These folks are great! Anna helped schedule us quickly and was very responsive. Matt, the handyman who came, was terrific! He repaired everything as needed and was so pleasant and helpful with his advice regarding radon reduction and door insulation. I feel this is a company that we can count on in the future.

They are subcontractors to the company Eco Handyman owner. The owner seems to understand the level of the job and assigns the job accordingly to good people. They talked to me when they came to do the job and did as requested. Eco handyman let me know if I bought the materials myself, which ones were good and which ones needed to be measured for the task so I wouldn't waste my money.
Description of Work: I have used eco handyman to do a bunch of odd jobs around the house. Replace sink and faucets, fix a couple of holes, fix a light, and fix and paint ceiling access. Replace some siding.

Work was performed very well. Both the office staff and the installers were efficient, courteous, and competent. Occupants of our rental property immediately noticed improvements: less draftiness, quieter in the house, heat coming on less frequently.
Description of Work: Added insulation to attic. Sealed attic and doors. Replaced all of the old single-pane windows.

I think they did a good job. Nate does a nice job working with the rebate guidelines so that you fit within the parameters and get the most out of the rebate programs. Other bids I got included things that didn't get as much bang for the buck energy-wise and weren't covered by the rebate program, so Nate's was more helpful. You can see his professionalism and his knowledge in the bid (that's verbatim what I typed above for the detailed description of the work done). I guess I'm not an expert in what they did and am not really going to go up in the attic and inspect (but what I saw looked like a lot of insulation, and the infrared camera later showed that the area of the attic over my office was now not showing up as leaking heat and cold like before), and I haven't pulled open my can lights to see the caulk, etc. So I guess I'm somewhat assuming they did a good job on the things I can't see. The duct sealing was kind of messy in the basement, and I wish they had warned me about that. The dark mastic is painted onto my drywall and such. It was ugly down there anyway because I don't have a ceiling in the basement, but it's a little extra ugly now. Elaine in the office is very helpful. She worked at the communication aspect when I had questions, and she managed to get me in on the last day to qualify for the rebates even though they were deluged with people trying to hire them for the same reason. I really appreciated that! We haven't really had winter weather yet, so I don't know how much my energy bills will be affected. I hope it will be substantial.
Description of Work: Flat attic detailed airsealing and insulation scope of work: 1) Air seal attic penetraions for wiring, vent pipes accessible top-plates and other areas that allow cold air to drop into home with low-VOC expandable foam. 2) Seal furnace pipe penetration with special heat-resistant caulk and surround it with a metal collar per code. 3) Add soffit vent baffles for improved attic ventilation, reduced moisture, and to reduce "wind washing" of insulation near the eaves. 4) Create a tall wooden or flexible wall around attic hatch to allow full insulation depth up to the hatch, while still allowing someone to easily get into the attic at a later time. 5) Seal attic hatch with weather stripping and caulk the hatch trim as needed for a tighter seal around the edges 6) Insulate the attic hatch with 4: thick rigid foam plus fiberglass to match R-value of the attic. 7) Special focus on insulating beyond the exterior of the wall, into the overhang/soffit area, where it appears there is a lack of insulation currently. 8) Add R-25 blown cellulose insulation (a recycled newspaper product with roughly 75% recycled material and a fire-retardant for safety), to bring total amount to R-50, which is above code, and recommended for comfort and energy savings. Includes all labor and materials for all steps of project. Airsealing 12 IC rated cans from the interior of the house: Seal lights with high-heat caulk, to reduce airflow into the attic. Then caulk fixture to the drywall to reduce airflow around the can. Includes all labor and materials. Seal ductwork: Seal accessible supply and return ductwork with duct mastic, and metal tape. Includes joints in metal ductwork, plenum (the big box part). This improves furnace efficiency, and sealing the return ducts helps to balance the pressure between your basement and the main floor of the home, for better efficiency. Includes all labor and materials.

The story is above.
Description of Work: I needed my two car garage interior sheetrock repair, prime and paint. I asked him for a bid. He bid $4,200 for a job that should be done for about $!,200 by any number of handymen, rockers, or painters. His marketing is very green but his knowledge is weak and his estimate was irrational. I happen to have a fairly good knowledge of home maintenance but I do not have the time or the physical ability to do the things that I used to do. I know how long it takes to come in, prep and spray a two car garage. But it makes me mad that less knowledgable people may be taken in by his salesmanship. Be cautious.

The price was in line with other companies that quoted. There was no charge for the quote. They seemed to be pretty professional and they seemed to know what they were talking about. They did a test as to how leaky my house was. They were a close second on my list. I would have no problem recommending them.

The presentation by owner before the work was done was very professional. Very convincing. However, the work was messy and terribly incomplete. Before the work was done, the worker performed a blower test and CAZ test. We could see wherre the cold air was incorrectly coming and going out. We were excited to lower our energy consumption. However many things went wrong for us and we got very little cooperation or satisfaction at the end of the job. After the work was complete, the owner did another blower test, but didn't let us know when he was doing it and wouldn't do another so we could see the improvement. Very wrong, and very snotty to us. He suggested that if we had been present at the test we could have seen the result! Of course we were not informed about the test time. He argued about messy caulking and suggested I call a painter to cover the damage. He also was very smug and flippant when we pointed out thing they had completely missed, such as the wind blowing in under our front door. He grudgingly said he would fix that althought that wasn't part of the bid!!! My husband spent a great deal of time caulking and fixing places they missed. I was so disappointed-our energy efficiency changed by 20%, they say, (although we have no proof of that) and it is still as cold in the winter as it was before $4000 of work.I was also most disappointed about the general snottiness of the owner. I am in a service business, and I know I should shut my real estate door if I had such an attitude. We cannot recommend this company.

Eco Handyman did multiple tasks that they completed efficiency. Out of all the contractors we bid, they had the best solution for replacing our old attic fan (think airplane propeller) with a more efficient, non-leaking (no heat back into the house from the attic) dual fan. Their bid was competitive for the air sealing and attic insulation. When an issue arose that required an additional drywall opening they took care of it without issue and fixed it up as good as new. Passed City electrical inspection without issue. We had used an energy audit provided by Excel/Lightly Treading to guide the improvements we made. And with these improvements we saw a decrease in the summer of 10 degrees in the upper level of the house helping to maximize our comfort level. We were able to go with minimal use of air conditioning the summer of 2011 as a result.
Description of Work: Whole house fan replacement with a much quieter Quiet Cool (4500 cfm) Dual Fan with automatic close with a multi-setting timer. Added soffits to accomodate calculated air flow. Attic Air Seal and Attic Insulation included knee-wall Air Sealing of ducting work in basement Air Sealing Testing

We had used eco handyman for a bid for a larger project and found them to be very responsive and knowledgeable during that bidding process. So in the process of selling our house we found some issues that needed to be resolved and they were able to easily schedule. Some of the people they use are subcontractors, but so far we have found all of them to be exceptional. Our references calls confirmed what we have understood as well. For smaller projects they may cost a little bit more than their competitors but the work is done well and professionally and often in a reasonable timeframe. Very happy overall and would use them again. Don't hestitate to ask them for references and to follow up on those references.

The handyman was very friendly and knowledgable. He did a wide variety of jobs and all were done well. The scheduling was not as smooth as it could have been, so if we had been on a tight deadline that would have been inconvenient. Otherwise we were very pleased with this company and would recommend their services highly!
