Unresponsive! Not communicative. Unreliable. Waste of time! Home warranty assigned this contractor who did do an initial evaluation, but has not responded to my at least 6 or 7 phone calls over 4 weeks' time to provide an estimate or a work schedule.
Response from METRO HEATING & COOLING
"Mr [Member Name Removed], You have mixed our company up with a similarly named company: Metro Heating and Cooling Pros. We have had issues with this company for years! I know that this is the issue because we do not work with Choice Home warranty at all and never have. I have tried to tell Choice Home Warranty of the issue also, and have gotten zero response. I'm sorry that you have had a bad experience, but it was not our company. Thank you, Cindi Metro Heating and Cooling, Inc"

We were incredibly impressed with Metro Heating and Cooling.  After doing a lot of research on the type of cooler we were interested in, and getting bids from 4 different companies we ended up going with Metro HVAC.  They are a top 5 rebate evaporative cooler rebate producer for Xcel, so they definitely have a lot of install experience.  I like how they specialize in evap coolers, and it's clear that Morris the owner knows them inside and out.

Morris took the time to visit my house (twice) to scope out the installation location and logistics, and worked very hard to verify that our tricky installation situation would work.  We have a home built in 1905, so needless to say there's a lot of tight spaces and weird stuff going on in our house that complicated things.  We worked together to determine an installation location which is discrete and not really very visible from either the front or back yard, and scoped out where the electrical and water lines would go so they would stay well-hidden.

In the end, Morris and his assistant Bobby completed the install in two days, as quoted, and got everything up and running.  They were very neat and cleaned up after themselves throughout the house.  We're very happy with our new unit.

In terms of price, we got four different quotes and Metro's was by far the lowest - 50% lower than the closest bid, actually.  Yes, that's right - their bid was literally 50% lower.  That's even before taking into account the fact that their bid includes a 1 year service contract which covers the first year start up and shut down, as well as next year's start up.  They also took the time to show me how to service the unit myself if I wanted (which I do) to save on having to re-hire a contractor every year to start up and shut down the unit.  The services also qualified for a $1200 rebate from Xcel, which was a really nice bonus.  Got the total cost of the job down to under $5k, which is exactly what was quoted on their website.  Nothing extra charged for framing, steep pitch roof, or any other extras that other companies were quoting me.

Only took one day. Left site well cleaned up. Gave very specific instructions on use. Filled out forms for rebate. Won't know how it works until Spring!

The swamp cooler start-up service listed above is an annual occurrence. I recently became a member of Angies List and was pleased to see Metro Heating and Cooling listed as a provider. I have been a customer of Metro since 2001, when they first started servicing my old swamp cooler. Metro installed a new cooler for me in 2002, and has been performing the spring and fall service ever since. Metro will be installing its replacement when the time comes. In February 2011, Metro replaced my old furnace with a York furnace.  In the 12 years I have been dealing with Metro, I have always received honest and professional service from Morris, and exceptional customer service from Cindy. I trust Morris because he has earned my trust. I know when Morris tells me something I can count on it. His estimates on the new swamp cooler and furnace were spot on, he took care of any permits needed, made sure the necessary electrical work was taken care of, and there were no surprises during installation. Cindy always returns my calls in a timely fashion - and their after hours answering service is also excellent. Morris is now training his son in the business, and I expect to continue to receive the same excellent service in the future. If you have a swamp cooler, air conditioner or furnace in your house, you need Metro Heating and Cooling. They cannot be beat.

We scheduled our evaporative cooler shutdown with Cindy during the summer. We requested a late-in-the-day time so that my husband could observe to do it himself in the future. Cindy told us she would try, although they do not work past 5.
Unfortunately, when the time came, we had to be away in the late afternoon and missed their being here - but they did come late in the day and did a nice job shutting everything off, just as agreed. The only flaw was that I wished we had had a confirmation call that they would be here late and maybe we could have made it here. Otherwise, nice reliable service from a busy company.

This is a general review of their services. They installed our Breeze-Air cooler and have maintained it ever since. In this family operation Cindy is a delight to talk with and Morris is a person I trust to do the work and then some. I'd recommend them any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Metro Heating & Cooling was one of three companies I contacted to get an estimate of a whole house Evap cooler installed. They were not the cheapest, but were not the most expensive by far. They ended up being a bit over my originally planned budget, but Morris explained all the options to me with pro's & con's of each, without pushing a higher priced unit on me.

They were the only company that took the time to explain everything in extreme detail. At first I thought it was over-kill, but after talking to other companies that didn't even mention the other services that would needed to install the Evap cooler, like the electric, and roofing, I was glad he spent all the time and when over everything with me in such detail.

Morris sat down and showed me all the different units they sold and serviced, including what the homeowner would need to to for upkeep (like needing to get up on the roof for maintenance for some models - something I would not personally do) and showing me the different models that had the options I wanted, like a thermostat.
During our estimate appointment, he took the time to measure where I originally wanted the vent, they checked out the roof to make sure it could go in that area, which it could not due to the location of the vent pipes on my roof. Explaining to me that the cooler needed to be so many feet away from any vent pipes to pass inspection (none of the other companies even mentioned this).

The day of the install, they were most of the way through with the install when a major thunderstorm hit,  It was getting late I expected them to pack it up and tell me they would come back on another day. But they stayed and waited out the storm until they could safely get back up on the roof and finish the install. Morris took the time during the storm to filled out the warranty paperwork and even the Xcel rebate form, so it was filled out correctly. He was one of the few companies that even mentioned the rebate.

Morris even pointed out there was an issue with two of my vent pipes not having the proper vent caps on them. I had an extra vent cap in my garage, they put that one on, and put on a proper vent cap on the other pipe for me. (I have had three different roofing companies out in the last couple of years and none of them even mentioned to me the issue with the vent caps.)

I highly recommend using Metro. When Morris meets you to go over coolers, he is very thorough, and you will know what to expect and you will not have any unexpected charges at the end of the job.

Morris gave us a very thorough quote, including going into the attic and up on the roof to check out our old system, which was an unconventional installation. We were really impressed that he came up with a plausible explanation for why we had such an unusual setup (that there might have been a commercial A/C system there once upon a time) and suggested installing a new evap cooler in a different location to be sure we were to code with the CO exhaust from our furnace/hot water heater. We were also pleased with his BreezAir experience and straightforward pricing on a good evap cooler system. Metro Heating & Cooling handled all the paperwork (down to providing the filled-out Xcel rebate form at the end), permits, electrician, etc., and everything went extremely smoothly. The only mixup was a little miscommunication about how much time they would need on day 2 -- but our job was essentially removing the old system, re-roofing and then doing a new installation, so it was quite complicated and we were not too surprised that it went a bit longer than expected. The workers were very conscientious and kept everything clean, and kept in good communication with us the whole time about what they were doing. They were very thorough explaining what we are buying, what we get with our purchase (including first-year shut-down and start-up), and have a website with even more information. We wound up paying more than we had originally hoped, but we understood why it cost what it did and ultimately we felt it was a fair price and a good experience.

Great doing business with them. This is a great "Mom and Pop" company to do business with. We had a half dozen AC contractors come out and Morris was the only one that wasn't blowing smoke. Between one of the shut down/ start up services I had installed a new hose valve on the outside of the house that was no longer compatible with the lines. They modified it no problem and free of charge. They actually didn't even mention it. Not to advertise for breeze air but their swamp coolers are really the way to go. We have $50 energy bills in July and August and our house is kept very cool.

I obtained 6 bids for the installation of a BreezeAir evaporative cooler. All bidders ranked "A" on Angies list or Tom Martino's website. Installed prices ranged from approximately $4000 to $7800. I went with Metro because they were (in my estimation as a Mechanical engineer) the best and most experienced and as a bonus the least expensive.

After this incredibly hot day, some of which was spent in the oven-like attic, Morris sat down and very patiently went over all the associated paperwork. He even had the document filled out to send to the electric company for a rebate. When the pump on our new cooler failed the next day, he was at our house within 30 minutes of calling and he immediately replaced the pump. While the technology failure was unfortunate, I feel the service was exceptional.

From the bid to the completion of the project, very professional. Morris and his guys were great. Great job cleaning up after and product is every ting advertised. Compared their prices to five others and they came in about the middle, but one of the few that included pulling a permit. Very professional and friendly. Highly recommend.

He left water in the lines when he was shutting off last winter. He told me that the swamp cooler had not been installed incorrectly and that he would charge me $600 to install it correctly. I had an inspector out and he said that was not correct - it was installed fine. I would not use him again.

THE TECHNICIAN CAME OUT ON TIME AS ADVERTISED. SHE WENT UP INTO THE ATTIC AND CLEANED OUT THE EVAPORATIVE COOLER. SHE CHECKED OUT THE PUMP AND RAN THE SYSTEM. IT WORKED MUCH BETTER AFTER IT WAS SERVICED.
