"K&K removed and replaced a 450 sq.ft. driveway with wire mesh in one day. We were even able to match the 2 neighboring paver walkways, so there were no trip hazards."
"We removed and replaced 500 sq.ft. driveway and 120 sq.ft. walkway in one day. We were able to move some projects around to accommodate this customer's schedule."
"We have provided services to South Adams County Fire Department since 2015 at various locations. Some of the fire houses were as small as 100 sq.ft.; some as large as 45,000 sq.ft. K&K is able to work with the engineers to meet their design requirements or pull permits for any work that went across the city property."
"K&K poured a 250 sq.ft. walkway with steps and a 550 sq.ft. back patio in 2021 for this customer's new house. Then we came back to perform work in the City of Aurora's Right of Way to help eleviate the builder's drainage issues. Since we are licensed and insured with the city, the home owner was able to apply for their rebate program to help with the costs."
"Another repeat customer! We performed work installing a 350 sq.ft. back patio in 2018. They have since purchased a house to rent out and we poured a new driveway and part of a back patio in 2023. Customer is a pleasure to work with."
"K&K replaced the customer's large driveway and walkway with a heated area (Electric system). The entire project took 2 days to complete a 1600 sq.ft. pour! Enjoy not having to shovel any more!"
"Repeat customer alert! Back in 2013, K&K replaced wooden timber walls with interlocking paver walls for their garden and driveway area. They since moved to a retirement community in 2023 where they needed a new driveway and a back patio. They are a delight to work with. See you at the horse races!"
"This work was performed 8/2013. We performed several projects for this customer since 2011 to include regular concrete, stamped concrete and asphalt. We actually became good friends over the years - even visiting each other's homes. We even snow plowed their personal property at no charge when they were in a bind. We are disappointed to see this review, especially since it is untrue. We reached out the home owner and he said he didn't submit this review and was trying to contact Angie's List to have this review removed. Angie's List (in our experience) doesn't care for both sides. They just let the 'system' generate the responses for the public. Our very first complaint was NOT even our customer, but they let it remain. Not sure how to respond to this review at this time..."
"First off, Angie's List doesn't notify the business of the complaint. Here is it over a year later and I just seen this complaint. If memory serves me correct, we did fix the crack in the walkway. Cracks within 60 days of a new pour are common in Colorado; called shrink cracks. She received a new driveway with a stamped border. That stamped border flows into the walkway which wraps around the house and continues to the back yard. Pictures of this project are on our website as it DID turn out beautifully. We would attach pictures of the final product, but Angie's List won't let us. I bit one-sided story."
"We removed and replaced almost 2000 sq.ft. of garage, driveway and walkways. There was a storm that was NOT predicted for the area that required us to re-pour the walkway (the garage floor was protected from the structure of the house.) We also installed a catch basin with drain under the driveway since the customer had issues of drainage in their back yard. We installed wire mesh for the walkways and rebar every 2' on center for the garage and driveway."
"We worked with the home owners over several weeks to ensure what they wanted was ideal for their situation. We have now bid the driveway and hope to do that project once the customer is able."
Their bid was accurate.
I expected to have to fix some of the landscaping since the drive size was increased by 2 feet. I have some cleanup to do. They were accommodating for changes while the project was underway. You should be present for a project this size as there is always things that come up.
There are a few minor details that could have been done a little better. Some of the joint lines are not perfectly straight and even. Some of the brush finish isn't even and has a different texture/color. This comes from brushing different sections at different points during the curing process.
In July of 2011, we hired K&K Construction to redo our driveway at our Littleton, CO reseidence. The work was completed during the period July 5-7, 2011 and the amount of $6500 was paid in full. The concrete began to show signs of defect as early as Oct 2011 and progessively deteriorated since then. Initially, K&K admitted that there was a problem with the concrete and repeatedly assured us that they would stand behind their product.
My experience with K&K is that they are much better at delaying and denying than they are at installing concrete driveways. All along they assured me that they would stand behind their work and I much to my discredit believed them. At some point they decided they were not going to fix the problem and instead created an excuse that the 'ice melt' from the streets caused the problems. They also pretended to run a 'core test' - presumably to show that there was not problem with the concrete quality.
The problems with the ice melt story are several fold including: 1. Problems with driveway began appearing as early as Oct 2011 and well before winter time, 2. The areas where concrete is in the worst shape is where the wheels of the car turn (right and left) - not where the wheels run straight or where the car sits in the driveway - presumably where ice melt would pool if it existed, and 3. How is it that our driveway couldn't survive one winter - one of the mildest winters on record - yet we're surrounded by neighbors whose driveways have survived intact not only this one mild winter but the previous 20 winters when the houses were built?
The mythical 'core test': We never received the core test results so I believe it's safe to assume that they were never done or the test results were not what they wanted to see. I highly doubt that it was ever done and that he came out that day (8/24/12) and just drilled a little hole himself to delay things rather than hire an objective licensed engineer as required. Still waiting to see that official report.
In my efforts to get this resolved, I have over 20 documented interactions including phone conversations and emails to/from K&K. I am happy to email this separately but several highlights are:
10/20/11: Initially reached out to K&K informing 'Dena Zerr' that there was a problem with the concrete. She said 'Kris Zerr' would follow up. He did not. Note - this is only 2-3 months after the job and well before winter.
4/27/12: Kris finally comes out to view faulty driveway and admits there is a problem and that they are trying to get the concrete company to pay for it. He says either way they will stand behind their product. Said Dena would call with to set a date to redo it.
5/22/12: After repeatedly reaching out to Dena she says that the redo date will be July 19-20. Additionally on this date, I emailed K&K with pictures of the deteriorating driveway.
7/12/12: Says redo scheduled for July 19-20 will have to be delayed as they want to do a 'core test'. States in email: 'We will still stand behind our work, but need to get this done'. I was naive at the time and actually believed her but looking back clearly this was just a delay tactic and any intection of them standing behind their work had vanished long ago...
8/23/12: Spoke to Kris as 'coring' has still not been done. He said he'd come out the next day to do it and also mentioned that the problem wasn't just us and that he had about $120,000 worth of business that was having problems with concrete from this supplier. He also said that the concrete company had gone out of business and that they switched to a new supplier with a better product -Martin Marietta. I have no idea if any of this is true just that this is what Kris told me.
8/24/12: Kris comes out and takes core sample himself. Oddly, he acts like the official core sample engineer was following behind in his car and just disappeared. So he takes it himself. Obviously, there never was an engineer with him.
There are many more interactions to report but bottom line was Kris & Dena Zerr never produced any sort of core test report. Instead, they have discontinued communications.
It is our family's objective that K&K re-do our driveway with proper concrete or refund us the $6500 paid for their faulty product. I am happy to speak live with anyone to discuss this - including staff at Angie's list, the BBB, K&K, the media and other folks who have had the misfortune to hire K&K. If we do not get a satisfactory resolution we will most certainly be moving forward with legal action. Feel free to reach out to me if you would like to connect and work together to hold K&K responsible.
"The spalling was only taking place on the front part of the driveway. If it was the mix, the walkway would show the same signs. As a courtesy to this customer, we replaced the front part of the driveway free of charge as agreed upon with the customer. Despite the replacement of concrete where the customer complained - they never updated their review."
Since this company is listed twice as K&K Construction and K & K Construction I will post my comment to both. Don?t even think about using this company, you will live to regret it!! Believe me, I am not the only one who has ripped off by K & K or AKA K&K Construction, please do your homework first and check out the horror stories on BBB (15 BBB Complaints against K&K and 8 of them in this past year alone!!) which they were accredited last year but the BBB has since stripped them of their ?Accredited Rating? for a very good reason. Angies List has numerous horror stories abut them as well.
I choose K&K Construction Inc. which was next to my highest cost estimate to replace my driveway and pour an RV driveway on 4-28-2011. Job cost was over $8000.00. I will list just a few of the problems I experienced with K&K Construction.
It took me years to save the more than $8000.00 needed for this project and in return I received:
1)A finished concrete job with a poor look that two other concrete experts have already determined is defective; 2) Incomplete work; 3) I was overcharged; 4) No honoring of the Workmanship Guarantee 5) Time and frustration writing emails and sending certified letters which got me nowhere; 6) Money spent on postal fees 7) A refusal by K&K of my written NUMEROUS requests to meet me at the job site post job completion to discuss problems; 8) Less than a year after the job was finished, 61 feet of cracks in the driveway and more cracks in the RV slab not in control lines and 9) As of date of this writing, I have been unable to get K&K to repair or replace anything or to pay me the $558.42 settlement they offered me.
1. The most serious of the problems I had with K&K is, there are very visible ?Large Bumps? sticking through the finished surface of the driveway. To the day of this writing more than a year later, K&K has refused to repair, or replace the driveway. They also have refused to pay me anything, zero in terms or a settlement.
2. K&K Never Finished the Dirt Work. I had to order in dirt and install myself.
3. K&K charged me for more concrete than was actually poured for the RV Drive.
I sent several certified and delivery confirmation letters to K&K explaining the cosmetic appearance of this defective driveway is unacceptable to me, not to mention it already has more than 61 feet of cracks and I wanted it repaired, or replaced which they refused. Also the opinions of my 3 concrete specialists that came to my house and looked at this driveway agreed workmanship was extremely poor and the size of the aggregate used was way too large!!
I stated in my letters to K&K, I would accept a settlement of 1/3 the cost of driveway concrete only $1116.83 which they also refused. They did offer me a refund of $558.42 on November 14, 2011 but then retracted it and reduced the offer to Zero.
Kris Zerr Owner of K&K Construction replied to me via email dated Dec. 1, 2011 and stated ?Your 1st plan to warn others about our company ? you better make sure that you don?t unlawfully slander us or we will have to seek compensation?. He ended it with ?You have your standard warranty and that is all we are willing to offer you at this time?.
K&K provided me a written Guarantee, which included a guarantee on their ?Workmanship? but in my experience with K&K Construction, has proven they will NOT honor their own Guarantee or help in any way to resolve, what is in my opinion a very ?Defective Driveway? with ?Workmanship? issues. It has now been more than a year since the job was done and K&K stands firm to not help in any way.
On August 17, 2012 I took K&K Construction to BBB Arbitration and I was asking for a settlement of $2630.34. This included a settlement for the ?Bumps? all over my defective driveway and also for reimbursement for the Rebar and wire mesh in both driveway and RV driveway due to Kris cut corners and failed to use ?Rebar Chairs? (which was in my work scope and Kris agreed in writing to use rebar chairs) so now all the rebar and wire mesh is laying flat on the dirt under the cement and not centered in the concrete, rendering it totally useless and waste of my $1645.00!!
The end result was the BBB arbitrator awarded me a whole $390.00 dollars instead of the $2630.34. A company which K&K advertises through called ?Service Magic? was forced to pay me a $500.00 Service Magic Guarantee. I received this from $500.00 from Service Magic (NOT K&K) as they agreed K&K delivered ?Defective Workmanship? It is now obvious to me the BBB favors the Business?s rather than the homeowner. I regret not taking K&K Construction to small claims court instead, as I feel certain I would have received a fairer ruling, and if you take someone to BBB arbitration you sign away your rights to peruse him later in court.
In my opinion, K&K approached my project focused solely on maximum profit and finishing as quickly as possible, leaving me with defective incomplete workmanship and a lot of money spent. I would hate to see even one more homeowner have the same experience as I did if they choose to hire K&K Construction.
I would never use K&K Construction or recommend them to anyone as long as I live. I am extremely unhappy and dissatisfied with the job. I have never been taken by any contractor for as much money as I have from K&K ever, and I have used a lot of contractors on my fixer up home in Arvada.
I?m sure owner of K&K Kris Zerr will post his very long response to this posting as he always does, and he will explain how his company did nothing wrong, and the job turned out perfect. Don?t you believe him for one second! I get to stare at my ?Defective Driveway? everyday now. I and the numerous other people would not take the time post comments against K&K if they were not true. The fact is, all the unfavorable comments you see on Angies List and BBB are just from those who took the time to post a comment, I would hate to think of how many other K&K victims there are that got ripped off like I did, but just did not take the time to post their story. In closing, if you read this and still use K&K, don?t ever say you were not warned!! See my posted picture as pictures don?t lie.
$8000.00 worth of ripped off, very unhappy Arvada homeowner.
"The project was performed per the contracted terms. The CUSTOMER asked to have the slope of the concrete greater than what is standard; against our recommendation. Since 'The customer is always right' we did as they asked, but asked them to sign a Release of Liability stating, "K&K Construction is not responsible for drainage, sealant and tint on stamped concrete patio/walkway due to customer's request to change the slope." They signed and dated the agreement, They also signed the project layout form."
"K&K Construction worked with this customer to create a new design for their front and back yard. The 3 car driveway was widened to a 4 car width. The rotting wooden deck was removed (along with horribly over-grown trees and shrubs) and in it's place we installed colored concrete patio and walkway with an Interlocking Paver border. K&K Construction worked with the customer over several months to make sure the colors they chose were exactly right for their vision."
