during the recent flood, and experienced some damage in our basement. Rob's crew cleaned up our crawlspace, installed a sump pump, removed damaged carpeting and beautifully tiled our entire basement, all in our absence. When we arrived here from Philadelphia over Christmas, we found our house to be completely intact and clean as well.

We also used Rob's services for general handyman work, such as hanging light fixtures, paint touch ups, etc.

In addition to high quality work, all of Rob's crew were professional and pleasant to work with. We are very pleased overall and would highly recommend this company for all of your handyman needs.

Called handyman matters the next day. Said that will be $130 additional to come back and fix weather stripping that they did not correctly install.  Told them forget it way too much of a hassle to deal with them. I feel Angie's list is just another gimmick.  Sorry I wasted my money

"[member name removed], I am very sorry for your experience with us. If it is any consolation, the craftsman that visited your home is no longer with the company. I understand your frustration that we had to go pick up materials. With the wide variety of jobs we preform, there is no way we can stock everything. I am also sorry that your experience with us reflected so poorly on Angie's List. Angie's List customers are some of our best and most loyal customers. I hope the next handy person can hire can satisfy you better. Rob"
