We highly recommend Tom with Hairy Yeti Construction. With our upcoming remodel started in March of 2013, we did extensive research and had multiple contractors come to the house to give us an estimate. One of our limitations that most of the other contractors were unable or unwilling to entertain was the fact that we wanted to be active participants in our remodel. Understandably, most are uncomfortable with this – not knowing the skill level or abilities of the homeowner. Tom agreed to our request with the understanding that if he felt certain portions of the remodel needed to be completed solely by him and his team, or he felt the quality was suffering, he would make this clear. WE remodeled our kitchen and adjoining room and bathroom. Our remodel of our 1972 built home consisted of reframing load=bearing walls to open the space, leveling floors, plumbing, lighting, electric, insulation, drywall, and tile flooring. Each of the members of Tom’s team that came to our home was respectful, knowledgeable, and left a clean space each day they left (much appreciated since we were still living in the home). Tom himself was honest, straightforward, focused on customer service and satisfaction, and is clearly knowledgeable in this trade. Tom communicated quickly when plans had to change due to unexpected issues and worked closely with us to find an acceptable solution. He also became a favorite of our two black labs and was tolerant of their need to actively participate in the process! There have been no issues, almost a year later, with any of the work completed by Tom and his team. We are happy with the quality service we have received and enjoy the end product that much more as we were able to be an active part of the remodel.
I suspected I had damage to my roof after a recent hail storm. I didn’t know who to call so I contacted Tom of Hairy Yeti Construction, (since it was his company that originally built my home), and I thought maybe he could recommend someone. Well to my surprise, Hairy Yeti does roofing too! Is there anything these guys can’t do??
Dave and Tom showed up the next day, they confirmed that my roof was damaged and helped me take the next steps in filing for an insurance claim. After receiving the insurance adjuster’s report I contacted Hairy Yeti again. Dave came over and helped me through the complete process of getting my roof replaced. After pointing out several mistakes and missed items on the initial insurance estimate, he was instrumental in communicating with the insurance company to get all those items and mistakes - included and corrected. I was completely happy with the crew’s professionalism and was totally amazed that the crew was finished in just two days! They left my roof and yard spotless…even cleaned out my gutters! I would have never even know they were there, except for the constant banging on my roof!! Price of progress, I suppose…
I would absolutely recommend Hairy Yeti in anything involving construction…including the roof.
Tom has spent allot of time to make sure all of the subs and his crew built to the expectation of the customer.
The end result is an addition that did not look like and addition.
He started by helping with final design selection of the cabinets (from Home Depot -- and we rightly chose to get our own installer rather than depend on HD to provide). In this process, he gave us a couple of tips on the design that really helped out and gave our kitchen a custom design look/feel. Plus, his knowledge of remodeling and kitchen cabinets was crucial in getting our parts order right with Home Depot.
With the demolition, we knew there would be problems due to age of house. Tom carefully worked through all of those issues as we redid electrical wiring and new lighting for the kitchen (can lights in ceiling, undercounter lights for cabinets, etc.). He was meticulous in assuring walls were built back to square with durawall, plaster and feathering in preparation for new cabinets. Once installed, he received compliments from the countertop installer regarding leveling across all lower cabinets. And during installation of the upper cabinets, he identified cabinet production flaws that we took back to HD to remedy. (I doubt a HD installer would have spotted, or would have tried to finagle if pointed out.) He interfaced his work with other contractors easily (including electrical, marble countertop, tile backsplash, wood floor refinishing, etc.), almost acting as a general contractor in terms of coordinating work flow and scheduling.
During all this work, there were several difficult situations that arose which Tom handled with upmost professionalism. His knowledge of the building crafts and associated trades came into play repeatedly. He did plumbing, electrical work, rough-in carpentry, detailed finish work. He made numerous trips into the attic, crawled into cramped spaces under sinks, figured out the many puzzles presented by our house. Lastly, because of the care of his workmanship and his work ethic, we had Tom work on other projects around our house -- crown molding installed the master bedroom, new utility sink installed in basement, new bathroom sink and countertop.
Tom was also patient with me as I occasionally helped with some of the grunt work. He's a capable teacher as well, sharing tips on painting, drywall work, plumbing, etc. Although my efforts to "lend a hand" may not have saved a lot of money, it did keep me aware of all the work, toil, effort and thought that Tom was putting into this project.
The outcome? Superb! We have a beautiful new kitchen, thanks to Tom's detailed craftsmanship. I recommend him with absolutely no reservations.
I hired Tom Allen of Hairy Yeti Construction to design and build my custom home in Arvada. I saw several homes that he had built in Breckenridge and I wanted a log accented home of my own. Since this was my first endeavor on such a monumental project, I relied on Tom's expertise to help me with the many decisions that had to be made. From start to finish he was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He kept my project on budget and I was totally satisfied with his and his crews' workmanship. I've had many compliments on my home and am proud to "show it off".
I have and will recommend Hairy Yeti Construction again and again.
