Worst experience we've had with any business -bar none- and we have built and serviced multiple residences. We had A-Ability out to bid replacement of a sliding glass door. The house was built in 1962 and had not only the original door but a second storm door on the sliding door. An employee came out to measure and asked us where we wanted the door - where the original door was (and butted cleanly up against the existing tile in the kitchen) or where the exterior storm door was (which would have left a six inch or more gap between the door and the tile..... tile that was several years old and would have had to be matched or the entire kitchen floor replaced. Duh! My husband and I were both present and clearly said we wanted it where the original door was butting up against the tile. He measured and left. We got a reasonable quote for a very nice custom door and we accepted the bid. When the installers arrived, they said the door was measured to the exterior dimensions and would not fit where we wanted. We asked to speak to the person who ordered the door. His responses in order were the following: 1. He said that we told him the exterior door was where we wanted it (really? We wanted the extra headache of finding tile, paying someone to replace it, and so on? Don't think so). 2. He said we approved the door. His measurements, his dimensions... that's why we didn't measure ourselves - exactly for a reason like this. 3. We were told we had nothing in writing to prove what we ordered. It was our word against his. Okay, now I learned something about the ethics of this business. 4. I was told I didn't seem to want to find a resolution. His resolution was that we take the door as it was and install in where we didn't want it. 5. He said he had no intention of "eating" the cost of a custom door. Well, the installers measured and said a STANDARD size door would fit (no custom needed!). The business's solution? Go to Home Depot, buy and install a $400.00 door. BUT..... the cost would be the same - $1,100!!!! We had no choice.... the door was off. We didn't feel like we could start over with another company. So they installed the Home Depot door. We paid the bill in full but asked for a call from the manager or the owner. No response. NOTHING!! I have never posted a negative review in my life but this was too much.
