"We had provided your estimate based on the fact that we had installed the heating system and already knew your duct layout. When we arrived at your home to install the air conditioner, our tech performed a field evaluation. He recommended having a retaining wall installed post-installation, or rescheduling the project to have a concrete pad installed due to the fact that your grade could separate from your house over time. The tech also made a recommendation to add an indoor air quality package for an additional cost while he was on site. The estimate we provided was the price we were charging you for the installation. There were no additional charges. The retaining wall and concrete pad were merely a recommendation. We have installed many of the air conditioners in your neighborhood, and we have installed thousands of air conditioners in new construction homes with many different grades. We want to make sure our customers understand all options so they can make a decision that best suits each individual’s needs. The $523.20 down payment was refunded to you the same day you canceled your installation."

The service tech confirmed that our capacitor had gone bad and pulled it to replace. We had weather in the 90's over the weekend and it was supposed to hit 100. He said they only had "universal" capacitors available for such jobs and it would cost $280 for the capacitor itself. We were stuck between a rock and a hard place, as by the time he showed up, it was in the afternoon and the house was unbearably hot. I have since looked up that universal capacitor and the price is $50-70 on Amazon (MARS 1220 Turbo 200). Now I expect companies like this to double the price of an item, as they are providing a service to have the part on hand. But over a 4x markup is extremely GREEDY in my book!!! The tech even said "it's supply and demand". In my book, that's just pain price gouging and taking advantage of the situation. I would NEVER use this company again and advise anyone reading this to NEVER use them!!!
The bill came out as follows: $280.00 for the capacitor, $109.00 for the service call, $80.00 for servicing the unit...for a total of $469.00. Had I not had him service the unit, he would have been in and out of the house in 15-20 minutes.
