"This review is completely false. The only factual information is the fact that the tile was installed professionally (simply because it's evident). It has been 6 months since I worked for this client (I did the job in January 2012), in that time I did not receive a single call or a letter or an email neither from the client nor from their insurance company nor from Angie's List in regards to any of this. I am obviously not hard to find, since Angie's List has all my information and I am responding to this review within just several days it being posted. To address the comment about the doors: before the work was started, I warned the client that the doors will not fit after the tile is installed and I offered them a quote to have the doors cut and reinstalled. The client refused my offer and said they would have it taken care of by a different company more cheaply. That is the last I heard about the doors. So when we did sign the contract, the doors were not in the scope of it at all. As far as the toilet is concerned: the fact is that the client is placing a complaint 6 months after the job was finished and 4 months after the leak was supposedly discovered. If this was in fact the result of my mistake, the client or their insurance company would have contacted me sooner. I refuse to be a made a scapegoat for something that I have no connection with."
"Thank you for the feedback I appreciate it. I would like to address a couple of points however: 1. This client's house required a 3 hr drive one way for me, so I initially wanted to turn this customer down, but he insisted I take the job obviously based on the many excellent reviews that allowed me to win Super Service Awards from Angies List both in 2009 and 2010. The estimate I provided included the surcharge to account for the time and expense associated with the distance I had to drive and while that made the bid higher than my normal price, it was far from high. 2. The always provide estimates with separate costs for labor and auxiliary materials, this is done in the name of full disclosure, so that each customer knows what they pay for. Auxiliary materials were in fact purchased, everything else is heresay. 3. I use a top of the line wet saw which produces absolutely no dust, however the customer failed to mention that before installing the tile, we also did the demolition and it was the demo that produced the debris and while I made every attempt to clean up after it, post-demolition cleanup was the responsibility of the homeowner. 4. Member failed to mention that in spite of everything I did 'poorly', he asked me to do another project for him and when I provided the estimate, he followed up with me about it repeatedly trying to lower the price. This continued for almost 4 months and when I again refused to lower what was a fair price, Member posted this review."
We originally called Youri because our shower was leaking, presumably because of a cracked shower pan. The original plan was to re-do the shower only. However, we pulled up the carpet and discovered that the bathroom floor tile was in terrible condition and needed to be replaced. Once we were re-tiling the floor, we decided to replace the old vanity and ancient toilet, as well as remove the wall tiles and wallpaper and just paint the walls instead.
Youri gave us a price for the labor - materials were additional. (The amount that I wrote we paid for the work is labor only.)
The original estimate was just for the shower, but when we decided to remodel the rest of the bathroom, he created a new estimate for us, and that was what he charged - no more, no less.
Youri gave us specifications for the tile we should purchase, and we went to the store to choose it and buy it. We may have been better off going to the store with him, since some of the tile that we bought was different from what he recommended and he felt that he couldn't work with it. That was pretty much the only "bump" along the way in our communication/relationship.(I paid an additional $50 for him to go and purchase the parts we were then missing, but I felt it was well worth it.)
Youri had another worker finish the job of plastering, priming and painting the walls. At the end of the project, we were in a bit of a rush, and that may be why the plaster is not perfectly smooth beneath the paint.
Other than that, the job Youri did is really meticulous and high quality! His estimate of time for the job was right on too. He completed the project in a very timely manner. We are recommending him to all our friends.
