We hired Ernie (owner of Foothills Excavating) to fix a drainage problem at our home and do some landscaping. He was very difficult to communicate with. He was extremely gruff, wouldn't listen to what we needed or what engineers had suggested, and had a "let me do it my way/I'm right and everyone is wrong" attitude. Unfortunately my husband wasn't around so I was stuck dealing alone with him and I felt extremely bullied. He steamrolled over me every time I tried to talk, but I was desperate to get the drainage issue fixed fast. Because he didn't listen to us or the engineers, he used the wrong (as per code and standard practice) materials, did the work improperly, broke some important electrical items in the process, and made a whole new drainage/flooding problem near the front of our house. He left the yard looking like a disaster - with dirt piled and haphazard. It truly looks ridiculous to have paid thousands and have it not perform or even look decent. He also brought materials on site that we had purchased for much less prior, but demanded we pay him immediately for them and pay literally four times the cost or he'd walk off the job. It wasn't even the right material but we didn't know until too late. He ultimately used the "nice" landscaping rock we had previously purchased to fill in holes, and his cheap (although he charged us a lot more) and nasty looking rocks for the top/visible portion. We had told him repeatedly to use the nice rock on top. Although this was the least of the issues to be honest. The flooding/drainage issue is still not fixed. When we asked him to come fix the work, he pushed my husband in the chest and threatened him. He refused to return and fix the work. He then continued to have his big muscle man employee continually harass us until we paid him for work that was incomplete and incorrect, but we felt incredibly threatened and it's often just wife/young child at home. He has threatened repeatedly to try to take our home from us, and how he did that to his neighbor (took her home) and he would do it to us. He is scary and unreasonable and a bully, and the work that he thinks is so great, is not standard and, in our case, improperly done.
