Second day, Wednesday, they worked from 10ish to 7:30 and were still not finished.
That second day, I woke up without any heat in my house. When they showed up, I complained about the heat issue and they called that in. There was dirt piled up against the side and around to the front of the boiler. Later in the day a HVAC man showed up and said there was a gas leak and that I needed a new part and would not have heat until it was replaced. Also it was not related to the work ARS was doing immediately adjacent. Funny, I thought, since the unit had been inspected in August and was reported to be in good working order. HVAC guy said he would be back first thing next morning, Thanksgiving, to replace the part - he didn't come back until Fri, so no heat for another day. Friday he replaced the part and left saying the boiler was up and running. It wasn't. I only had heat, and excessive heat at that, in one zone. Monday a different HVAC guy came out, it wasn't working when he left either. First guy came back on Tuesday and said two of the zone valves were bad and would be replaced for more $$$. Finally both HVAC guys showed up Wednesday, replaced the two zone valves, bled the lines that was not done after the baseboard heat registers were removed. After all that the boiler is working, but at an additional $500 to me.
Back to the plumbing, they worked on Friday and again on Monday to finish the original job. During this entire process ARS insisted no permit or inspection was required and none was performed. Several weeks later when the electrical inspector was here, he noted lack of, and need for, inspection for the plumbing. ARS representative still insisted no inspection was required. I had to go to building department and was issued a permit and inspection scheduled. ARS very reluctantly sent the lead plumber for the for the job to the inspection, or lack thereof. All the lines ad to be exposed, so concrete had to be reopened. There were leaks that had to be repaired. It took three trips, over three days, by the inspector to finally get a pass on the plumbing inspection, holding up progress on the job for five additional days.
i had an appointment for 12 pm - 2:00 on a Wednesday. At about 9:50, a woman called to say that they had a lot of emergencies and they couldn't come until sometime between 2:00 and 8:00 pm. I noted for her that every time in the past that I've had an appointment, they have called to tell me that they had a lot of emergencies and we're going to be late. She said they would come between 2:00 and 6:00.
At about 3:30, I called for an update. The woman I spoke with tried to verify that I needed a shower drain routed. I said no, I needed two faucets and a toilet handle fixed. She checked with dispatch and told me I was next on the list and someone would be there around 5:00.
The technician showed up at about 5:20. I had to ask him to wear shoe covers, which I thought was sop with this company. He also said he was there to clean out the shower drain. I corrected that assumption, showed him the items that needed to be repaired at which point he advised me that he had no parts with him. He said would write up an estimate and come back. He said leaky faucets usually needed new cartridges. He did no diagnostics at all. After sitting in his truck for another 20 minutes, he came back and said it took so long because the people in the office couldn't figure out what to charge me. Then he gave me a quote for over $700. To fix a broken toilet handle and two leaks. Seriously? I let him know I had the Home Service Plan with ARS which should give me a discount on parts and labor. After three more calls back to the office, he still could not get me a price with the discount because no one knew what the HSP discount was.
He he left me with an estimate for about $600. After quoting me $175 to replace a broken toilet handle, I repaired it myself for about $5. Another plumber I called let me know that my Delta faucet probably has a lifetime warranty. Delta is sending a replacement part at no charge.
This is was a fiasco of the highest order.
On July 15, the AC shut off and would not come back on. Called for service and they were going to put me off till Saturday when I called corporate. A repairman showed up around 5pm and found the problem that the installers left bare wires in the furnace where they connected the AC. The wires were burnt and for the sake of a few wire nuts none of this would have happened.
