Also, it offered the "night vision" option, which I initially clicked, went forward, saw that it made the order $2,500 (!) and then I went back and corrected my order.
When I got the call to schedule service, we went over those options again (no to night vision, yes to bronze tint), the rep contacted my insurance for me, and she told me that the Aurora location would call me to set a date. The first date we set had to be rescheduled, as they let me know the night before that they didn't have the bronze glass.
When I called again, the next rep checked and told me that the bronze glass is no longer manufactured, but didn't I need the night vision? NO, I don't need the night vision, thanks, I guess I will go with the green glass. I called back again to change the date, and to their credit, the Safelite location was able to get a tech scheduled to come out to my home on Saturday, July 6.
When the tech came out, he was full of excuses, it was pretty clear he didn't want to be working on the holiday weekend. The very first thing he told me is that he didn't bring a seal and the work might need to be postponed until he had a seal. Next he told me that whoever did the work last should have soldered the frame, not secured it with rivets, and there might be rust in there. And if there was rust in there he couldn't do the job, it would have to be done by a body shop. We were like, "Huh? Well, here's the keys, we're going inside." Five minutes later the doorbell rings and he tells us there's too much rust and only a body shop can do the work. He hadn't actually removed the frame or anything.
Long story long, I called my body shop on Monday and explained the situation. They put me through to their auto glass sub, who I ended up getting to do the work. That tech (NOT a Safelite tech), Peter, told me that all Lexus vehicles have replacement frames riveted on. And that the LX 470 and Toyota Landcruisers are notorious for having some rust under the frames but he encounters that all the time and is able to do the job regardless. When he did the work, he told my husband that my vehicle had barely any rust under the window frame, about what he would expect for a two year old vehicle, not a seven year old vehicle.
In summary, I think Safelite's handling of the insurance claim piece is good, their ordering/schedulding process has potential albeit some handoff issues, but they hire some inexperienced techs and then it all falls down.
